This online course aims at teaching you about various aspects of anglo-saxon music (and music in general). You'll have to read articles and do exercises on the moodle page, to be able, in the end, to either embody an existing band or create your own from scratch, and present it to the class.

The links on this page cannot function if you are not connected to tumblr. To open a link, right-click on it and choose “open in a new tab”.
Due to an absence of programming skills from the team, the activities proposed in the webquest have not been included to tumblr, and can be found on the moodle page where they have been made.
The aim of this webquest is to teach you about various aspects of anglophone music (and music in general) as well as develop your reading and oral skill. The activities are best suited for students of a B1-B2 level.
Acquisition of grammatical rules
The preliminary activiy will be a mere training on the present perfect, unrelated to music, yet expected to be used by the students in their final presentation.
Acquisition of vocabulary / Oral Comprehension
The second activity will be based on song listening then filling the blanks in the text.
Written Comprehension
Two articles are to be read, they are relatively easy to understand. Their content is supposed to help the student in building their final task, as well as raise their interest in music.
A powerpoint on Concept Albums & Bands will also be available on the moodle page.
Oral Skill
The final task involves a group presentation, using everything that has been seen before

Some reading :
Read the two following articles and take some notes. This is valuable information both for your final task and for your general culture.
The article on the Beatles can help you with band creation (name, members, etc)
The article on the origin of Rock’n’Roll gives you some background to one very prominent genre, and therefore make you think about problems that can arise from music

Final Task : Create a band or choose an existing one
in groups of 3 or 4, you will have to :
- Choose between embodying an existing band, or creating a new one using the knowledge you’ve acquired
For Both Choices
- Whether you pick one or the other, you’ll each have to embody one member of the band (If creation : choice of name, short backstory, instrument(s) played)
- Introduce yourselves (band name, members’ names & instruments)
- Short account of the band (type of music played, years active, etc)
If existing band
- Pick two or three albums to talk about (what’s their name, date of release, a few songs inside them)
If created band
- Come up with an original name (you can inspire yourselves from how the Beatles chose their name)
- Come up with one or two invented albums (invent its name, and the name of a few songs inside it. At least one will have to be a concept album, and therefore you will have to explain the story it tells)
You presentation shouldn’t be longer than 10 minutes, you are expected to use a little bit of present perfect
