My Take on the MOTHER Protagonists (and Claus)

Ninten

◇ Confident, brave, optimist

◇ Loves reading superhero comics. Superman is his idol and he styles his hair like him

◇ Wears his bandana like a cape

◇ Always tries looking for adventures to go on and people to help. Rescues cats from trees, helps lost kids find their parents etc.

◇ Often annoys people mistakenly

◇ Gets bullied for sure but most of the time doesn't even realize it

◇ Raises his hand in class all the time, just to go on rambles about what the lesson reminds him of (most of the time it's barely related)

◇ Total sweetheart

◇ Sounds like Fanboy from Fanboy and Chum Chum. Sorry.

Ness

☆ Energetic, chatty, kind of a geek when it comes to video games and comics but those interests fade later on as they just remind him of a certain someone he used to play and read them with

☆ He's kind of cocky and also EASILY sasses people back if they're mean to him or banter with him

☆ Struggles paying attention in school, doodles on his work sheets

☆ Not an artist per se, but he finds it fun sometimes. It's his favourite subject but he messes around a bit too much for the teacher's liking, who wants him to take the class more seriously

☆ Ninten is HIS idol ever since he heard about him in the news, ever since then he's been dressing like him

☆ Paula is his best friend ever. Whether he has feelings for her or not depends on my mood, but either way the two of them don't mind being mistaken as a couple that much and often play along with it because they find it funny, acting like a stereotypical married couple

☆ Implied in canon, but he feels bad for everyone he defeated, and everyone he lost

Lucas

♡ Sullen looking all the time, sleepy ALMOST all the time, always clinging to his mom, and if not his mom, Boney, and if not Boney, a drago or a sheep.

♡ Flint used to give him piggybacks all the time on walks since Lucas's legs would get tired and he'd complain. Sometimes Claus would want to join in too, and Flint would carry them BOTH on his back.

♡ Climbs Duster

♡ Most of the time when Hinawa would tell him jokes, he wouldn't get them and needed them explained

♡ Uncoordinated, trips often and struggles to draw and write

♡ Loves animals, spends a lot of his time with them. At home he's often cradling a lamb

♡ He feels guilty that he's the one who's left for Flint to deal with, not Claus. Claus wasn't picky, was brave and smart, was talented and didn't screw up and cry all the time like Lucas

(NOTE: ): we love you Lucas, and so does Flint even though he fails you)

♡ His relationship with Flint has been damaged, and while it's slowly repairing over time, it will take a while.

♡ Pre timeskip he would cry and sleep all the time after Hinawa died and Claus disappeared, post timeskip he becomes more emotionally numb and a little sassy

♡ Kumatora reminds him a bit of someone

Claus

♡ He was happy-go-lucky, quite a rascal, often injured himself (similarly to Lucas), very social and imaginative

♡ He would often go up to random people and start conversations

♡ Looked up to his dad, also Lighter a little

♡ Other than Lucas, Fuel is his best friend

♡ Claus loved to pull silly little pranks on Flint. He sometimes tried to prank Hinawa, but she would always see it coming (NOTE: this is because she's a goober herself, and, in fact, would often play lighthearted pranks on the twins too)

♡ He would smile almost constantly

♡ When he found out what happened to Hinawa, he decided now it's time for him to finally be a hero.

♤ After he was found and re-constructed, his heart was very intentionally removed

♤ He's very violent, and hates every single second of living - constantly suffering physically and mentally

♤ One pigmask tried to make Claus smile. He had to get surgery after

♤ For some reason, when he sees sunflowers he gets especially angry. He'll destroy any in sight

♤ He can FEEL that there's a gap in his memory. Sometimes, he gets these random memories that he doesn't understand, which makes him even more frustrated

♤ He despises Porky and Fassad

♤ He would've killed Lucas if Hinawa didn't stop him

♤ When he regains his memories, he hates himself

He wanted to be the hero, but to him, he became the villain.

Hey, I'm Abel, or Psionyxx! (He/him)

If you look at my blog, you'll probably see that I'm a huge MOTHER fan! It takes over like 90% of my brain XD. MOTHER 3 is my favourite game in the series (as well as my fave peice of media ^^), but you'll catch me posting about Earthbound a lot too. Oh, and I also love the MOTHER 2 manga!!!

If you asked me my favourite part about the series, I'd say both the wakcy humour and the tearjerking tragedy, especially how they mix together. I also love the humanity in every character (even aliens who are the embodiment of evil :P)

I also have other milder interests such as Undertale, mascot horror, TADC, and hyenas! I can't promise I'll post about these a lot, but I'm always up to talk about them :>

haklskldjlakjd i'm bored and hopped up on sugar and listening to music on loop, let's look at old art

i have no idea when this is from, probably nearly 10 years ago... 1,000 years, or even 10,000 years... long before i got into earthbound, but i'd had a passing interest in porky ever since i'd met him in brawl, so he'd occasionally wriggle his way into my doodles if only little emily knew... one thing i do remember about my absolute oldest porky doodles (before even this one...) was me completely misremembering what the picture of his model i'd seen looked like, and for some reason imagined him with a big, birdo-like snout

i devised my basic idea for giygas pretty quickly after playing m1, this is actually the first mother pic in my camera roll i've streamlined and solidified his design a lot since then, but he's kept all the details i first designed him with took me a while to get a consistent headshape for him though, and his length was also wildly inconsistent (even now i'm pretty bad about it...)

i never know what to do with his tail so sometimes i'll just have him wrap it around himself that's a fun character quirk actually

i've thought about giving in and drawing him with ears like everybody else but then i'd miss out on him wrapping his tentacles around them, and i'm not giving that up for the world early on i tended to imagine him with red swirly eyes when he was A. using PSI or B. having a mental breakdown, i haven't really brought that back but i still find it fun i'm not sure if i envisioned him as totally pathetic from the very beginning but i was definitely at that point by this drawing

all these porkies are from one page, probably on the same day some of my earliest earthbound experiments this might've been my first porky after officially getting into earthbound, and it precedes the giygases too it was gonna be a full family photo, though i gave up before drawing his parents (i've returned to the idea so many times though) porky's design took so much refining, and i hadn't quite figured out my mother style at this point

idea at the time was that porky's starts getting all corpse-like as he falls further into giygas's control (i think this is a pretty common headcanon for why he looks like that in the final battle) so in fourside he loses his blush, starts to look a little sunken, and then in the final battle he's super creepy looking eh about it these days, to me now he just gets blue and it clears up after giygas's defeat

and the final one from this group, his appearance in m3 drawn completely without reference so i totally misremembered his design not that reference helped, since i have struggled so, so hard to find a way of drawing him that i liked...

like 2023 probably

all of my early m1 digital art is really bad and embarrassing, but this one's sort of cute so i'm fine with showing it my idea of ninten took a bit to come up with, and a bit for me to actually draw him well, but after figuring it out i decided to try my hand at digital art, and this was one of my first ones god i definitely need to do more m1 stuff, i love the party so much...

a bit later 2023

this was one of the first drawings i posted on the blog! it's still not terrible, though i've definitely come a long way since then it's a pretty good showcase of how my porky design has changed over time i got rid of the square-edged bowlcut from the pencil drawings pretty quickly in favour of spikier edges, which are still basically what i draw him with now i made his nose more triangular, gave him nostrils, and overall found a more-cartoony style this one also has some things that i've since moved away from, too the early pencil-porkies had this sort of mullet thing in the back, which developed into the lower points of his hair here eventually i decided to just cut those off, which i like a lot more i simplified his overall straps since the ones on his model are really annoying to get right and i think the biggest thing is his smile, i was never really satisfied with it and kept trying new things, until eventually i settled on the big toothy :3 grin you can see in most of my porky pictures

mid-late 2023

old porky has gone through so many changes, it took so long to figure out a design i was satisfied with and even now i tweak him every time i draw him i drew this so i would have something cool and creepy to show people when explaining the big porky reveal to them, but even at the time i didn't like how i drew him carrying off of the mullet he always had in my earlier stuff, i tended to give old!porky sort of long-ish, lank hair, but i was never happy with it one thing that's been consistent throughout all his different iterations is him having different teeth from his younger self, since he canonically wears dentures

this was earlier i think, and drawn in class using a reference i was actually way happier with porky here than in my other, more serious attempt, which added to my annoyance with that one even so, i wanted to find something better than this early 2024

these were more recent attempts to come up with a satisfying design, specifically because me and my brother were approaching the end of mother 3 together and i wanted some cool porky art to show him (sadly i did not prepare anything in time...) my biggest hangup was with his mustache, so i experimented with a couple alternatives, like the one on the right, which didn't pan out my main goal was to find something that looks kinda like his hair in his sprite while also evoking his younger self's hair early on i imagined him with a couple hairs on his chin as a reference to the three little pigs, which you can also see in the last two if you look close i put more emphasis on it in this one, and gave him some more stubble to try and make him look a bit less youthful i thought i'd settled on his design with this iteration, but then i continued to change it up... my current design has a couple traces with it, but it's mostly its own thing now... who knows if i'll change it again...

mid-2023-probably

this was a drawing of one of the flying men i started but never finished seated around a campfire one night in magicant, playing a song for ninten and his friends i still really like this actually, it's too bad i never finished it i love the flying men and their old m1 design so much, they're so silly but so sad...

so yeah! bunch of old art, helps show how my stuff has developed over time, where my designs have been tweaked or outright redone from scratch, etc fun to look back on, it sure has been a while since those first drawings, huh
