“That is a recipe for disaster.” Lily moaned as she shook her head. “Marlene and Black. Both of them are hot headed and…wait a minute.” She frowns as she thought of something else. She looks back at James. “If they actually were…you know together, why would they sneak around their friends? Black i can kinda get but Marls?” In her mind Lily was already planning a girls night with just them two. She needed answers though and she was just as confused as James.
And speaking of Potter, she grinned a little bit as she looked away once he wrinkled his nose again. “Potter if you keep on wrinkling your nose I’ll hex it off.” She light heartedly threatened. And stop being cute when you do that, she added mentally. She didn’t dare say that outloud. Merlin only knew what his reaction would be if she did. This was the boy who had taken to constantly asking her out in lavish ways. Even going so far as to unleash live doves in McGonagall’s classroom one time. The livid look on the professor’s face made it worth it.
Lily grimances. “You know regardless he’ll share the gory details with you right?” The red head asked him wearily. “I mean it IS Black after all.” She listened to his words and she smiled. “Marls is like a sister to me. And don’t get me started on Black.” She warns him. Her eyes then went wide. “Mary? Our Mary? Oh my lord. Don’t put that thought in my head Potter. For the love of Merlin. I wanted to murder Mulciber for what he had done to her.” Her eyes flashed like cold stones at the memory.
“Hot chocolate?” She grins. “As long as it has whipped cream and chocolate syrup on it count me in. Let’s go Potter.” She ordered. A group of students had stopped to stare at them, opened mouthed. Lily Evans and James Potter were talking and actually getting along!? They weren’t yelling at each other? They whispered to each other before rushing off.
James was trying his best not to think about Sirius and Marlene, which the look on his face reflected. And he proceeded to shake his head, “I duno, she always seemed to be wise to his tricks that normally work on other girls...” Trailing off in mid sentence as, despite himself, he was still thinking about it.. “...Actually, I guess it would make some sense?..” He didn’t want to say it aloud, because he didn’t know if Lily knew, but Remus had voiced the fact that he had a bit of a thing for Mary, and James.... well he liked to pretend he hadn’t noticed the red head infront of him, but that was a slight lie, and he was pretty sure she knew that too. And that would leave Pete, Marlene, Sirius and Dorcas out of their little group. Clearing his throat, he could feel his features blush slightly. “....I just mean because we all hang out together alot, and actually they have always seemed to get on well...” Looking away for a moment, almost as if to stop himself carrying on speaking.
Raising a hand to his own face, he rubbed his nose and smirked. “Please don’t, i’m somewhat attached to it.” A soft laughter accompanied his words. “Sirius tells me most things, whether i want to hear them or not....” He laughed again, bringing his gaze back to Lily, though the smile on his face was short lived, when he thought about Mary’s encounters with Mulicber over the years. “He’ll get whats coming to him one day.” James said quietly.
He was only somewhat aware of others around him, whenever Lily was around, she managed to effortlessly hold his full attention. “okay deal.” He said light heartedly. “I don’t think anywhere does it better than honeydukes, plus I could use a trip there to stock up.” His full smile had now returned to his face, and chose to not think about how this had to have been one of, if not, the first time they were fully alone together without someone from their group of friends.

“Black and Marlene?” The redhead asked, confused. “Are you suggesting that the two of them are….” She let her voice trail off. Her eyes widen in slight shock at the thought. Oh she was gonna have to talk to Marlene when they got back to the castle. Then again the blonde always told her everything whether or not she wanted to know. She folded her arms across her chest and she gazed at him. She tapped her foot, quiet for a minute or two. “You do realize that we are going to have to ambush them to get them to talk to us right?” She asked slyly.
Her eyes gleamed like cold stones. “You’ll never know.” She answered with a frown, puzzled now. “Unless they want to keep it a secret. In which I wouldn’t blame them but with Black’s track records of girls? I’m just lucky he hasn’t made a move on Dorcas yet. Otherwise my fists would have made contact with his nose.” She commented amused now. And perhaps a bit of a threatening tone. “You might want to tell him that when you see him next Potter.” She noted with a satisifed nod.
She had watched him when he wrinkled his nose and she had to hide a smile. Her eyes twinkled friendly. He did look cute when he wrinkled that nose. And….then….wait a minute? Since when did she thought of him as cute? Lily sighed as she nodded. “Far from me to waste a perfectly good trip to Hogsmeade. I do need to stock up on sweets at Honeydukes though. My pile of sweets got inhaled this past summer.” She smiled.
“Oh bloody hell, I hope not.” He wrinkled his nose again, though he was more playful in doing so this time. Honestly, he would hardly put it past Sirius, almost all the girls in their year had either had the misfortune of being chased by the guy, or even worse, they had chased him. But Marlene.... James supposed for a moment that actually, that would make alot of sense. A smile played on James’s lips and he nodded in agreement, “Absolutely, but if we’re right, I really don’t want to know the gory details...” As he trailed off a soft laugh fell easily from his mouth. “I mean Sirius is the brother I never asked for, and Marlene is like family too, so yeah, i really don’t need to know.”
Laughing again, James shook his head, “I don’t think he’s bold enough to try it on with Dorcas, to be honest, I thought he had a thing for Mary back in fourth year, but then again...” James shrugged. “....Actually I don’t wanna know, i mean I do want to know if he and Marlene are a thing, buts all I wanna know.”
The smile on James’s lips grew, he would never pass up on visiting Honeydukes. His own stash had lessened significantly over the past week because of Remus sneaking into the dorm and munching the vast majority of chocolate. All the tosser left behind were the Wizard cards. “Yeah that sounds good to me, I really need to buy some more chocolate frogs...actually speaking of chocolate, some hot chocolate wouldn’t go a miss right now.”

thegryffindorprincesss:
She had been supposed to be meeting Marlene here for a girls day out. Their other friends had been busy with either homework or just didn’t want to go. She never did pass up the opportunity to stock up on her sweets. Especially chocolate frogs and sugar quills. She might have had a slight addiction to the latter however. Of course whenever either Marlene or Dorcas would see her sucking on the end they would always have to throw out some innuendo that would make her face as bright as her hair.
Her hair hanging down in soft waves she made her way to the Three Broomsticks, humming an old song she had heard on the radio this past summer. She sighed as she thought back to her family. Her mind already working with plans to protect them this summer. Although she won’t tell no one until later on, she was already working on a way to leave the muggle world for good. She didn’t want her family to get caught up in the upcoming war with Voldemort.
Lily blinked as she looked up from her thoughts and saw James. A look of confusion on her face. Wasn’t Sirius with him? “She said she was going to be here. Unless she is off snogging some boy she just met.” She answered for him with a tilt of her head. Emerald green eyes blinking. “Weren’t you with Black, Potter?”
The pit in James’ stomach had grown significantly within mere seconds, as it settled in that they were definitely alone. Oh, I’m gonna kill that tosser, he thought to himself. It was just like Sirius to land James in these situations. Obviously it wasn’t that James didn’t want to be around Lily, it was just so much easier when they were in a group, easier for him not to look an absolute goof.
James’ brow furrowed for a moment at Lily’s words, only because he was fairly certain that was exactly what Sirius was doing... off snogging someone. “He ditched us to ‘study’......Wait you don’t think that they’re....?” His words trailed off because he didn’t want to finish the sentence. Wait, was that a thing? Surely Sirius would have mentioned something if it was Marlene. Wrinkling his nose playfully for a second, he shook his head. “Nah surely not.”
Eyeing the three broomsticks just behind Lily, James let out a sigh, “Well, we’re here now right?”

It had been afew weeks since James had some down time, between Quidditch practise, studying and making sure his friends didn’t die of boredom, he had a pretty full schedule. Though, afew of them had agreed to spend the day in Hogsmeade, minus one already because Sirius had decided to stay behind at Hogwarts... James had a sneaking suspicion that his best friend was hiding something, but he had decided not to press the subject, at least not just now. Pads did have a really bad habit of flaking at the last moment, and the reason would usually turn out to be of the girl variety.....James just didn’t know who this time, though he made a mental note to grill him about it later.... He briefly wondered if it would be considered unethical as a best mate to slip Sirius some truth serum.
As he neared the Three Broomsticks, the sign becoming clearer as he rounded the bend, he thought he could just about make out Lily. Her red hair standing out against the frosty Scottish backdrop. It wasn’t necessarily that James didn’t want to see her, but he always felt something similar to anxiety whenever he was within a close proximity to her, and he almost always managed to make an absolute knob out of himself in front of her. The pit in his stomach grew wider however, when the closer he got, the more he realised that she too was on her own. Wasn’t Marlene meant to be coming along? Or was it Mary? It was definitely meant to be one of them... Oh no, Lily was without question standing there by herself, and worse still, she had already seemed to notice James, because she had a similar look of confusion on her face as she saw him walking alone.
Clearing his throat, as he did his best to appear unbothered by the situation. “Wasn’t Marlene meant to be coming too?”
