The NARS velvet matte pencils are thick, creamy lip pencils that come in a large array of colors, ranging from nudes to vibrant pinks and purples. Not to mention the reviews on the NARS website are an average of 4.5 of 5 and they look absolutely beautiful!  

The down side is, one is $27, making it difficult to have the opportunity to buy or own an assortment of these. 

Similarly, colourpop cosmetics also has a product like this with a just as impressive assortment of shades and high reviews, which state the formula is amazing and a great product for the price.

Is it worth it? 

Possibly. If you only wear a certain color or two, perhaps you’d enjoy the luxurious packaging of the NARS pencils, and you’d get the most ‘bang for your buck.’ However, if you’re like me and love having variety and trying new colors, I’d recommend colourpop.

Too Faced is one of my all time favorite makeup brands, between the good quality of their products and not to mention cute packaging, when they announced they were making their own highlighters, I was beyond excited.

The Love Light Prismatic highlighters come in a shiny heart packaging containing 0.32oz of product, with the traditional Too Faced logo pressed into the product. It comes in 3 colors, Blinded by the Light, described to be a champagne color, Ray of Light described to be rose gold, and You Light Up My Life, gold.

However, reviews declare otherwise, sadly, this product is not worth it.

It has only earned a 3.3 out of 5 rating on sephora.com. There were of course, high ratings but for every comment from a happy customer, there was an unhappy one. For the pricepoint and general bad vibes the negativity of this product has given me, I’ll pass.

‘Anastasia Beverly Hills is a brand arguably most known for their ‘Glow Kits’, with sparkling packaging and multiple highlighters. They retail for $40 on the Anastasia website and Sephora. 

Recently Anastasia and youtuber Nicole Guerriero announced a collaboration, and it looks beautiful inside and out.

Kitty Kat – Pink with a platinum reflect Forever Young – Pink pearl with a silver reflect Daydream – Coral with a white gold reflect Forever Lit – Platinum with a lavender reflect Glo Getter – Champagne with a rose reflect 143 – Rose gold with a bronze reflect

With the announcement of this collaboration has me wondering if the company will continue to produce even more ‘glow kits’ such as this one, which is one of a few. However I have not yet invested in a glow kit, this one makes me want to. This palette looks interesting since the list of shades are an even mix between fun and natural, not to mention usual glow kits only contain 4 colors, this one giving 2 new options.

The product has an average of 4.5 stars on the Sephora website, comments say that the product is ‘perfect for every skin tone’, ‘long lasting’, and ‘easy to apply.’

Although I do hate spending $40 on a single product, I do believe this is well worth it. Single highlighters from name brands usually retail for $30, and with the amazing reviews on this versatile highlighting palette, I will definitely be purchasing it.

 Tom Ford is yet another brand of makeup I have yet to personally try, again, the pricing being the main reason.

The company’s Inhibition Cheek Color is described as a soft, rosy medium brown with peachy undertones. For 2017, Tom Ford reformulated this powder blush formula, the new formula is described as “layers of possibility, from a sexy glow to a more dramatic, color-rich look” that is supposed to apply “with the comfort of a cream.”

The blush is sold for $60, for only 0.28oz of product.

However, there are plenty of other lower priced products, of almost identical color.

Makeup Geek’s Infatuation blush is a warm brown with a satin finish which retails for $10.00 and contains 0.15 oz. A $50 savings already!

Another amazing product for an even more amazing price is the Essence Satin Love blush, a warm brown. It contains 0.17oz of product and retails for only $2.99! A $57 savings!

So, is the original product worth it?

Definitely not.

In the world of makeup, $60 can get you a good amount if you spend it wisely. And spending all of it on one blush, is not a smart decision. Although these products are not complete matches, they’re close enough to allow you to still create your look.

Giorgio Armani makeup is one brand I have yet to try, with the price being the only reason. Giorgio Armani’s NO. 18 fluid sheer liquid highlighter is a gorgeous warm copper highlight, with a pearly finish on the skin. 

Although eveyrthing from the packaging to the way the product blends into the skin is beautiful, a 1.0 oz bottle of this is $62. 

However, for every over priced product, there is one of reasonable price!

Although the NYX ‘Rose Quartz Away We Glow’ liquid highlighter may not give as much as a regal feel, it’s $55 price difference definitely makes up for it. 

Even though the products aren’t twins, they are comparable enough. 

As someone who likes variety in products, I’d gladly purchase this highlight in a couple of colors before spending over $60 on a bottle of one color of highlight. For me, the cheaper product is more bang for your buck!

If you’re a fan of Too Faced Cosmetics or Kat Von D Beauty, you have surely heard of the Better Together collaboration!

Their main collaboration is the Better Together palette, a magnetic, heart shaped pull apart palette was made for creating custom looks.

The set includes 6 eye shadows from Too Faced in their signature formula, 6 eye shadows from Kat Von D in their signature formula, a full-size Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, and a full-size Kat Von D Tattoo Liner. It goes for $65 for a total of 0.71oz or product (the palette). 

I believe this is a good buy. Some palettes from these brands and brands similar to these two can go for $49, not including two other products. I’d say splurge on this.

However if you do not want the palette, you can purchase the bundle of the full sized mascara and eyeliner for $20.

The collection also includes the Better Together Cheek and Lip Makeup Bag set, including a two-sided collectible bag, Too Faced Deluxe Candlelight Glow Highlighter in Rosy Glow, Too Faced Deluxe Love Flush Blush,  Kat Von D Deluxe Everlasting Love Liquid Lipstick in the new shade XO and  Kat Von D Deluxe Studded Kiss Lipstick in the new shade Muse. This is sold for $38.

This product is just as cute, but is it worth it? If you’re a dedicated collector of these two brands, you may want this for the products only sold with this bundle. If not, I do not believe any makeup bag is worth this much.

Becca Cosmetics has released a limited edition item, the Prismatic Amethyst Shimmering Skin Perfector, a cool pink highlighting powder. The product is described as  ‘ultrafine luminescent pearls that absorb, reflect, and refract light to amplify your natural radiance.’ Although it sounds amazing, it goes for nearly $40 ($28 exactly) for 0.28oz. 

And although beautiful, a very similar, cheaper product has been said to be just as comparable. The NYX Lavender Steel Duo Chromatic Illuminating Powder is sold at $7.99 for 0.21 oz product. Although the amount of product between the two products is slightly off, the $30 price difference is too big an amount to deny.

Kylie Cosmetics has released another collection, just for Valentines Day. 

Besides her most known product, her lip sticks, Kylie has expanded her horizons and began introducing eye shadows, multiple eyeshadow duo packages, to be exact. 

These duos, titled Smooch, Kiss Me, and Sweetheart come with 2 mini lipsticks for $22 for limited time.

Although a decent price compared to past promotions, Colourpop Cosmetics also have a Valentine’s Day Collection, which happens to be very similar.

As stunning as this is, is it worth it? Frankly, no.

There’s plenty of products described as similar to this for a fraction of the cost.

Makeup Revolution’s ‘Loved me the Best’ blush, contains 0.21oz and is only $5. That is a $62 savings!

Tarte Embraced is a cool plum with a frost finish that is limited edition and retails for $28.00 and contains 0.20 oz.

Sleek MakeUP Pomegranate is a warm plum with a frost finish that is permanent and retails for $6.99 and contains 0.27 oz. That is a dramatic difference is amount of product and price!

This limited edition palette has been well waited for, as being a new idea to the current makeup industry, in contrast to most palettes including neutral colors.

It earns a 5 star average on Katvondbeauty.com, some examples of raved reviews call the palette ‘easy to apply’, ‘blendable’, ‘crease resistant’. 

I say a product of this uniqueness and high quality is worth the price - splurge on! Especially if you are trying new looks, expand your horizons, or try something new.

 For me, spending a large amount of money on any product is difficult, especially nail polish.

Christian Louboutin Chrome Nail Colors go for $30 each for a 0.20fl oz bottle. The limited edition bottles and shades are described as a “laminated leather with a mirror-like quality.”

Raving reviews say this product holds true to its promises, although I’ll pass on it, the product does look beautiful! If you feel like splurging, it may as well be on something Louboutin!
