Is love an emotion? If so, do I feel it?

I don’t feel the same towards everyone I say that to

Is love a mixture of emotions?

Joy, anxiety, fondness, trust, respect, understanding

Does a soup of those form what we call “love”? 

Each soup unique to its relationship, that can each be called “love” despite having different recipes

Is love merely external, actions taken rather than emotions felt?

Who decides what actions are love?

When I say “I love you”

What do I mean?

“You mean the world to me”

“I cannot bear to contemplate losing you”

“This is comfortable and familiar”

“I really like you”

“We have fun together”

“I feel like you understand me in a way no one else does”

“I’d do anything to protect you”

“Your happiness makes me happy”

“I haven’t seen you in a while and I’ve missed you”

“This is our ritual to affirm that we are important to each other and in case something happens before the next phase of the day begins”

“You have always been here and always will be. I can’t imagine my life without you”

“You have changed me” 

“I’m excited/passionate about you” 

“I’m safe with you” 

“We take care of each other” 

“It makes me so happy when you come see me”

“You will always have a home with me”

When I say “I love you”

I mean all these things and more 

Each circumstance I say it in, it means something different

I don’t know if I experience whatever “love” is

My love(?) is aromantic, queer, neurodivergent

Is it the same as yours? 

Is anyone’s the same, really? 

It’s a familiar way to convey these meanings 

“I love you”

But do I?
