Tayjha Deleveaux, 16, sparked a movement called #supportthepuff after getting chastised at school for natural hair.

Tayjha Deleveaux is a student at the CR Walker Senior High School in the Bahamas. Earlier this month, she went to school with an “Afro puff” that made administrators threaten punishment if she did not “clean” up her “untidy” hairstyle.

According to principal T. Nicola McKay, she was trying to clamp down on students wearing their hair in a way that

 “looks like it would not have been combed for days.”

The controversy has inspired the hashtag #supportthepuff, as other naturalistas embrace their beauty and show off their hair in solidarity. 

“Black women through the course of history have been told that their hair is unworthy and were made to chemically straighten, hot comb or cover their kinky crowns. In order to be seen as beautiful, many women of African descent were told unapologetically that their hair was not beautiful in any other form.” -  An online petition to #supportthepuff

I support the puff, because it is what naturally grows out our heads. The Eurocentric concept of beauty is destroying the world: Asians cutting their eyes; black women risking fibroids through relaxers to achieve this standard of beauty. Stop the madness and love what your creator gave you. #Love it!

The best comic writer of my generation is Kieron Gillen @kierongillen and @graphicpolicy got to interview him yesterday on our podcast. We talked in depth about The Wicked + The Divine, Phonogram, Angela: Asgard’s Assassin and his upcoming work like Ludocrats and a comic he described as “Pokemon meets Mad Max in the style of the Fast and the Furious.”

We’re definitely getting an 1830 WicDiv pantheon soon featuring Mary Shelly, Byron, Keats, Blake! Possibly an Arthurian one and one in Rome. Maybe a 1920′s “Agatha Christie take on the modernist gods”.

I highly recommend, if you are on the fence about the Cassandra Clare case. You read this court document.

The fact that you can put each character and plot point next to each other and they are the exact same. Says something. I didn’t think they were going to have much of a case. But when it’s this similar. Down to a rebellious sister whose cooking is mocked. I have no sympathy for CC and I will no longer be supporting her books/shows/endeavors.

There is no shame in admitting when you are wrong. There is no shame in realizing a mistake and trying to fix it. I don’t know why everyone is too prideful to acknowledge problematic behavior, apologize and try to fix it but there is no room to grow unless you do that. You are never going to grow into the beautiful, intelligent, caring and mindful person you want yourself to be until you start acknowledging what’s holding you back from that.
