Portland Neighborhood Guide, Mississippi Ave    Mississippi is the common name that Portlanders use for the Boise Elliot neighborhood- This is one of the hottest neighborhoods in Portland right now- with trendy shops, cafes and eateries, plus an area of Food Carts serving all types of  different ethnic foods.  The street is full of color and art, and it just draws you in and makes you want to stay and enjoy it.  The streets around Mississippi are full of charming, colorful and historic homes of all sizes and styles, some funky and some gorgeous! The boundaries are not exact, but I would say that the Boise Mississippi area stretches from I 5 on the west, Williams to the east, Alberta to the north and Fremont to the south. Not only does Mississippi have the shops, pubs and restaurants, but  Williams is just a few blocks away, and that is exploding too. Plus this neighborhood is just a few blocks from the Max Light Rail Train on Interstate- there is a footbridge that goes over I-5 to Interstate and the Yellow Line Max stop is right there!
There are shops here in this neighborhood that I love to go do. The Re-Building Center is a non profit community enhancement organization that takes in old windows, hardware, used lumber, doors and other things, and then sells them to homeowners who are restoring their historic homes.  I have bought many different things here. Prices are reasonable, and the selection is amazing from leaded glass windows, to handcrafted doors and windows, to hard to find hardware and other decorations. It is the largest non profit used building material supply store in North America!  They also give classes to kids to teach them the different aspects of building.

If you are interested in learning about Portland, Oregon, it is a wonderful place to live or to visit!  I love it so much, I wrote a huge guide that covers all the little neighborhoods in Portland, as well as all the suburbs between the Coast Range and the Cascade Mountains, with my own take on the area, things I love about it, what to see and do, and why someone would want to live there. It has tons of photos, a unique photo tour collage for each little area, links to parks, trails, festivals, and anything else that makes the neighborhood or suburb special!  The guide is free, with absolutely no ads!  It is my way of sharing all the things that I know and love about Portland and the beauty that surrounds it!  We also give free Portland Neighborhood Tours to people who want to move to Portland.
