"My car stalled while driving and won't start." We're sorry to say that there is no silver lining with this customers concern. Unfortunately due to lack of maintenance the timing belt on this Audi A4 has broken causing the pistons to hit the valves. What is generally a realistic service that takes about half a day will now cost around $4,500 and the car will be down for the better part of a week. This clutch has seen better days! This clutch and flywheel is out of a Shelby Cobra Kit car from Factory Five. The Rear Main Seal on the engine was leaking oil into the portion of the transmission that houses the clutch. When the clutch disc got saturated in oil it just wore it down as the oil caused a lot of slippage. Overall the repair is actually very simple but it just takes a little bit of time. While we were in there we upgraded the clutch to something a little higher end than what was in there. This is a Timing Belt. It' purpose is to make sure that all of the internals of the engine move in sync with one another. A broken belt can lead to some really serious problems. Cracks in the belt are bad..... "Why won't my truck start when it's cold?" This "GMC" owner found himself in a bad situation after having a friend repair a wiring issue for him. "Why don't my brake lights work?" This new customer was having trouble with his brake lights. His friend kept replacing the brake light bulbs for him but they still wouldn't work and they weren't sure why. The issue here wasn't the bulbs, it was with the wiring going to the light. Without power, the bulbs won't work. The connection to the light assembly was melted causing wiring and light damage. We had to replace the light assembly and repair the wiring. "Why does my car smell like gas?" The culprit here was rotted fuel lines. The actual leak was difficult to get a picture of because the point of the leak was above the gas tank but this is a shot of the lines right before they get to the leak. Pretty rotted.... The repair can go a couple of ways here. Sometimes the lines can be repaired by cutting out the rot and replacing sections. But that's generally a temporary repair because the old lines continue to rot. "Why does my car shake and make a grinding noise when stopping?" After road testing the vehicle to verify the customer's concern we removed all 4 wheels to take a closer look. The brake rotors on this Nissan are really rotted. So when the brake pad presses against the rotor it rubs on a rough and uneven surface causing the shake and noise. These rotors are too rotted to repair so we simply replaced the pads and rotors. "Why does my car click when I turn?" After a short road test the clicking noise was painfully apparent as well as a significant vibration at all speeds. The picture below shows the Driver's side axle that's completely missing the outer "CV Boot". The boot holds the grease in place so it can lubricate the joint. Without any grease in the joint the axle just wears away. The only repair here was to replace the axle.
