Review- Glee Pilot
IMDB Rating: 8.6/10
Ponyboy's Rating: 8.5/10
Kelvin's Rating: 7/10
Ponyboy's Thoughts: Honestly, within the first five minutes, I disliked the cheerleaders. The coach, Sue, is a snobby braggart and is way too hard on the team. I also don't really like Schuester's wife, Terry. She's demanding and controlling. I don't think it was fair for her to try to get Schuester to switch jobs when he's passionate about what he's doing. After all, "the only life worth living is one you're really passionate about." Enough with the negatives, let's move on to what I did like. Right off the bat, I like how they aren't afraid to have gay characters. I'm a huge supporter of gay rights, and I love how they have characters like Rachel's dads, Sandy, and Kurt. I also liked how it really focused on real life issues, such as people being too afraid of being considered a loser to pursue their passion, or the bullying problem with the jocks. Like Rachel says, "you can't keep worrying about what people think." I liked how it incorporated songs and singing without it being unrealistic, like in musicals. The characters are singing, but for a reason. In conclusion, although several characters were full of themselves, and there were some minor things I didn't like, it was an excellent show overall. I will end up watching the rest at some point.
Kelvin's Thoughts: I really liked the acting in the show, they really threw themselves into the part. The talent was wonderful, for both the singing and the acting. The choreography was unbelievably good. I also liked the diversity of the characters. In the glee club there are 3 guys and 3 girls; an equal representation of both genders. There are people from different ethnic origins (and I'm not trying to be racist, just saying the facts). In the glee club there are Caucasians, Asians and black people. There are skinny people and some that are more obese. There is also a disabled guy in a wheelchair. So like I said before, the glee club is very diverse. I also recognized actors/actresses that I am fond of in Glee such as; Jayma Mays (Emma Pillsbury), Cory Monteith(Finn Hudson) and Iqbal Theba(Principal Figgins). Everything was good except for the plot... or so I thought. While I was making notes I kept writing negative stuff about the plot. I thought that this show had neither action nor did it move me however that changed with the last song. The last song showed how a disorganized not-so-great group of students can perform a really great song and show that they can do this, that they can win the competition. Though the plot was really slow I am going to watch more of glee (as this was my first time watching it).
