how beginners can get into astrology
* i apologize that similar posts have been made before but i desire to include this in the FAQ of my blog and have no intention of copying anyone else.
1. If you haven’t already, calculate your natal chart. Here is my favorite site for beginners. It’s great for people starting out because it comes with interpretations rather than making you figure out what everything means yourself. I also recommend googling any placements that interest you as there is vast information about astrology online. The reason I have this 1st is because in my opinion, it’s extremely helpful to gain more understanding about your own natal chart before moving onto the big stuff.
2. Time to learn more stuff! Start simple, with the 12 zodiac signs. Here’s a user-friendly guide to the signs. But don’t worry about memorizing them yet. Check it out and it’s always a good idea to read about any that apply to one of your planets!
3. Learn about the modes and elements that correlate to each sign! Here’s a good article on modes, here’s one for elements. Once you understand those concepts, it’s much easier to understand why each sign behaves the way it does.
4. Planet time! We have 10 planets in Astrology (including the Sun and Moon, AKA the Luminaries), and each one serves a different purpose in your chart, and each one also connects with a zodiac sign, meaning that sign inevitably expresses some of that planet’s energy. Here’s a very basic article on them, and here’s one that explains it with more detail.
5. So let’s assume by now that you have a basic understanding of the modes, elements, and planets that each sign is tied to. Now I’ll introduce you to the 12th houses. Each one is ruled by a sign as well planet ruled by that sign, which should make it a little easier to understand due to that connection. Every one of your planets falls into one of the 12th houses, which describe the area of life in which you express the planet’s energy! Here’s one very basic article on the houses, here’s a more detailed one.
6. If you can understand those concepts and learn how they apply to you or others, congrats! You have a basic understanding of astrology! If this didn’t do it for you, google is your friend!! You can google any placement, planet, or house that you want to learn more about! ALSO, astro tumblr is pretty great for beginners, it’s a fun and easy way to gain more knowledge. And don’t be afraid to ask astro bloggers questions, as long as you try to figure it out yourself beforehand!
7. Lastly, here are some more web sites for beginners.
- Cafe astrology
- Astro style
- Astro Library
Good luck my friends!

The hardest thing about astrology is acquiring a lexicon to describe placements with. Once you understand the planets and signs you can look at a chart and you know what it means intuitively but putting that into words is the biggest challenge. Being able to articulate this intuitive knowing is like a muscle i need to build and keep on practicing with. I dont know if anybody else feels the same way?

chiron, the wounded healer
Tumblr media
The Chiron in Aries wound relates to your identity. Feeling like you are not worthy, that your qualities are not acknowledged and a fear that you have no value at all- all of these are indicators of an Aries Chiron. This is your silent wound: feeling unworthy and self-neglect, impotence of the self. This results in hypersensitivity to criticism, offended dignity and difficulty in asserting yourself. It also suggests physical abuse, wound, deformity and other issues.
The Chiron in Taurus wound relates to neglect. Feeling like you didn’t get enough of something (emotional, physical, material, mental, spiritual, etc), also expecting to receive more attention than you did, feeling unfulfilled and undernourished in some way- all of these are indicators of a Taurus Chiron. It all comes down to your sense of worth; a kind of void that won’t go away, and even if you try to fill it, you can’t as it seems like a dark hole. This is your silent wound: feeling neglected, in some way or another. Either because people don’t value you as much as you deserve to be; or because you’re expecting too much from them.
The Chiron in Gemini wound relates to a pain of doubting yourself, your ability to communicate clearly and feeling misunderstood. Feeling like you are not capable of speaking effectively, or that no one will listen to you or believe what you have to say- all of these are indicators of a Gemini Chiron. This is your silent wound. Even if you try to cover it up by emphasizing your mental capacities, you are very sensitive (psychologically) to what other people say.
The Chiron in Cancer wound relates to lack of nurture/ love. Feeling like you’ve been abandoned, or like you can’t form strong ties, personal protection and belonging issues, fearing challenges and seeking safety above all- these are indicators of a Cancer Chiron. It’s also very common for people with this placement to feel unworthy of love to some extent, and thus, always give more than what they get.
The Chiron in Leo wound relates to not being able to fully express the things that are within you. Feeling like people don’t give you the chance to shine, having a life that doesn’t stimulate your essence, not being able to feel joy at its fullest, not believing in your abilities, and not being recognized for your gifts and talents - all of these are indicators of a Leo Chiron. It all comes down to your self-expression; and this is your silent wound: lack of self-expression and hurting ego, in some way or another. Either because people don’t let you be yourself; they overlook your talents; or because you for some reason feel like you shouldn’t express yourself.
The Chiron in Virgo wound relates to compulsive behaviors fueled by perfectionism. Feeling like you can never do something perfectly, or that you are not good enough are indicators of this placement. It suggests anxiety, pressure and stress issues, uncontrollable urge to control everything around you/yourself as much as possible. Self-doubt is very common- you’re too critical at times. Your silent wound is the need to fix in order to make thing perfect.
The Chiron in Libra wound relates to hurtful relationships. Feeling like you trust the wrong people, getting hurt over and over, getting caught in a co-dependent relationship, unrequited love- all of these are indicators of a Libra Chiron. You may feel like people in general keep disappointing you, or maybe you feel like it’s you who are disappointing them. This is your silent wound: hurt when it comes to relationships. Either because they’re abusive or play with your feelings, or because they’ve made you cold and you don’t know how to trust anymore.
The Chiron in Scorpio wound relates to fear. It can have many manifestations, depending on which house it is placed: fear of loss, of the unknown, of persecution, confrontation, death or ever change. As Scorpio is also the sign of ‘power’, this position brings about many power issues, such as you being drawn to dangerous situations to feel empowered, or constant feeling like you’re out of control.
The Chiron in Sagittarius wound relates to feeling confined in a mundane existence. Wanting to break traditions or spiritual teachings, feeling like they have no deep wisdom, feeling like they can’t achieve glory, searching for the truth desperately - all of these are indicators of a Sagittarius Chiron. This is your silent wound:  a desperate need to find meaning, in some way or another. It’s common for people with Chiron in Sagittarius to feel like they are an eagle inside, but are tied and cannot fly. There’s a lingering fear that you can never be glorious or live life like an adventure.
The Chiron in Capricorn wound relates to not being recognized. Feeling like you are not heard, that your efforts are not acknowledged and a fear that no one will listen to you and recognize your value- all of these are indicators of a Capricorn Chiron. It all comes down to how you’re seen regarding your potential. This is your silent wound: feeling underappreciated, in some way or another. Even if people recognize what you have to offer, in your own mind there’s always a deep-rooted fear of failing people, not doing your best at something or not succeeding, which would imply an identity crisis.
The Chiron in Aquarius wound relates to feeling different. Social rejection, fear of large groups of people, a need to withdraw from the public- all of these are indicators of an Aquarius Chiron. You may feel like you don’t belong, or you don’t share the same interests with the people around you, so you feel alone, isolated. This is your silent wound: not fitting in, somehow. Either because you’re disconnected from the world, or because you feel like the world disappoints you.
The Chiron in Pisces wound relates to the pain of disconnection. Feeling like you’re not “whole”, you’re not who you’re supposed to be, or that you can’t come to terms with higher forces or even with humanity in general- all of these are indicators of a Pisces Chiron. You can lack faith in yourself, in others and in the universe. You may feel like you can’t quite understand how the world works, like you know God works in mysterious ways but you can’t fully accept this. You don’t trust your ability to survive.

GW pilots and astrology 1/2
Disclaimer : It’s been a while since I’ve watched Gundam Wing so my interpretations will certainly be flawded and fanon influenced. Feel free to speak your mind about the placements!! I also know that since the boys are born in space, their real natal chart would be very different from ours. I obviously disregarded that fact and made this post as if they were born on Earth, like the rest of us. Unless stated, the mercury sign is the same as the sun sign.
Heero yuy — Scorpio Rising, Aquarius Sun, Capricorn Moon, Capricorn Mercury, Aquarius Mars
Tumblr media
Scorpio rising - Everyone agrees with the fact that Scorpio rising’s most special trait is their eyes. There is something about them, they are intense, all knowing, dark. And in the show there is something about Heero’s eyes. Remember the openings? How emphasized his eyes are? Scorpio rising are also known for having a ‘resting bitch face’. This rising is very weary of others and they like to control their identity, how they present themselves to the world because they can’t trust other people, they know what they are capable of so they need to protect themselves.
Aquarius Sun - This was the most difficult placement for me! I finally chose Aquarius sun for different reasons. First, I think Heero has a strong Saturn dominance. Duty and responsibilities are a big thing for Saturn dominant as they needed to grow up very quickly. Aquarius is known for its eccentricity and its need to stand out, yes. But Aquarius is also the sister sign of Leo, meaning Aquarius is the sign who has the weakest ego in the zodiac. (Life is cheap, especially mine) Aquarius, along with Virgo, is the most likely to sacrifice itself for a mission. Guess what? Heero was never afraid to do that! I also thing the tension within the sign (individuality vs weak ego) illustrates Heero as he grows and learns he’s more than a soldier and a pawn in the war.
Capricorn Moon - This is the reason why Heero is called the perfect soldier imo. Capricorn moons, just like Scorpio risings, are very weary of others. They see people who want to know them as threats and they try to sterilize their emotions so they won’t get in the way of their rational thinking and the pursuit of their goals. During the show we can see Heero opening more, step by step. Though Cap moons like to deal with their shit on their own, they are really good at taking care of others. They are nurturing, but in a stern way. Capricorn moons are called ‘emotionally constipated’ because they won’t tell you they care about you directly. Show, don’t tell is kinda the Capricorn moon leitmotiv.
Aquarius Mars - They are stubborn but value freedom and individuality. Aqua mars are the type who let people live the way they want. Free will is very important for him, they won’t force people to do stuff (like quatre with the zero system). Aquarius is a fixed sign, meaning Aquarius mars are resourceful. They also are very good at mind games and they like to think outside the box/do the unexpected (Heero was trained to follow orders but also to be ready for anything)
There's nothing wrong with acting on your emotions. At least, that's what I was told. — in french, the translation is “to live a good life is to act on your emotions” Because of that line, I think Heero’s moon and mars are in a very tight conjunction, making him very hard to dissociate his drive to his feelings, they are tied together and nurture each other.
Capricorn Mercury - I didn’t want to explain why I chose mercury placements but Heero’s sense of humour? Just like Cap mercury’s : dry, whacky and overlooked. (ahhh his cray laughs...)
Duo Maxwell — Gemini rising, Sagittarius Sun, Scorpio Moon, Virgo Mars
Tumblr media
Gemini Rising - They are friendly, they are restless. They don’t like boredom and need to be constantly stimulated. But the other reason why I chose this placement for Duo is because Gemini rising is also called the Orphan rising because they often have tough and difficult childhood. They love to explore and shock value. They will say taboo things only to see your reactions. Like Scorpio rising they tend to control their identity : it’s a Gemini thing to display only a part of yourself. The other reason and it’s something that will occur in the other placements is speed. The Gemini rising is very fast, especially at thinking hence why they need to be stimulated.
Sagittarius Sun - Again, it was hard for me to come up with this placement. I still think that a Taurus Sun (in the 12th) could work here. Sag suns are funny, social and their motto is work hard and play harder (but also play then work). Sagittarius won’t work unless they need it. They want to enjoy life. (Reminds me of that basketball scene when Duo tells to Heero to relax, they will accomplish the mission like asked). They also like to explore and to learn and they learn from experience (kinda fits the street smart behavior). Duo’s sun is his 7th house : he will have trouble to find his sense of individuality and he’s searching himself in others, being himself alone doesn’t make a lot of sense for him.
Scorpio Moon - It’s kinda his Shinigami placement haha. Scorpio moons are very dark and deep, they feel emotions intensely and they have trouble to open up. They are really intense and one of their greatest fear is to be controlled. In my opinion this placement also matches with Duo’s MS : Desthscythe and his combat style : he’s very close to people he kills → close to death. Scorpio is the sign of death and rebirth and change: scorpio moons are known for destroying things and people (themselves and others). Honestly I don’t know if the very dark and deep side of Duo is canon or fanon but nevertheless I think it’s not wrong to say Duo is close to death because of his combat style and because he witnessed it very early.
Virgo Mars - They can be a bit scattered but they have their eye on the goal. Their approach is logical and rational. They are often skillful (speed+skill = heero telling duo he’s the best at piloting). They’re not very aggressive but they have this nervous energy so they don’t like to spend too much time on a project, they like things to be done.

things to check if you don’t relate to a placement
over the almost 3 years that i’ve had this blog, the question i’ve gotten the most is “why don’t i relate to ____ in my chart?” well, if you don’t relate to a placement, i recommend doing the following!
read different interpretations. google the placement, and read different opinions and posts on it. go deeper, go in depth, delve deeper than the surface or broad descriptions. different astrologers interpret placements differently, bringing new or different opinions and information. you may find that you relate to a different interpretation, and find new information that makes you relate to it more or makes it more personal. go deeper than the surface of a placement, there is more to each house and placement than you think!
check the degrees. if it is in the earlier degree (0) you may feel those traits strongly or feel the rawest energy from that sign. it could be in a critical degree, which you can read about here (post made by @yourandmyworldthings)
along with degrees, check the decan of the placement. a decan is based on degrees, and there are 3 decans split by degrees. 0-10 degrees is first decan, 11-20 degrees is second decan, 21-30 degrees is third decan. the different decans have influences from a sign and planet. for example, a scorpio rising in 2nd decan is ruled by pisces/neptune, and will have influence from that. that can make quite a difference!
check the house it’s in. the house a placement is in is where and how we express the energies of the planet/sign. it shows what areas we express those energies in or how we generally express those traits
check the aspects to the placement. aspects are the relationships between the planets. there will be influence from the relationships between those planets, it can influence the energy of the placement and bring new traits from the energies the planets have between each other. aspects with tighter orbs (lower degrees, usually lower than 5) are more relatable and influential for you.
you may have just not have seen or met that part of yourself yet. you may have not recognized that behavior in yourself yet, or haven’t seen it action. or maybe its subconscious and you haven’t noticed that about yourself before. especially if it has neptune/pisces/12th house influence! but look deep inside yourself, or pay more attention to your behavior and see if you notice anything new.
check your other placements. there could be influence from them as well! for example, if you have a mutable sun but a fixed moon, you may be more stubborn with emotions but have a more easygoing personality. there could be combinations from different parts of your chart, as they all go and flow together. make those connections and see how they flow together!
don’t ignore the negative or “bad” traits. people say they don’t relate to a placement because they are only focusing on the negatives, or don’t want to admit to the negative side of it. we are human, we have flaws, mistakes, and problems. no one is perfect. but don’t ignore the bad, learn about it and learn from it. grow from it, use it to turn into good or to turn it into something useful. get to know that part of yourself so you can grow and learn. recognize it within yourself and then learn.
i’ll add more as i remember them, but this is what i’ve got so far!

What do you think about Cancer Sun, Leo moon & Sag rising?? Probs a train wreck but 👀
I think I would like them!!I think they could feel entitled sometimes but I also think they could be very brave. I often associate Cancer with bravery because they’re the most open but also approachable water sign (scorpio has trust issues, pisces can be too confusing sometimes) who’s not afraid to show and express their emotions, they’re not afraid to show your their vulnerability. Thats why ppl call them crybabies because they’re not scared to express their mood swings. Also Leo Moon add something noble to that. Like all placements it can be challenging, the drama of the leo moon combined with the unstability of the cancer sun can make them very temperamental, maybe selfish too! Emotions and the need of attention can be very intense…
But I think they could do good activist artist, the sun fights, the moon create and the rising explore and try to learn from its experiences.

omg, okay, what do you think of capricorn sun, scorpio moon, and aquarius rising? 💘✨
“In case you haven’t noticed, I’m weird. I’m a weirdo. I don’t fit in. And I don’t want to fit in. Have you ever seen me without this stupid hat on? That’s weird.”
this quote reminds me of them like aqua rising stands out of the crowd and they want to, they love originality and they want and like novelty, they’re eccentric. scorpio moon, oh boi. feels very deeply so deeply they could drown themselves in their emotions. so intense! still manipulative, weary but loyal af and very passionate too.capricorn sun well capricorns are often misunderstood and they are often viewed as the boring working hard sign who doesn’t like you, they’re not the best at showing their emotions but they truly are sweethearts
tbh i will have a hard time to understand them, but i feel like i won’t be the only one. scorpio, aquarius and capricorn are misunderstood
