i knew that the final frontier was supposed to be the mcspirkest tos movie but none of the posts i saw adequately prepared me for just how MCSPIRK it was. bones prevented himself from being brainwashed simply because he wasn't going to leave jim and spock alone together. they went camping together. jim called them both his family

Watching Star Trek V for the first time the other day was such a wild ride from start to finish, but the main takeaway I’m left with was during that early campfire scene, Jim and Bones were absolutely steamed while trying to explain Row Row Row Your Boat to a very sober Spock.

And knowing what we know about Vulcan physiology and their resistance to alcohol, but their weakness to things like chocolate (due less in part to the cocoa content, but more largely because of the SUGAR…) well, it made the subsequent scene even funnier to me where Spock out of nowhere starts dissecting the song, sounding absolutely baked out of his gd mind 💀

“Captain…”

“Spock, we’re on leave, you can call me Jim :3”

“…Jim.”

“Yes, Spock? :3”

“Life is… not a dream… @_@”

“Go to sleep, Spock >_>”

(Don’t even start me on him doing his camping research, knowing he’d be bringing along a food substance that’d get him essentially drunk, and being absolutely fine with that. Poor man just wanted to try relaxing for once and join in with his favourite people 🥺💕)

But also McCoy losing his shit and having absolutely no patience with Spock followed by:

“Oh, I am sorry, doctor… Were we having a good time..? >_>”

Spock died, Came Back Wrong™, and he’s still burning you alive, Bones. Face it - after all that, he’s still the same guy lmaoooo

You ever think about how Bones is the most passionate, loving character in the series and that he’s not afraid of dishing out aggressive love, that sort of, “you’re going to take care of yourself or so help me God—“ kind of love, and yet he’s afraid of intimacy?? He gives so much and loves so fiercely but is afraid to be loved because of the inherent vulnerability involved. And I truly think that Bones so easily values all life above his own not only because he’s such a committed doctor, but also because he has self-worth issues.
