SEMI-HIATUS
Hello peeps, with quite a bit of sadness I have to inform you all that I will be on hiatus. I will be in rehab for a bad back and otherwise quite busy with physical therapies in the coming months and I generally noticed sitting in front of a screen for prolonged periods of time isn’t a thing I can do right now. I’m fine though, things should go according to plan.
In any way sadly this means I will discontinue all of my tumblr rps.
RPs on google docs are not affected.
Thank you for staying with me and making my experience here a joy. I love you lots and hopefully I will return to rp at a later time in better health. In the meantime I will be lurking, maybe answering an ask here and there.
I still have these accounts where you can contact me:

I want to stress that it's indeed the most likely (and sad) version of events that Ardyn said the very truths. Ignis and Talcott are very clear on the few historic writings they found still mentioning Ardyn the healer and about how he was cast out or even killed, depending on the language version, under very dubious charges.
What I personally think happened is that the crystal denied Ardyn his ascension. The religious people of Lucis back then and especially Somnus had to see it as word of god that Ardyn was tainted, unfit to rule and therefor potentially dangerous. To them it must have looked like god branding him on mind with the devil.
I think it's very likely that Somnus had been jealous of Ardyn before as well seeing how Ardyn was a very popular figure, loved by the people and of course the king to be. Somnus must have been in his shadow from a young age apparently having no healing powers and not the kind of influence that made Ardyn so well liked. There is a painting of Ardyn leading a procession through masses of cheering people, but what are the records of Somnus' achievements? All of what Somnus is known for was just what he achieved as king after Ardyn was gone. It must have been tough having an elder brother so popular.
Given that everything Ardyn said was true, I'm going to say it is unlikely he should lie on one minor fact. The tragic of Ardyn is, that he was never wrong. That he was a good man, possibly still would be if he could, but that's not what he was given in life. When the crystal rejected him it was Somnus chance to step out of his shadow and we don't know, maybe he even thought Ardyn was that much of a danger that he needed to protect the people of Lucis from him, so Ardyn was marked a black sheep before he had even done any wrong and executed (the German version is clear on that).
Whether this execution was just for show so people would think him gone or they actually tried to kill him we don't know, in any way we know Ardyn recovers from anything, so... the whole thing is just very traumatizing to Ardyn, that's for sure.
Ardyn and Somnus - Where is the truth?
[FFXV Royal Edition spoilers]
It was recently revealed that Ardyn’s little brother was the Mystic King and that his name was Somnus Lucis Caelum. In the game, it is said that he was “a noble king” and, after he is defeated by Noctis and the boys, he begs Noctis to “free [his] brother (Ardyn) from his curse”.
But how could this “noble king”, who seemingly cares for Ardyn and wishes to see him at peace, be the monster we assumed he was after hearing Ardyn’s version of the story?
What we already knew about Ardyn:
According to Ardyn, his true name is Ardyn Lucis Caelum, implying that he is part of the Lucian bloodline. Before the Crystal, he tells Noctis the tale of the man who could cure those afflicted by the Starscourge by absorbing the daemons into himself. Despite this, the man was demonized and ostracized by a “jealous king” who made a monster of him. This man, of course, is Ardyn. He also explains that he wants Noctis to claim the Crystal’s power so that Ardyn can kill him as the True King. In Episode Ignis, Ardyn gives new information: it was his (younger) brother who became king in his place, betrayed him and cast him into exile. And at the end of the game, Ardyn asks Noctis if he will erase him from history “once more”.
Talcott, Bahamut, the bestiary and the Mysterious Voice coming from the Crystal in Episode Ignis all confirm this, minus the fact that it was Ardyn’s own family, his brother, who decided to banish him. We didn’t know if this part was true.
What we can learn in the new update:
According to his newly added dossier, Ardyn should have become the first king of Lucis. He had the power to heal those afflicted by the Starscourge and could do so by absorbing the parasites into his own body. The French translation adds that he was a “good and altruistic man”. While his actions saved countless lives, they also made him immortal and corrupted his body. The Crystal thus deemed him unworthy of the throne and Ardyn was cast into exile, rejected by everybody and condemned (“attacked”, even, according to German version) by his own family. Here, the French version also adds that he was erased from history. Because of this, Ardyn now wants to get revenge on the Lucian bloodline, the Royal family (his own family) personified by Noctis, the Chosen King.
As you can see, the story told by Ardyn and the story told by his dossier are identical.
One could have reasonably believed that what Ardyn said, from his subjective and hate-filled point of view, was biased and untrue. But the dossier, a 100% accurate and objective source of information, confirms everything he has told so far. It also confirms, at last, that Ardyn was banished by his own family.
Noctis’ family.
A little detail Bahamut “forgot” to mention but that finally clarifies Ardyn’s wish to get revenge on the Lucian bloodline.
What about Somnus, then?
In the bestiary (the English version, at least, since I couldn’t find the original Japanese text), an objective source of information, it is said that Somnus “is revered for having brought together his people under one banner” but that “one man was excluded from this unity: the king’s older brother, Ardyn Lucis Caelum”. So he was good to his subjects, but probably not to his own brother.
The mention of him being a “noble king” is found in a text written on a monument in Insomnia, so it is supposed to have been written by a character from the game. Thus, it can’t be considered to be the absolute truth. It is subjective information.
And even if was he a “noble king”, it doesn’t mean he was a noble man. I don’t think all Lucians would call Regis a noble king, yet we all know he was a noble man.
But, who knows? Maybe Somnus actually never wanted to banish Ardyn. Maybe Ardyn thinking he was “jealous” is just a sad misunderstanding. Maybe he truly loved his brother but, as the new king, was forced to ostracize him because the Crystal said he was impure. Maybe he willingly cast his brother into exile but now sincerely regrets it and wants his suffering to end. Or maybe Somnus just wants Ardyn dead once and for all and “free my brother from his curse” was just a nicer, more kingly way to put it.
Even though we know Ardyn was indeed rejected by his own family, and by his little brother in particular, we are still unsure of Somnus’ true intentions.
But before we can (possibly) forgive Somnus and see him as a “noble king” and a noble man, remember this:
Minus the “jealous king" part, so far, everything Ardyn has ever said about his backstory has been confirmed.
Everything was true.
Everything.
So unless Episode Ardyn tells me otherwise, I will continue to believe Ardyn, and that Somnus was the bad guy in his story.
