My preferred method of writing historical fiction is what im gonna call "total integration", which avoids, as much as possible, any lore dumping in the text. I see the appeal of lore dumping for maybe really detailed artworks or obscure jokes, but even then its easy to mistake heta fandom work for an attempt at historical education outreach (which is often misplaced bcs no one should trust a random person on the internet to tell the truth).

Total integration writing is difficult because the writer has to slip in enough details in the right places so that the reader has what they need to keep up, while trusting that said reader will do their own work to fill in any educational/research gaps to understand the scene more fully. I think this tends to be avoided in fanfic because of the waves of readers who dont actually give a shit and only want to pick around for things to criticize, but babying people like that only gives them more power to harrass writers (and artists).

Im really just suggesting that the historical hetalia subfandom *not* mistake meta analysis and historical nonfiction/educational outreach for fiction writing. My selfish reason is im already having fun reading and researching the topics, for hetalia stuff i just want a good, grounded story.
