Replacing the Dallas 1287 realtime clock module in my Commodore PC40-III with a modern version from Glitchworks that includes a replaceable battery. I also added in a socket, as Commodore should have 35+ years ago. If the Dallas chip is dead on one of these, it will forget the BIOS configuration between reboots, even if power is maintained to the system. That means it won't forget just the time, but also what addresses are for each port, and what type each floppy drive is.
