more backwards thoughts:

freja starts the war with access to armor, but when pong krell starts wanting her dead he meddles with requisitions just enough to ensure she never gets hers repaired or replaced in a convenient time-frame

he also messes with her comms, especially if she's trying to get a hold of the jedi council in order to submit complaints about her own master. :) his sabotage of the comm relay on umbara was incidentally well rehearsed.

and as a result of her trying to rat on him, about five or six months before umbara, krell wounds freja during a training exercise and she walks away with a lovely lightsaber scar over her collarbone and sternum. krell tries to play it off as an accident but they both know it was a threat.

pong krell passive-aggressively refers to freja as padawan instead of commander, and she passive-aggressively refers to him as master instead of general. this happens at least once on umbara. #petty

just as well i suppose since i was going to change it but now i feel crazy. perhaps i only dreamed about writing... but the one with freja's relationship with krell made it through. hrm.

anyway. freja still dies on umbara but i'm moving it to the fight with krell instead of her being executed as a traitor. the pacing is better this way because how do you like. go from MASTER JEDI PUTS HIS PADAWAN DOWN LIKE A DOG to "jedi business. go back to your drinks". there's no payoff. but if freja dies fighting krell it makes more sense in terms of story beats and also freja wants to kick him in the teeth at least once (she does).

there's a lot of gratuitous clone murdering that krell does in this fight, canonically, so i'd just replace that with a flashy lightsaber duel where freja has to protect both herself and the troopers trying to capture krell. i am completely working backwards here so i should mention freja's been trained in jar'kai and uses a split double-bladed lightsaber; there's no real info on what form krell uses outside of jar'kai which isn't really an actual form itself... so my guess is something aggressive like ataru. freja's training would reflect this and if you think dual-wielding and ataru wouldn't suit her, you'd be correct. during the fight krell destroys one of her lightsabers and she actually has an easier time keeping up, but ultimately still dies in the end.

i'm contemplating what krell would have to say to freja here. he does his comically evil voice-from-the-shadows taunting to the troopers but i think it would be an interesting contrast if he didn't really speak to freja--they still have a training bond, decayed into something worse perhaps, but they're tethered to each other and whatever it is, they can both feel it. (it's loathing. that's not a secret.)

i DO have a lot to say about the catch-22 nature of freja and pong krell's master-padawan relationship but i don't have the brain power to make it comprehensible. mostly its that krell can't knight her because of his accumulated resentment & genuinely views her as a failure of a student, can't drop her because it would damage his ego--he'd ALSO be a failure, and a quitter on top of that--so he's trapped and he's pissed that he's trapped and sabotages any of freja's meager attempts to get out, because the only thing worse than willingly giving up on your duties as a master would be to have your own student reject you. insanity. does this make sense? i'm trying to pin down krell's specific flavor of neuroticism and the kind of 'i have to WIN' mentality that would make him try to defect to the separatists.

freja’s first force premonition/bird omen jumpscare happens when kenobi touches down on kamino. freja panics a little and assumes she’s hallucinating since she doesnt have any prior history of visions and quite frankly that’s just not where her mind goes when a flock of birds appears and disappears before her very eyes. once is happenstance...

the second vision comes a few seconds before she gets a comm from the council saying that she’s been conscripted. twice is a coincidence

the third happens when the battle of geonosis kicks off. three times is a pattern.

freja just starts to assume that the force has decided to notify her any time something bad has happened and tries to ignore it, but people absolutely notice when it catches her off-guard and she flinches

fives asks about it once and freja just straight up tells him that she thinks the force is making her hallucinate birds and he’s like ‘oh cool at least you like birds right’ because he doesn’t know how to handle that

“what kind of birds are they?” fives asks, innocent and naive, unaware of the infodump lurking around the corner. freja responds, “coruscanti crows or something, they’re flying so it’s kind of hard to tell. they’re not originally native to coruscant but were introduced from chandrila millennia ago, though for a while this information was lost-” and she doesnt stop for another 10 minutes.

places freja has lived (in consecutive order): corellia --> coruscant --> explorcorps spaceship --> mycroft --> various military posts throughout the galaxy --> coruscant again

and then wherever from there. havent decided yet

definitely a city kid. hates it. the wilderness also kind of sucks sometimes but she refuses to complain because then she’d be a stereotype

same father as qi’ra, who freja has like 10-15 years on? don’t quote me on that number. anyway they come close a few times but never actually meet. freja’s mom is deadzo for sure

almost kind of friends with aayla as a kid. they weren’t close, but when freja's not being a raging bitch about the whole Jedi Thing, she remembers aayla fondly
