My latest update to Victor Scarlet, one of my oldest ocs
For those who would like to go on a wild journey of self discovery with me, check below the cut
I decided to go and look for the oldest drawings I could find of Victor. His inception into this world was (I believe) during the summer of 2016 where I wanted to use him to play dnd. I think that I lost that original design because it was done with colored pencils on paper. The oldest drawing I could find was this shoulders up piece from 2018. He was devoid of freckles at this point. Yes, it's super shitty. His head is huge, the colors are weak, the shading is non-existent. But hey, I've improved significantly in my artwork since then.
Next, we have another shoulders up piece from 2019. I was experimenting with my style. To be perfectly honest, I still really like this one. I like the expression and though the 'painted' style is pretty crude, I appreciate the attempt at the style I was trying to mimic.
This next drawing is from 2021. At that point, I had gotten an actual drawing tablet and gotten more comfortable with my style. The massive gap between this drawing and my previous one is because I lost all other redesigns that I had done. I'm not very fond of how light I'd made his hair, but I like the colors I used for his clothes. This particular length of hair is what I've generally stuck with over the years as well. It was around this time (I think) that I solidified him as trans 🏳️⚧️
In 2023, I decided on yet another redesign. Nothing particularly jarring took place. It's relatively similar to the previous design. The most specific design choice is that I included a drawing of him with a binder on. I also gave him this strange, asymmetrical haircut that I actually am quite fond of. For some reason, I didn't include his freckles in this drawing, but I think it was just an oversight.
The next most significant redesign(s) came this past year in 2024. These designs came about due to the fact that I was able to make a version of him in Baldur's Gate. I messed around a lot with how I thought he should look. I think the thing I like the most about the Baldur's Gate design is the orange highlights that he definitely got from his mother. He'd also never had earrings until this point, which is just a travesty. He looks very good with earrings.
Finally, to complete this little journey, we have the newest redesign. This design came about because (after having him for almost ten years) I'm finally using him in an actual dnd campaign! I'm so incredibly happy with how far I've come with my art and even more happy that Victor has been on this journey with me 🩵🩷🤍

"The trick shot by Laura was actually made in one take. They had planned for a pool expert to make the shot after cutting away from showing Laura hitting the cue ball. But to everyone's surprise, she actually made the shot. Both Mary Tyler Moore and Dick Van Dyke stayed in character and finished the take, thus the genuine look of surprise on their faces."
In the second gif, she's holding for applause before saying her line.
#i adore the dick van dyke show#i didn't realize she wasn't supposed to have made that shot#that's incredible

Ive been intermittently practicing frame by frame animation for the past two years and finally hitting the point where I'm like "wow this is actually decent looking" anyway I spent like 8 hours on this and was so proud then I realized it was only a second long. im still proud of it but animating takes too longggg done in clip studio paint EX also
