I did a research fellowship abroad in 2022 <3

I'm having to take an extra year :(

My data analysis skills are super shitty

One paper is under review right now

Written nearly 20k words of my thesis, and writing more

My supervisor is retiring but she'll be around till I submit my thesis

I need to redo some PCR (fucking hell)

staying over at your parents is like. wow I’ve spent some of the worst times of my life here feeling trapped and alone. I’m so glad I don’t live here anymore. I’m so sad I’ll never live in the same house as my siblings ever again. I miss being a child. I miss living with my family. or maybe I miss the concept of a happy family. the idea of something I never truly had. I’ve cried in this bed so many times. things have changed so much. I feel the ghosts of my younger selves in this room still. it’s good to be home.

I’m gathering the pieces to apply for bursaries and one of the requirements is “proof that you presented at the conference.” Which, to be fair, is needed so that they can confirm that you’re not just trying to scam them out of funding. But every time I encounter it, I have the overwhelming urge to have someone take a picture of me doing the Will Smith pose in front of the podium or taking a selfie in the middle of my presentation sending that as proof.

Sooo I submitted my lil bby research article a month ago, and it was rejected because I left in an abbreviation in the abstract (against rules). I missed that somehow and its ok that it got rejected on that basis but oh boy, the editor went on and on about how my abstract was all sloppy so he couldn’t possibly send it to reviewers and other text was “verbose and redundant” and he “couldn’t see the novelty of it” and ok you douche how do you explain all the other published articles in your journal that have similar themes to mine being all verbose and having similarly “sloppy” abstracts and reiterating info that has already been confirmed?

Sorry, this is really petty but I had to let out my frustration somewhere. I’m sad but I guess I have to grow a thicker skin :/
