i found a strange livestream of an egg attached to a stick, rotating in place above a bowl of yolks. on the left and right was a needle and a small metal ball on a stick. specific amounts of donations would trigger the needle or "hammer" to strike the egg automatically. serene piano music, and distant birds chirping play in the background.

periodically, as the egg would break, a hand would come on screen to replace it.

right as i went for the screen recording it ended.

i find this new phenomenon of hyper specific livestream busking fascinating. a strange reward for a small fee. imagining an analogue equivalent of these sorts of streams makes me think of an eccentric vending machine museum. put a coin in and contribute to the egg being slowly pulverized.

Thinking back, we already know exactly who Momo is by the first episode. She's brilliantly introduced.

Her first boyfriend is identical to her biggest fictional crush -- but she knows looks are less important than who someone is, and she refuses to be treated badly and trade herself in for someone who is only a shallow resemblance.

She might look like a vapid high school kid whining about relationships in the classroom, but this was her first relationship. She's going through something painful and confusing, and her friends brush it off (they're right, they tried to tell her).

But when she's dragging herself through the halls, thinking about her problems and trying to cope with her feelings, she stops when she sees a guy getting bullied in his own class.

Not only is she not too jaded and self-absorbed to help, but she does it in a way that shows she thinks on her feet, and she's kind to him, which further shows that it isn't just about her hatred for cruel jocks, it's about her heart towards other people.

When she leaves his class, yes, she snaps at him, but it's because she doesn't understand his neurology and resulting behavior. In her mind, he's just an otaku, potentially a pervert, he "knows" he's annoying and clinging and doesn't care about her feelings. She does have that human moment where she isn't self-aware and adult (even older people have these moments), but when she sees that this isn't his intention and that her reaction was outsized, she apologizes.

Then, when they're having their first ghosts vs aliens tussle, her friends note that it's, "like she doesn't care what anyone thinks," and they, "don't hate it."

Why?

Because she chooses her friends well. They're non-conformists. They don't sacrifice themselves for popularity, like Aira does. They're more secure in who they are and what they want, and more concerned with what really matters, like Momo.

If she wasn't, she'd have refused to be friends with them, anyway.

And I think when Okarun says, "someone like you," or, "a friend like her," he says this knowing all of this in the way neurodivergent people always do, because like all neurodivergent people, his powers of perception are enormous.

He doesn't mean, "a pretty, popular girl."

He means, "a genuinely good person."
