don’t be fooled by the adjective on the weather snapshot (i.e., ‘light). no filter on these bad boys! we had some incredibly sandy sandstorms in the month of february. you could not even walk outside without getting a mouth/eye/hair-ful of sand. i miss snow storms right about now...

the dubai ‘gold souk’ - nuts, dates, and gold... lots and lots of gold! the pistachios and dates were pretty much the only thing in my budget-frame. the dates were the best i’ve ever tasted - much juicier than the ones in cairo. maybe that has something to do with the US$1mill dubai spends EVERY DAY on irrigation!

"global village," dubai. basically a huge exhibition grounds where there is, in fact, a tiny 'country-themed' village. there's the united kingdom, china, thailand, cambodia, turkey, uae, and egypt to name only a few. each country has their own architecturally-themed grandstand, where inside you'll find vendors - from their native country - selling native-country goods. alabaster from egypt in the egypt pavilion, turkish apple tea from istanbul in the turkey pavilion... very interesting, to say the least.

dubai mall, dubai, united arab emirates. had a wonderful long weekend basking in the sun away from the chill of cairo's winter! we explored the dubai mall and enjoyed some tim horton's - like a home away from home! pictured in the middle of this collage is the 'burg khalifa,' currently the tallest building in the world.

st. simon 'stone' church within the walls of garbage city. houses over 12,000 people - 15,000 if you get a bit squishy. originally a 10m dugout into the mountain.
