Welcome to San Francisco. I'll be your coffee guide today! Before we start biking does anyone need to use the bathroom? It's ok I do too.

top picks in sf for budget stuff
1) Crossroads Trading
Crossroads is nice because they pre-sort donations pretty hard. This means that you’ll be unlikely to score $10 Common Projects, but in general the items will be of higher quality and better brands. They also put older stock on 50% discount, which means that you can often find some good, but overlooked things at bargain prices (men’s stuff in the women’s section, converse 70s vs regular converse). The best thing about Crossroads though is that the staff regularly undervalues things that are not super hyped. For example, wtaps vans ($30, resold for $300), dsptch daypack ($25)
Locations: I think the Haight St location generally has goods that can be way underpriced, but the Market St location has a larger selection.
2) Out of the Closet
Out of the Closet does not sort their stuff nearly as well, but the number of undervalued things greatly exceeds Crossroads. So you’ll need to spend more time browsing through crap to find the good stuff. The prices are always good. I’ve found plenty of good stuff, including iron hearts ($30), APCs ($20), robert geller ($15), warby parker sunglasses x3 ($10/pair), goretex jackets ($30), new lange ski boots ($30).
Locations: I think the Polk St Location generally has the best stuff, but I haven’t been to other locations as frequently.
3) Goodwill:
Goodwill is not organized at all. When you go to any location, it’s like rolling the dice completely. Goodwill is where I’d go for:
a) weird vintage stuff
b) uniqlo jackets / pants
4) Facebook Marketplace
Mostly used for furniture, but if you know what you’re looking you can often snag good gear at low prices. I don’t think I’ve ever encountered clothes worth buying on this here though. Examples: Mission Workshop Rummy ($25), Chrome night series ($15), Rawrow bag ($15), our legacy sneakers ($30)

apc pns ($20 @ out of the closet)
adidas bw army ($30 somewhere in LA)
robert geller dip dye sweatshirts were also a hype thing at some point, i think it died out pretty quickly though. kind of a weird fitting sweater, the back is all linen and front is all wool.

“same shit different day”
specs:
isaora digital sky shell ($150 @ grailed)
replica veilance ($30)
replica ub 2.0 ($60)
this jacket was one of the first things i bought from grailed in 2015. everything about it awesome (waterproof, pitzips, extremely lightweight), except that the phone pocket is designed to hold an iphone 4, not a cellphone from 2020.

“wannabe techwear kid 2015”
specs:
nau ($30 @ ... some thrift store)
hm
isaora ($50 @ grailed)
flyknit racers ($30 @ crossroads)
these isaora pants were my first techwear-ish purchase and they are still some of my favorite pants. i fell off of a bicycle wearing them and tore a huge hole in the knee, but managed to patch them up. i feel like the techwear look is less popular now because technical looking clothing is widely available, but sometimes you gotta pretend like you’re gonna parkour off rooftops at sunset.

specs:
rag bone ($20 @ recycle boutique - shout out the freedom discount in aus)
uniqlo
replica veilance ($30)
replica ub 2.0 ($60)
i’m not sure when i started looking into reps, but i don’t really feel the same about them anymore. it’s more fun to try to hunt for deals instead of cheating and potentially funding some dark money operation. still appreciate the clothes though.

i think the engineered garments hype has made me appreciate japanese streetwear more, but i’m not too convinced about filling your wardrobe with it.
