“Unown are interesting little creatures and there’s a lot of different theories about their origins and their abilities. Some people think they’re a remnant of an older Pokémon, whether Unown are its creation or its remains after a battle. Some people think they’re messengers of arceus. Some people think they have a man made origin from an ancient peoples. For me… I’m actually a bit of a skeptic in this regard and don’t really buy into these theories.
One theory I’m particularly drawn to when it gets brought up is that Unown are messengers of Arceus, but its infinite wisdom and power are so great, Unown can only hold a small portion of its message. So Unown try to cluster together with other Unown to “reassemble” the complete message. It sounds. Really cool in theory but personally I don’t think it’s very plausible. If arceus really wanted to create a messenger species, legendary beings are right there. Psychic types are right there. I’m sure Arceus itself could appear and teach a Chatot to repeat its message to nearby trainers and Pokémon if it really wanted to.
I can’t deny that Unown have some sort of stored power within them, and the fact that they’ve learned how to arrange themselves in formations that resemble coherent human sentences at times is astounding to say the least. My theory is more along the lines of… magnets? Or lock and key scenarios? Where Unown have an innate desire to connect with other Unown, but only certain specific Pokémon correctly fit the lock and key they’re searching for. Unown on their own are more common because finding those specific Pokémon that match your lock and key are hard to find in the entire worldwide population. When Unown are together in groups or even form words, that’s a lucky scenario where they’ve found part of their combo. What drives them to do this? No idea. And there’s been scenarios where large numbers of Unown will gather without linking up that don’t have an obvious cause.
But hey! Figuring this stuff out is part of the fun of science, right?”

“Okay, this is going to be a bit more ramble-y since this is more speculation than genuine concrete facts, but listen I swear I have somewhere I’m going with this!
I think it’s possible that there might be a common ancestor between Sharpedo and Garchomp. It makes a bit more sense if you’ve ever seen a garchomp fly. They can’t really fly in the sense that they just pick themselves off the ground and start flapping their fins. They are, however, really good at gliding at intense speeds. A garchomp can simply take off and shoot halfway across the Highlands. When you see them in the air and not in their bipedal stance, they look a lot like sharpedo. And sharpedo are most known for their ability to hunt down prey at incredibly fast speeds. Garchomp also look pretty similar in the water to sharpedo, but their aerial speed is better than their swimming speed, so I used that example instead.
It’s not Entirely impossible. For example, species of Pokémon that look entirely unrelated can be traced back to a common ancestor because they all have the same bones in similar part of their bodies, even if those body parts have entirely different functions But it’s not safe to assume that’s entirely the case. Many species of Pokémon can develop similar body parts that serve the same purpose without being related. Like how both bug Pokémon and bird Pokémon learned to fly, but neither have a common ancestor.
Additionally, there could be merit to ruins and historical depictions in this case? I mean descriptions of a water dragon that can move at intense speeds could very well be this common ancestor. At the same time, you can’t get everything from historical records. For all we know, someone could be describing what seems like a perfect match, and actually they were just talking about gyrados.
I can’t point to anything concrete, and there would definitely need to be a study done (which I do not have the manpower nor funding for), but I still think it’s something worth sharing!”

“Realistically speaking, Ditto should be classified as normal/psychic and I will stand by this.
Every other Pokémon that has an illusion ability is just that: an illusion. Illusions that can be seen through or rendered useless. But Ditto? Not only can it transform into the Pokémon it’s copying exactly, but it also copies the moves said pokemon has mastered.
Do you know how many moves a Pokémon can learn??? Do you know how many possible options a Pokémon can have mastered in its kit??? People do not give Zisu enough credit because the answer is A LOT. So tell me how does Ditto know exactly what moves the Pokémon has mastered and how to use them?
Reading the other Pokémon’s mind. That’s psychic type behavior.
I have more thoughts on this honestly, but this is the main idea. Ditto should be normal/psychic, that’s the only way to explain how it can copy specific mastered moves!”

Volo, buddy pal chum mate, please for the love of arceus look at any pictures of the sinnoh champion
“I did once.
At the time, I panicked. Someone who looks like me could mean a variety of things and my immediate thought was “I need to leave the region before something bad happens.” Thankfully Giratina has more experience with this kind of thing and convinced me to think before I ran off.
I have no idea whether she’s my descendent, Cogita’s descendent, this timeline’s Volo’s descendent, or another option. I’m still keeping my distance in case us meeting could cause something bad to happen. Shockingly, no one’s mistaken me for Cynthia despite how similar we look. I guess she has a distinct enough style that I don’t match?”

“Meme Pokémon facts aside, I should probably update you all on things.
I sort of disappeared of the face of the region for a variety of reasons. Some valid, some… really stupid. (I am never showing my face at that event center again, I will literally die of embarrassment). I also sort of stressed myself out trying to do too many things at once so I needed to take a break for a while. I’m here now though! I’ll probably be going at a much slower pace though.
As for what I’ve been doing recently, I’ve been studying to apply for a travel permit for research purposes specifically. I don’t think I’m ready to leave Sinnoh yet and I am definitely nowhere near becoming an official Pokémon researcher, but it’ll be nice to have in the future. Additionally, my roommate’s back from visiting his dad in Unova. If you have any questions about Unovan Pokémon, I’ll be sure to ask him about it!
That’s all from me for now, see you all again soon!”

“Ah Espeon... and the age old question I feel like I’m going to get asked: do you know why Eevee can only evolve into Espeon during the day?
Errrr in short... I don’t. People in the future may have figured it out, but I specifically don’t know.
In longer terms? I do know some theories. Some people think it has something to do with Espeon’s sensitivity to weather patterns and the sun can be a trigger for further developing those sensitivities in Eevee. Some think it has something to do with the psychic typing and that the sun, giving max visibility, leads to hyper awareness of surroundings and eventual development of psychic abilities in others. Some think it’s based on preference, just like how people have early Starly and night Noctowl. You like daytime? Get the daytime evolution.
As for something I DO know! Espeon actually used to be very important in ancient cultures, to the point that some revered them as minor deities or sub legendaries. Since Espeon are very sensitive to weather and wind patterns due to their fur and forked tails, they’re very good for helping with things like crops, trade, fishing, safety, and season predictions! If you look hard enough for certain ruins, you can actually find old images of Espeon from ancient cultures and it’s believed that even in the times where Pokemon were wildly feared, Espeon was one of the few pokemon that people seemed to relatively trust!”

“A lot of grass type Pokémon have a very fascinating but confusing line of ‘at what point are they more plant versus Pokémon’ and Leafeon are a spectacular example of that!
Starting off, there’s a significant amount of Leafeon whose color changes based on the seasons and amount of daylight. I think Professor Laventon estimated around 30% of Leafeon have this particular trait! Then, separate from those categories, there are Leafeon that can actively grow things from their foliage! The numbers for that aren’t quite out yet, but the most common form we’ve seen so far is Leafeon producing flowers. It kind of makes sense if you think about it; I can imagine it takes more energy and resources to produce fruit compared to a flower.
My Leafeon, Addy, has the ability to color change. Usually his leaves stay green for most of the year, turn red-orange in the fall, and then fade to a brown in the winter. Adaman’s Leafeon, Maple, can’t color change but every year in the warmer months, his foliage is full of little pink flowers! I always thought they were really pretty but Adaman says his tent is a mess whenever they start shedding everywhere hehe. Oh! And we had this one lady in the Ginkgo Guild, her name was Kakula, who had a Leafeon. I didn’t know her too well personally, but her Leafeon actually produced berries. She used to sell them and always said they were the sweetest she’d ever had.
If you know anyone with a Leafeon, you should try asking about it! I’m sure you’ll get a good story out of it!”

“Here’s a fun fact! Did you know that back in the old days, Glaceon were frequently mistakes for ghosts? Having been around Glaceon for as much as we have now, it seems a bit silly, but the reasons at the time were quite understandable!
Glaceon can freeze the area around it up to a certain radius and can freeze its own fur to make it more needle like. Glaceon, despite how much you would think otherwise from how deep of a blue their fur color is, are actually quite hard to see in snow. So people wandering around in snowy areas would see nothing and then suddenly feel razor-sharp needle pains all across their body. Or people would be wandering in non frozen areas and the area around them would suddenly get cold when a Glaceon was nearby. People came to assume that Glaceon were souls of those lost in snowstorms or ghosts who had a connection to the cold. Kind of similar to Froslass now that I think about it!”

🍇 🍍 🍑 ( ;) ) 🍆
🍇: What sort of friend are they? Where are they in the group dynamic?
Volo’s a quiet friend who opens up more once you get to know him. he doesn’t want to scare anybody off or be Too excitable so he tends to kind of lurk in the background politely until you’re both comfortable around each other.
once you’ve reached that point, he’s like a Sibling Friend. he’s good with teasing and messing around, but will also be the one to check in and make sure you’re okay when you’re feeling down. he’s also the one that makes everyone food, you Will go to where he’s staying and watch him make the best curry of your life.
in the group dynamic... he definitely takes a lot of lighthearted teasing. especially around his height (he’s not the shortest, he’s around 5′7, but he’s constantly surrounded by taller people). he’s also the guy hiding behind someone else saying “excuse me he asked for no pickles.” he’s also the person everyone takes along to events because he is VERY expressive and if he’s excited about something, everyone else will get excited along with him
🍍: Where does your OC feel most comfortable?
-in Hisui /lh
-in the wilderness (to an extent). he’s used to traveling by himself long distances and having to forage around or pack well for survival, so it brings a sense of comfort to him! As long as the environment is manageable like he won’t feel the same in completely unfamiliar territory or next to a volcano or something
-anywhere surrounded by his pokemon. They’ve been the companions who has stuck with him the longest! they’re like his pseudofamily!
-ginkgo guild outposts. his family were merchants of the ginkgo guild and while he may not be the BEST merchant, he always feels welcome in the ginkgo guild. it’s one of the last remaining links to his family
-his roommate’s apartment. it’s his safe haven in modern times! he stayed inside and didn’t leave for a SIGNIFICANT amount of time while he was still adjusting to the time period he was in
🍑: What sort of traits does your OC look for in a Significant Other?
-looks, for one, but it’s more subconsciously. Volo doesn’t really think too hard about which way he swings/what specific sexuality he is, so he’s not going to turn someone down because they don’t look a certain way, but it does play a minor factor
-cuddly. See the ask below, but Volo very much enjoys physical affection. He wants to be held and he wants to be snuggled and he wants to give all of that affection right back. Being okay with a lot of touch and affection is a must!
-low-stress/”cozy” vibes. there’s probably a better word for this that I can’t think of, but Volo is a very anxious person. He needs someone who won’t raise his anxiety levels and will also be understanding of when they come up.
-patient. not even including the PLA post-game things he did, Volo also has a rough past, a lot of things he wouldn’t like to talk about, and self-esteem issues. He will open up about things eventually and get more of a solid footing the longer he feels comfortable about someone, but they’ll have to have a lot of patience.
-loves pokemon. this is non-negotiable. they have to love pokemon and care for them well, or he will not stay with them.
🍆: Does your OC have any favourite form of affection, physical or otherwise?
Volo loves hugs. Not necessarily from people he doesn’t know, but if you are a close friend, he is absolutely fine with getting tackled into a hug. He greatly enjoys physical affection in general!
Another form of affection for him is just being nearby. He’s like a cat where he’s perfectly happy sitting next to someone and doing different things as a way of showing companionship.
He also enjoys gifts. He is the kind of person where he will get stressed if he gets Too Many Gifts, but small gifts of kindness and well thought out gifts both mean a lot to him

“Flareon aren’t actually found very often in the wild compared to the other evolutions of Eevee. The reasoning is... honestly a bit sad?
Flareon actually have very low heat tolerance. They’re like personal heaters that constantly let off heat through their fur because their internal body temperature is so hot. A lot of fire stones are found around hot areas or places with remnants of volcanic activity. So if an eevee finds a fire stone somewhere blisteringly hot, a place that may not be ideal as an eevee but certainly not the worst, it basically becomes a ticking death trap for the newly evolved Flareon. If it can escape that environment and get somewhere cooler, it should live a very fulfilling life. If not though... they probably eventually succumb to heat exhaustion and die from heatstroke there.
While it’s a sad tale, its not always the end! Many Flareon do escape and because of the randomness of Pokemon breeding, Flareon can be born without needing a fire stone. Plus there are some that find fire stones outside of hot areas by pure chance and there are pokemon facilities that raise Flareon so they can be released into the wild for breeding if their species ever needs a population boost!”

“Jolteon are rather... finicky pokemon. They do have quite the undeserved bad reputation, but they definitely aren’t the best option for new trainers!
All pokemon have some visual or audio cue to show that they feel threatened and they’re ready to attack; for Jolteon, that cue is sending a significant amount of electricity normally stored elsewhere to the tips of its fur and making them stand up straight. The problem is Jolteon... feel threatened quite a lot. Loud noises, sneaking up behind them, giving them something they don’t like, even other pokemon (i’ve noticed that the males of this species are Especially aggressive). So this is where the misconception comes from that Jolteon will always shock you if you touch them!
If a Jolteon has had a peaceful life and gotten along well with the world around them, they’re quite docile creatures! However you’ll know a moody Jolteon because you’ll finding them needing to discharge electricity at regular intervals: they gotta get rid of all the electricity they’ve been storing from being stressed after all!”

“I’m very biased seeing as Vaporeon is my favorite of the eeveelutions, but Vaporeon is very interesting biologically speaking!
Vaporeon’s body has a composition pretty close to water and, depending on the Vaporeon, they can melt into the water and become varying stages of translucent in it! If you were to look inside a Vaporeon, you’ll find they actually have multiple sacks in their body. Vaporeon can ration spare food and water into those pouches and then divert them to its stomach later. These pouches are very good for hibernation season! Domestic Vaporeon don’t have this problem, but most Vaporeon in the wild live off of plants that grow in and around waterbeds as well as small fish. As water starts to freeze over, these food sources die off or become harder to access. So! Vaporeon will stuff their little pouches to the brim with goodies during better seasons and slowly digest them in colder months! It’s so fascinating to see!“ -Volo
