I love this part so much because not only is it, according to Rose’s footnotes, a rather ludicrous act of petty vengeance on Hugo’s part, but the edition of Gil Blas Marius is referring to here was published in 1820, when Marius would have been 10 years old.

Christmas present for my Dear Sweet Wife, because when you are in the Les Misérables fandom, a picture of a starving street urchin whose next stage instruction was [shot multiple times, dies] is entirely appropriate. I’m pretty sure she had All The Feels At Once, it was pretty impressive to watch.
