In this universe it is the times of the Gilded age, which is the Victorian era of America, though you can get as loose as you want with your characters as long as they are based somewhere in the 1800s, historical accuracy is of course a flexible rule.

This is an AU based for the characters of the Historical Resurrection RP (@columbiauniversity-schoolboard) and possibly the characters sorrounding them, and this is of course inspired by the Summer Camp AU (@roleplay-summercamp-au). Nothing which happens in this RP is canon to that one. Since this is an alternate universe, these RPs are segregated and seperate, and so—any lore or information about the characters shared here will stay here in this RP.

No cross tagging, linking, mentioning, etc, from this rp to the other. This is a separate fictional "what if" situation that poses no actual effects on the canon characters.

Not every character has to be a pre-existing one in the other rp, but it is highly recommended as most will be.

This RP is not intended with any real seriousness or to be permanent/long-term, and neither are the characters you will see here. This is just for the laughs and goofs!

The usual common decency of no racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, pedophilia, antisemitism, ableism, etc.

The style of this RP will be a literate one, though you do not have to become Shakespeare for your replies. As long as you and your RP partner are happy, do what you wish!

OOC ask! whats a voice claim you have for your characters?

// never had voice claims for any of my characters before... so this triggered a tiny bit of a deep dive LMAO so here is as close as i could get:

Jadro could just be Hugh Grant from Maurice as that is now his accidental face claim anyhow (even if it's not the most accurate) BUT sort of leans towards 6 as well (a blend of the two, i guess?) (yes i KNOW the voices aren't even remotely similar), Wilhelm is Thoma, Percival is Kaveh, Alice the female form of The Wind Master Shi Qingxuan (i fought for my LIFE trying to find some sort of proper reference for Shi Qingxuan JESUS) , Aynısefa is Kaalaa Baunaa, Lychee is Xie Lian, and Romeo Sethos!

not the most perfect picks, the personalities and ofc the accents don't match but... the colour of the voice is still there, it's as close as i could currently get at least

I know you mentioned there would be a lot of -isms because of the time period but -isms wouldn’t be roleplayed BUT how are those handled?

// BASICALLY issues like that can be hinted at in the background, but characters cant outwardly exhibit these themes themselves, but here is that as an explanation with examples if anyone will need it;

so when it comes to Jadro there will be hints or he'll maybe even mention here or there the fact that he was basically a surf and gained freedom only relatively recently, and the theme of xenophobia will be very prominent in him when it comes to (again for example) him changing his name or lying about the exact area he grew up in or straightening his hair and staying out the sun to not tan as much, but no characters are allowed to be STRAIGHT UP XENOPHOBIC, yk? like sure it's victorian let's say America you still aren't gonna make a character go up to an another and say "man fuck the immigrants"

wilhelm is in a rough spot with his gender and so it will be yk mentioned here and there that hey being secretly trans in the 19th century was REALLY hard, but no character will actually walk up and start spewing around transphobic stuff. you're not gonna have a character walk up to someone and be like "geez i sure do love there are only two biological genders" and use "but it's time accurate!!1!1!" as an excuse.

issues like these are IMPOSSIBLE to miss when writing about history, because then the only characters available to play would be straight cis western neurotypical white guys, just don't make your character be ACTIVELY a racist or something and make sure you are doing your research on whatever you are trying to present and you're good lil bro!!

AND if ya'll remember that "characters but younger" summercamp AU we had for a bit- we've also had the idea for a victorian AU! basically, everything as is it is now in theory but victorian or generally vaguely 1800s, the time a lot of the characters live. the setting would be similar, probably, but character backstories could be incorporated somehow better aka they dont have to really work or study at the university but just do whatever they did pre-death. then again, the setting as in the place may change because... again, thoughts and opinions needed. AND some characters would work in the 1800s some don't, some would require some tweaking to make them work for the period, and ofc this all means that the social issues that were present in the victorian times (racism, sexism, xenophobia, ableism, ect ect) would rear their ugly head more prominently as they do in the lore of the characters (straight up rp of any of these things ofc isnt tolerated don't be goofy), these are all things to consider, this also wouldn't be a permanent thing like the summercamp AU

Could people just rp in the style they’re comfortable with?

// i mean, i'm not god nor the tax collector so i can't tell you want to do or not to do, but considering the way the styles do not match up at all, at least i personally feel it would look very weird to see the two mixing.

i see the literary style is winning rn in terms of the two main choices, so i'll remind that like i get literary does look a bit intimidating at first but i swear it's not that bad 🙏 no one has to be writing Shakespeare if that gets picked in the end, it's just a tiny style change of writing like a book with "quotes for dialogue" instead of doing the *asterisks for actions*.

THOUGH AGAIN, we'll see what wins the poll and even then, while i personally wouldn't say it's the bestest of ideas to mix styles i can't stop anyone from doing it, just live laugh love babes as long as the EFFORT is being matched with each reply and everyone is cool chill and having fun do whatever forever 👍

we RP as we do now, an example being:

we RP in a literary style, an example being:

They waved, a soft smile on their face; "Hello!"

basically, actions are written out and explained as they would be in a traditional book. here are other examples (idk these people btw again just random examples)

the replies can be as short or as long as you want, as detailed or as flowery or as matter of fact, they don't have to be long ass paragraphs if you don't want to or if it doesnt fit the Vibe™ of whats happening.

though, this style leaves more room for a character to be explained better and for more dialogue to happen, and also can give an insight into the thought process, overall just showing off a character better.

these replies do take overall longer to write, though that could make for a very chill slow paced back burner AU RP as we focus on this one.

most of the characters here came to America in their last lives and/or are thematically tied to it, setting it in their past or something that would resmble their past would make it easier to tweak them to fit the time period and would also make their backstories and lore much more prominent in RP + just easier to do plots

England, for a change

when you think "Victorian age" i mean you are PROBABLY thinking about England, Victorian age is literally used as an age in England's history, so it would make more sense like that and add a nice backdrop change, though some characters might be harder to tweak to fit into England.
