Pokémon Ecological Adaptation Professor, Primm
188 posts
Hello, and welcome to the official page of the Pokémon Ecological Adaptation Study! We (well, just me and my team so far) here at P.E.A.S. (I know, the name's not great) are dedicated to studying how different Pokémon are adapted to and even shape the landscape and habitat of the environments they call home. My name is Primm, and I run the place! they/them 49 years young

They do this by grinding their teeth together. It's a behaviour they do when they're happy!
rodent pkmn so interesting to me
like, for one, the pkmn under the rat category
they really just bulge their eyes out of their heads sometimes

Hehehe... She is, technically speaking, my team 'cleric.' She can use Recover, Rest and Pain Split, and she can swap out between a few weather affecting moves.
Outside of her slightly lowered natural protection, Gastrodons are still very very beefy, in terms of defence. She mostly gets into trouble trying to befriend every wild pokémon I encounter on my expeditions, even to her detriment.
She's also chronically unlucky, clumsy, and very prone to Predicaments...
But as for a steady job she does often? Well. She's more of a cog in the larger gearwork of the team.
She's especially helpful when I'm exploring marine environments; I myself am missing both legs and can't get the hang of the flipper attachments to my prosthetics. So, when I'm doing reef studies, I just slap on a rebreather and wrap my hands around her neck, and she'll drag me around across the seafloor.
You're a professor specialising in genetic conditions (among other things), yes?
I thought you might be interested to learn about my Gastrodon, Moran. I rescued her as a Shellos from a reef that had experienced an oil tanker spill, and was quick to discover that she was affected very acutely. More so than most of her peers in the area.
I came to discover that she lacked the protective membrane of mucus that most Gastrodon have. Instead, her squishy flesh is just porous and open to the world.
Come to find she has a genetic mutation that causes the glands that would produce said mucus to instead just grow odd crumbly keratinous cysts.
To prevent constant invasive treatment, her glands were injected with a solution that basically solidified them and stopped their function.
Now, after recovering from the spill, her only real symptoms are being very dry and even weaker to fire types than the standard.
Thought you might find that interesting.
Oh, wow! Sorry, for the delay in response, but that IS quite fascinating. Have you noticed any other symptoms? And that poor dear, those cysts must have been awful. I’m glad she was able to get some kind of relief. Have you been able to find any way to protect her skin? None of my ‘mons have that specific problem, but a couple, like my eevee Joan, have sores and I have to use Vaporine to protect their skin and things

The biggest challenge is that her flesh is very absorbent without the membrane to protect her, any product used to help her moisturize has to be benign enough that it won't cause harm if it leeches into her system...
I've found that a dilute non-toxic silicone jelly works well, outside of just making sure she's regularly soaked in clean water. Vaseline would be ideal, but unfortunately after the oil spill she developed an insensitivity to petroleum based products.
Other than all that, she has an odd calcium deficiency that some doctors think might be another result of whatever genetic defect she has. She gets supplements for that though.

Every vaguely professional person who has worked with him has an Incident story to tell, or to try to forget.
Mine's the Weavile Incident. Still feel a chill down my spine every time I remember...
This is your semi-regular reminder that Professor Birch is an unprofessional, unskilled, unintelligent, negligent, fraudulent ASS.
Professor Bitch, if you're reading this I want my finger back and I'm only Slightly drunk. Also fuck you.

[Photo of a hand with the ring finger missing, the stump covered by a thimble.]
Negligence.
(he also isn't even a good bloody scientist, his papers are hot garbage)

what did professor birch do??
[Picture of a hand with a thimble covering the stump of a severed ring finger.]
I told him Ice Types would attack me. But noooooo. I was just a student. I was just being paranoid.
Obviously young Research Assistant Birch, in all his experience and wisdom, knows that it's perfectly safe to send a student under his care for work experience into a Weavile nest!
They definitely won't have their eyelids frozen off and their finger severed and frostbitten! Perish the thought!!!
...
They managed to surgically restore my eyelids, but the finger was necrotic already. I was 36 by the time I started my actual education, and early on I was sent out to get some research experience with a post-grad.
Birch was said post-grad, a research assistant working on his final dissertation to become a professor. Younger than me, but more experience in the field.
...
I hate him.

Tactful in excessive capitalisation, that's for sure.
I Wouldn't Let My Hair Touch The Floor Like That, I Braid It For A Reason.
Secondly, I Am Tactful In My Excessiveness, Any Time I Gloat, I Make Sure It's Of My Own Prowess.
ive had this in my askbox for the last 4 days because I got too tired to actually think up a proper response to it when he sent this. So now I'm posting this just to make fun of it.
anyways everyone point and laugh at my rival who is "Tactful In His Excessiveness"

Hmm, I ran away from Aether House when I was young and lived in the ruins of Tapu until I was 18, so that probably counts as living in the woods.
I did eventually move back to Alola, but I'd say the second one counts as well.
The third one is also technically accurate, I used to battle but I don't anymore.
Nope on number 4 and 5.
6 is a yes, I also write them for fun.
7, 8 and 9 are a no-go.
And technically I've been pet by a legendary... I fell into Regigigas' hand and it let me down safely, so I'd count that for number 10.
In conclusion, this poll wasn't nearly ultra-specific enough. I'll need full paragraphs of strange coincidences for the next one.
Maybe I should try this as an ice breaker?

Had an idea but don't want to disrupt anything or upset anyone so-
RB this if you're okay with getting evil team/crime organisations propaganda* in your inbox
*Misleading by nature, attempting to get the person behind the account to join the organisation, often coming off as cult-ish <- the ones I plan on sending is both from an evil team and cult so please keep this in mind, I do not want to trigger anyone.

Probably when worship of Arceus and the Space-Time-Entropy trio got popular worldwide. Them in particular are almost undeniably deific, even if you don't worship them. The association in the terminology of them being labelled Legendaries seems to have spread back out from them.
I wonder when the phrase "legendary Pokémon" shifted from meaning "Pokémon which play a role in legends" to being used as a synonym for "deities."
I also wonder how many of you know Arcanine's official designation in the Pokédex...

I'm super late to the nickname game, but I reckon Northstar is a good one, considering.
That or maybe Ursa, or even Kyno, short for Cynosaura, which means Dog's Tail, and was another name for Ursa Minor, the constellation with Polaris in it...
...I'm always full of thematic naming energy, my team are all named after old Alolan famous Mafia members. It was an inside joke, Tilly was named because, well, Honchkrow, and the rest all follow her around like little gangsters, so I started a tradition.
mm
Northstar isnt bad

//ooc reblog!
//my Pokémon, both on my blogs and in games, are always named on either a team theme, or in theme with the specific Pokémon species.
//like, Watson was one of the first supercomputers, so I named my Metagross in Platinum Watson.
//I named Primms Pokémon with a team theme, after Australian criminals. Tilly is named after Tilly Devine, and so on...

I think you might be being a little paranoid here. Most people don't even know about silvervine, let alone that it's a species of kiwi. It's probably just because it's small, fuzzy and brown, with green eyes.
Pellipper Mail! Or... Hmm, actually, this kinda just appeared when you weren't looking...
It's a wicker picnic basket lined with soft white and mint-green checker board linen. Inside it, to your surprise, is a very very young Eevee.
You aren't a veterinarian, but this Eevee seems a little odd. It doesn't have a bellybutton of any kind, just a smooth belly with slightly scratchy brown fuzz. (Not to go into too much detail, but it might be intersex, it's a bit hard to judge...)
It's still quite small, but it's old enough to have it's eye colour, a deep green with black specks. A little card lays against it, reading:
'My name is Kiwi <3'
Tumblr media
I- oh!
hello precious, where did you come from…?
Kiwi…..hmm….

[Response attached]
Hello, Paris, good to hear from you! I'm afraid to say however, that I've had quite a lot of trouble with Ice Types in the past, so I haven't done nearly as much research into them as perhaps you might have hoped...
I'm happy to contact some colleagues, however, if you really need it.
//I don't know that our characters are close enough at all to be phone chatting, but who knows?
"Please leave a message after the tone"
(A voicemail is attached.)
"Hey, Mx- can I call you that- Mx. Primm, uh... Yeah, I just had a question, it's about Froslass and uh, whole buncha stuff, I can give an explanation later I guess- it's too long for a voicemail...
Call me back when you can. Thank you."
