¡Sabrosura!: The wonderful localization of Hole Punch in the Latin Spanish version of Origami King 💛✨
I had been wanting to make this post for a long time and I'm finally happy to have found the time to make it possible. Personally I consider that something very interesting about Origami King is how like its history, already endearing, contains details that are adapted to different regions of the world. After all, it's a game inspired by different cultures and the variety of these localizations only enriches the world that many of us fans already love and appreciate.
One of these mentioned details that I would like to share with you is one of the adaptations of Hole Punch, specifically the one seen in Latin Spanish, to which I have a special affection for multiple reasons, so I hope that this post can inform you more about it. ✨
Before we start and, as you know, I'm only a fan of this game making a personal interpretation. I'm not an expert in any of the themes mentioned here, so do not hesitate to correct me if I have an error and please take my words in the best possible way. I do not intend to offend or insult anyone with this post, just to share my interpretation.
Full explanation under the cut! (Warning of looong text!)

To start, I want to mention the most basic: this is the adaptation that was used for Latin America. Hence, some of the aforementioned elements involve the culture of this region.
Dialogues and writing in Paper Mario's games are one of the most important elements of the narrative, because it's through the expressions and actions of the characters that we can learn more about their personality. Punch is no exception, being presented as an fan of disco, perhaps even a little outdated, but aggressive with his opinions. His most prominent phrase: "It's Groovy!" in latin spanish it is replaced by "Sabrosura!", but what does it mean?
"Sabrosura" is an expression used throughout Latin America (mainly Cuba, Nicaragua and Peru) which comes from the word "sabroso", which means Tasty. However, in this conjugation, it's an expression used to denote energy or beauty of a person. Most likely, considering the game approach, they first meaning has been used, but we will see this below.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/7b66ed94e8aa87ae3f78b1cf1aa265a1/be8e0cb1eb513b29-10/s540x810/dafe4077c4528513ae315eed75bfe8c2c36d75ba.jpg)
[“And seeing that around these corners the sun never comes out, the sabrosura will never end! Je, je, je! Let's daaance!”]
In the dialogue shown, Punch uses this expression in its meaning of passion. Sabrosura can be described colloquially as an energy that is attractive, has good vibes and is appropriate to the situation. When you say that you are doing something with sabrosura, it is easy to know what you mean: you are doing well, with passion and personality.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/649014513582a1e1453fed7aaa47a1d4/be8e0cb1eb513b29-bd/s540x810/8639c93b14a60703262adfcfe3b60f842707d3f1.jpg)
["You better play something with what I can spill my sabrosura!"]
However, since the game sometimes jokes a bit with double meaning, it's not surprising that Punch dialogues can be misunderstood in the second sense of the expression. HER dialogues can also be read as a Punch alluding to her own beauty, almost as if she called herself "sexy", eager for everyone to look at her on the dance floor. One of the reasons that gives strength to this interpretation is that "sabrosura" is usually used to refer to female beauty and, in this adaptation, Punch uses female pronouns.
However, I consider that it's important to indulge more into the origin of this expression to understand a little of what the game locators had in mind when characterizing Punch. For this, we must know a liiiittle more about latin american culture.
As I have explained before, the expression has its roots in specific latin american countries, although over time it extended to the entire region. With this extension, the word was mainly coined to different urban tribes; among them, reggaetoneros, rumberos and cumbieros stand out.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/8ace27964a3195b5a99288eac6c8ae1b/be8e0cb1eb513b29-68/s540x810/ac4602428a3db41a7343fa4d09e513b85e873df4.jpg)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/b0c4ed6f4c741c6e0c0c17b786c492b3/be8e0cb1eb513b29-03/s540x810/9312712a366b13f8ec6aa1abafb2e2bad75fe107.jpg)
All those mentioned are groups characterized by certain traits in common: or middle or low class latin people gathered by love of music and street dance, informal, "neighborhood style". If the idea of dancing freely in the middle of the street, with full volume music using public roads as an impromptu dance floor doesn't sound like Punch, then I suppose I have failed in my interpretation.
Although it should be noted that not only the love for music and dance is taken into account at the time of characterizing Punch as a member of these groups, therefore, of the aforementioned groups, the cumbieros and reggaetoneros have the reputation of showing a behavior based on the idea of momentary pleasure, general rebellion and loyalty to those belonging to their group, even if this represents getting involved in conflicts. As we know, these are elements that characterize the Disco Devil.

[“I'm really the best!!! I'll be the queen of the dance floor until the sunrise.” ]
Is it really so important if Punch was characterized in the Latin version as a middle-class street dancer? Yeah! Like a latine that has grown in these environments, seeing groups that are often not seen in media because they are not "aesthetic enough" was a beautiful surprise. These are teeny weenie details that may not make much sense for people who do not identify these groups, and it's fine if you don't share my interpretation! But for my part, this is one of the many reasons why Punch is my favorite Stationery, so I wanted to share it with you. ✨
TLDR; Latin Spanish Punch is a street dancer who likes to feel sexy. Freaking cool, right?
