Looking up at him she smiled softly and leaned into him a little. “Well your place runs the risk of your wife or daughter finding us so the last two options may be the best option for us.” She explained. “You choose, handsome.”

“It’s rather amusing that you mention them, while deciding to go with me anyways.” Christopher eyed her up quickly, smirked deviously. He helped her in the back of the car, closed the door before he told the chauffeur to drive them to the Ritz-Carlton in Boston. He get inside the car as well to this moment, let his hand rest on her thigh, caressing it gently.

“I find it rather ironic that two minutes ago you just made a comment about how I’m an adult so you’re not saying anything and yet now, you’re saying you are. Can’t you make up your mind?” she asked him as she picked at her yogurt and granola. “I’m doing just fine, dad. You don’t need to worry about anything.” Adeline said as she jumped off the counter to grab her books and brooch. “Of course.”  

Christopher sighed deeply. She was correct, but this one, besides what he lectured at the university or did in the hospital..it was something he can’t explain fully. “You will understand that kind of a dilemma once you have your own child. As much I want you to be an adult and make your own choices. You’re still my child and we’re a team.” He shrugged. “Alright?” He took another sip of his coffee, till it was empty and poured in a new one. “Where are you going now?”

“Naturally any big change requires consideration and planning. However I think you’re doing a pretty great job with the university. Compared to other places I considered applying Alcott is far more inclusive and interesting.” She admitted before smirking as she finished off the last of her wine. “I think that’s the best idea I’ve heard all night.”

Christopher paid their bill eventually and called his driver to drive them wherever they wished. “Where do you like to go? My place or yours? Or shall I keep pampering you and invite you over to a fancy hotel of your choice?” He smirked, looking down to the brunette in his arms.

“V-Vivian Lopez.” She said and looked up at the man and shook her head. “I’m apart of the photography department.” She said and swallowed hard.

“Okay, then care to explain how you helped that team failing so miserably, Miss Lopez?” He inquired with a stern tone.

“With my major I’d most likely never even need to step into the medical building let alone take any of your classes. So no offense but no I don’t know who you are, I didn’t really have a reason to.” She said sensing his attitude.

Christopher scoffed shaking his head. “Then I want you to look at the signature on your degree certificate and letter, if you even make it through, and keep in mind how you spoke to me, Miss Pham.”

Adeline rolled her eyes and started to eat her yogurt. “Calm down. I was only teasing you. There’s no reason to go all parental on me.” she insisted to him with a sound of annoyance in her voice. “A B? That’s all?” she laughed as she reached for one of the books he took out. “I think I like the books more than the jewelry.” she commented as she started to flip through the books. “I’ll call her later to thank her.” 

“No reason besides that I am your parent, you mean? But I’ve heard you had a rough night, so can’t have the talk you’re suppose to get after all.” Christopher wasn’t in a mood either to chide her for anything she did or didn’t do. “When was the last time you came home for a better grade, hm?” He inquired absentely, taking care of the package. “Take the books then and wear the brooch next time we visit your grandmother, alright?”

“Fair enough.” She conceded before shrugging ever so slightly. “Naturally I wish to succeed in everything that I do.”

“Then why don’t you go and gather a new team for this project? It would give extra credits if you don’t disappoint as much as they did.”

Adeline couldn’t keep herself from laughing to herself. “Fine. We can leave it at that. Although it’s kind of dull of you.” she added as she put her coffee cup down and looked to see who the package was from. “Well you made the actual maid go away. So that seems like more of your fault than mine.” Adeline was half joking but also half serious. “What’s in there?” she asked him curiously as she eyed the package before picking up her bowl of yogurt and granola. 

“I won’t discuss that wit you again, Adeline. The maid did came up to you, asking for your breakfast and I let the poor woman go, before she gets completely frustrated with your early morning’s attitude.” He turned around, took a knife out to cut the tape around it. “Something that motivates you to get at least a B in your next assignment.” He joked, opening the box carefully. “Your grandmother sent you something again.” He said, taking out a couple of old, dusty books, so as a little piece of jewellery.

“Definitely not. We all have our scars though, some mental, some physical.” She mused before a small smile spread across her features. “Somehow I can’t picture you in law at all, don’t get me wrong you can pull off a suit perfectly but I feel as though you’d fit right in with a medical environment. And as someone who’s spent a lot of time in hospitals.. it’s nice to know you’re in competent hands.”

“Trust me it was a big change when I accepted to succeed the previous president of Alcott University and a even bigger one to allow myself to spent more time here than at the hospital. I found my place there and I trust myself better at the medical environment if you want to call it like this.” he nodded, smirking, proud of his own work. “    I think we should ask for the bill now. We did a lot of talking so far, but there’s no prove if you’re in actual competent hands with me.”

“Would you expect anything differently from your own daughter?” she asked him curiously. “Would it make you feel any better if I said it honestly did start out as a study session?” Adeline asked him before giving him a small shrug of her shoulders. “I think that I can agree to that.” Turning around, he reached to grab the package while she waited for him to get her breakfast. 

“You really don’t want me to answer this question, my dear.” Christopher gave her a glance and walked up to the fridge to take the bowl of yoghurt and granola. “No, it wouldn’t, because I know it never ends with the same result as I expect.” He grew more tense by talking about that topic. “You have to cut your fruits yourself. I’m not your maid for that.” He pointed out, placed her things on the kichten counter next to her and took the package with a thanks.

“Temporarily. I feel like back then I needed someone who could be my strength when I couldn’t muster it up on my own. He tried but he could never truly understand the depths of the darkness that was consuming me.” Deep in the depths of her mind she could clearly remember the darkness that washed over her in waves on a daily basis and became all encompassing to a point where she struggled to get out of bed and get ready for the day. “What got you into medicine? Was it just one of those things that you knew you wanted to pursue or something that found you when you least expected it?”

“It’s not a common thing for people to empathise with on their day to day life, that’s true. Your case is a unique one, something that a normal person, who never could be threatened to be in this situation, can’t understand.” Christopher commented, tapped his finger against the table, after taking a large sip. “It was a healthy combination of both. I was early on drilled to study either medicine or law. It was a personal matter, which lead me into emergency medicine department and also psychology partially.” It was one radically drastic personal matter, which pushed him to understand what they had done to him, to understand himself and other people.

“That sounds like a lot of work.” she teased over dramatically before chuckling softly to herself. “Yeah! Sure! We can totally go with that. But since it was such a late night, would you_ please _be the one gets me that yogurt and granola? See! I know how to say it!”·

Christopher shook his head, taking a sip of his freshly brewed cup of coffee.·“You are unbelievable.” He sighed.·“I want to see you buried in books next time, missy. You’re old enough to take responsibilities of your own actions.” He stated.·“Why don’t you hand me my package behind you and I go get your food? Is that a deal?”

“Then maybe people should respect the fact that I need a moment to myself when I first get up. It was a late night last night.” she informed him as she sat on the counter with her coffee in hand. Sighing, she glanced at the refrigerator and than back at her father as he kissed her temple.

“Have you tried using a please?” He mocked her, wondering if he had spoiled her too much in the past that she tended to pick up this tone to the maids or general staff. “A late night studying?” He inquired, gazing at her.

“It wasn’t a very nice time in my life. It was on par with the fear of never being able to feel my feet and walk again to a certain degree. I guess I was lucky that he didn’t run when I tried to push him away.” She admitted. “Isolation. I was living on the other side of the country to my family, I was on my own and working my ass off day in and day out to prove that I belonged on the force just as much as all the guys that were there. I needed a reprieve, a safe place to simply exist and be honest. It turned out that that place was within the pages of a blank book.”

There were phases in his life, when he wished that he couldn’t feel his body downright from his neck to his feet. Imagining her in that kind of situation of fear and violence, made him feel numb for a second before having himself back in control. “We need people who take us as who we are as broken as we seem to be. Luckyily, you had someone.” Christopher nodded. “I wasn’t a big writer, but I read many things when I needed an escape. Eitherway it was the constant adrenaline when I work at the hospital or that.”

Adeline rolled her eyes at the maid as she grabbed her coffee from the counter and took a sip. “All I want is two minutes to myself. Is that so hard to ask for?” she asked him as she pouted a bit. “Yogurt, fresh fruit and granola will be fine with me.” she told him as she leaned against the wall.

“It’s not. You have to watch your tone, though. This isn’t how I taught you to speak to other people, correct?” Christopher spoke with a bland expression, placing the newspaper down on the kitchen counter. “Healthy choice. The fridge is right there. Serve yourself.” He leaned forward to brush a kiss on her temple and got himself a coffee as well.

“I’m fully aware of that Sir however that’s what a personal assistant is for or perhaps your administrative staff.” She said with a small shrug of her shoulders. “Is that so?”

“They are currently working on a different project for me.” He let his hand run over his beard. “Do you’ like to succeed that job?”

“Listen, you’re lucky I’m even up right now so can you just give me 5 minutes before you bombard me with a million questions?” she asked as she held her hand up to get the other to stop talking as she gathered herself for a moment. 

Hearing his daughter’s voice, Christopher stood up from the couch and closed the newspapers to walk inside the kitchen. “What’s wrong this time?” He raised his eyebrows, watching the two talking - as far as Adeline had the other one stopped to talk. “I guess she was simply asking what you like to have for brunch.” With a nod he dismissed the maid, walking up to his girl.
