I’m just gonna say it. I find non-shippers so fucking boring. It’s absolutely true that a lot of K-Pop “shippers” take things WAY too far. They genuinely believe idols are together (cough cough Jikook kids cough cough), they send weird shit to idols ABOUT their ships, they fetishize gay men, they make it weird and I do not support any of that. BUT as a fiction author, I’ve always loved it. I think it’s so interesting to take these headcanons and characterizations and run with them. It’s so fun to mess around with traits and compatibility and, in a purely fictional way, talk about these things. It is so harmless and so fun to just sit in a KKT chat and be like “Minghao would be PERFECT with Sooyoung and here’s why.” It is so fun to roll up in someone’s inbox and be like “High school AU involving sports… Who in EXID would be dating football star Mingyu?” And people who just go “um ew I don’t ship REAL PEOPLE” are missing out on such harmless and creative discourse. Like it is seriously such a lowkey, innocent thing to do and some people make it so WEIRD and I just find people who don’t wanna discuss fictional ships and AUs so boring. Like if I can’t send you a photo of Seungcheol back-hugging Mingyu with 6 crying emojis and have you send 8 broken hearts back, we can’t be friends. If I can’t send you a TaoHun mirror selfie with “WE COULD HAVE HAD IT ALLLLLLLL” we can’t be friends. If we can’t talk about Taeyeon doing nothing but eating salad and watching anime while Tiffany was away for solo promotions have you dissect it with me, I’m sorry, we’re not meant to be. I just think it’s a fucking blast to text my group chat about a Seventeen rare pair that no one has ever talked about and be like “WHO MAKES THEM WEAR UGLY CHRISTMAS SWEATERS THE DAY AFTER THANKSGIVING?” The writer and debater in me just needs that fix.

It honestly makes me a bit uncomfortable how crazy the kpop fandom is, I got into groups like bts, exo , shinee and a few girl groups as a form of escapism but as soon as I tried to explore it outside of just youtube videos I was met with complete chaos that made it embarrassing to call myself a fan or talk about my interests without saying “im not one of THOSE fans” first. I just wish I could enjoy it without that.

It’s rude when someone says a member of a group doesn’t belong. It’s not only rude but really stupid and out of line they work just as hard as the rest of the group. Maybe not as talented to the rest but that member could just as much as be a pillar to support the groups image or support them emotionally. Like Minho has such an older brother feel towards his members and he doesn’t bring the group down when performing live, he can dance well and he doesn’t sound bad so why say he doesn’t belong.
