We recently received our first delivery from the outstanding Inventory Magazine. The 12th issue is now in stock.
Tumblr media
Inventory was established in 2009 as an online platform and biannual publication to explore the aesthetic and cultural interests of its founders. By offering a unique and global perspective on design, craftsmanship and culture, both forgo the temporariness of trend to focus on the brands, designers and artists whose bodies of work reflect a commitment to quality, and a desire for innovation. Working with established and emerging photographers, stylists and writers, the magazine places equal emphasis on accomplished journalism and beautiful imagery, and seeks to represent contemporary icons alongside future influencers. The cover of the Spring-Summer ’15 issue, shot by Tim Barber, features American artist and designer, Erik Brunetti. The twelfth edition of Inventory also includes Adam Silverman, Scott Sternberg, George Nakashima and Arthur Erickson; a selection of seasonal fashion stories; and contributions by JIMA, Lina Scheynius, James Hoff, Katherine Clary and Ricky Swallow.

GALLERY VISIT: SLAM SECTION AT STEINSLAND BERLINER
10.05.15
Stockholm gallery Steinsland Berliner recently invited artist and actor Leo Fitzpatrick to curate the group exhibition Slam Section. Leo, along with the artists featured in the show have had a massive influence on us growing up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Words by Steinsland Berliner:
Introducing the East Coast art scene to Stockholm’s Gallery Steinsland Berliner, Leo Fitzpatrick has crossed the Atlantic and curated his friends for a show, called SLAM SECTION. Bringing with him works from the likes of Dave Sandey of Fuck This Life, the late great Dash Snow, Mark Gonzales, Richard Kern and many others, SLAM SECTION is bound to give the Swedish scene a greater insight into the workings and characteristics of New York’s blossoming art scene over a stretch of several decades. Amongst others, one of Norway’s most aspiring artists is featured in the form of Gardar Eine Einarsson alongside the talented, colorful Eddie Martinez and iconic skateboard photographer, Tobin Yelland. The exhibition is an homage to the DIY-generation that blossomed throughout the 70’s and has experienced a revival in the more recent years. No titles, no restrictions and no rules. SLAM SECTION, curated by Leo Fitzpatrick, will include works from the following artists:
Chris Johanson, Eddie Martinez, Josh Smith, Dave Sandey, B Thom Stevenson, Dash Snow, Richard Kern, Justin Adian, Sadie Laska, Tobin Yelland, Joe Roberts, Gardar Eide Einarsson, Mark Gonzales, Brian DeGraw, Will Boone, Daniel Johnston, Lizzi Bougatsos, Jerry Hsu, Cali Thornwill DeWitt, Neckface, Mark Flood, Ray Johnson
Leo Fitzpatrick explains his thoughts behind the show (via Steinsland Berliner):
“When I was younger, skateboarding dictated the direction each day would take and at night, I would sit in front of the TV watching skateboard videos, completely in awe of the look, with regards to the visuals, sounds and lifestyle that these videos projects. I was too small and had not enough talent to imitate my heroes in said videos but there was also one section that I could relate to wholeheartedly. It was called the Slam Section: a montage in the video that showcased the falls, blunders and mouth gaping mistakes that happen when trying to progress at a somewhat young sport that skateboarding was at the time. Some of these clips were only seconds long but are still ingrained in my brain. They illustrated the first steps that one must take, some funny, some scare but mostly painful, to feel that burst of gratification that only comes from landing a trick after hours on end struggling with it. Simply rolling away, celebration to be had by all. It was a small price to pay. In curating the show, SLAM SECTION, I tried to find the cracks in between the façade of the art world, to rip it up and start over again, to break the politically driven art market and show art for the sake of art again. I selected these pieces based on instinct instead of influence. Each work comes together not to make sense but to simply inspire.“
Leo Fitzpatrick (b. New Jersey 1978) discovered skateboarding at an early age, in turn introducing him to New York City life by the age of 12. Transfixed by the streets, he would eventually drop out of school and spend his days roaming the streets and soaking in the culture. At the age of 14, he was discovered by Larry Clark and would work together on the feature film, Kids, two years later. This friendship and collaboration continues to this day, most recently illustrated by the Larry Clark 100 Dollar Print Sale. This project started at Fitzpatrick’s Home Alone 2 Gallery; a space that was launched three years ago with his then partners, Hanna Liden and Nate Lowman. The gallery recently closed due to rising rents on New York’s Lower East Side and will face a reopening in the fall with location and date still a secret. Fitzpatrick continuous to work as an actor but his heart belongs to the art world, whether it being through creating, curating or hosting an exhib ition at his gallery. (Via Steinsland Berliner)

IN STOCK: NIEVES PUBLICATIONS
25.04.15
Print update from Nieves! Featuring recent releases from Geoff McFetridge & James Jarvis along with some Ari Marcopoulos classics.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Geoff McFetridge - Studies
“These drawings are, mostly, studies for paintings. I have always been interested in creating work that lies between image and language: Imagery that your mind reads as language rather than being seen as spatial or physical things. These pictures are for me a way to induce a misfiring of our mind, to have something resonate with the viewer. What I am trying to capture is the moment of legibility. I would like these drawings to create a sense that the font with which you perceive the world has been changed.”  - Geoff McFetridge
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
James Jarvis - Spheric Dialogues
Spheric Dialogues is a series of 365 cartoon drawings, made daily in 2012, exploring philosophical thoughts concerning art, being, knowledge, logic and skateboarding. The cartoons references both philosophy (Descartes, Hegel, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer) and pop culture (Conan the Barbarian, Peanuts, Suicidal Tendencies). James Jarvis is a graphic artist from London, born in 1970, whose work encompasses cartoons, toys, comics, graphic design, printmaking and moving image. His practice concerns drawing, philosophy, alternate realities, minimalism and skateboarding.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ari Marcopoulos - Ad Rock
The second book in Marcopoulos' portraits book series takes a look at the musician, guitarist, rapper, producer, and actor Adam Keefe Horovitz (South Orange, NJ, 1966) also known as Ad Rock, one of the members of the pioneering hip-hop group, the Beastie Boys, together with Michael "Mike D" Diamond, Adam "MCA" Yauch and dj Michael "Mix Master Mike" Schwartz. Ad Rock portraits the life and interaction Marcopoulos had throughout the years with the band and in particular with Adam, both as a friend and insider with his camera capturing moments on and off stage with his spontaneous and unplanned style.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ari Marcopoulos - The Cat
Amsterdam-born photographer and filmmaker Ari Marcopoulos (1957) has become a familiar name to skaters and rockers, as well as to artists and scenesters. The Cat features his work in the world of snowboarding. It is a portrait of the Norwegian boarder Terje Haakonsen, filled with years of photographs not just of "the Cat" at work but of his life, his family, his friends, his home. Haakonsen (born in 1974) is widely considered one of the most influential snowboarders of all time and was one of the sport's early icons, Half-pipe World Champion three years in a row not long after that contest was established. This is the first of a series of Marcopoulos' portraits books of subjects in the contexts of their home lives.

INTRODUCIG: PALACE
24 March 2015
We are very proud to be introducing Palace to the mix! Pieces from the spring & summer collection available now.
Tumblr media
The PWBC London skate crew (Palace Waywards Boy Choir) that formed over a decade ago, laid the foundation for the birth of Palace. Founded by Lev Tanju in 2010, Palace is one of the most influential brands to ever emerge from the skateboarding community. Lev purveys a very honest and raw UK aesthetic, a fact reflected in the people with which he chooses to work, including Umbro, Reebok, The Tate Britain Gallery and Dover Street Market. Palace has established itself though bold moves that have already helped push it across traditional skate brand boundaries.

IN STOCK: BATTENWEAR SS15
14 March 2015
Spring shipment from our friends in the NYC garment district! Colors, textures, details and sewing techniques drawn from American outdoor and sports clothing from the 60s, 70s and 80s.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A technical, durable and functional take on the classic mountain parka, the Light Shell is the ultra streamlined, everyday version of the Battenwear parka. The raglan sleeves and inner mesh back-lining give it a sporty look while the 4-ply nylon of the body is light, quick drying, and wind resistant. Featuring the traditional four pocket set up, with angled zip closed chest pocket keeps your valuables safe as well as a zip closure rear pocket.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a Battenwear oldie and real goodie. Open the center zip pocket and flip the anorak into itself—you’re left with a compact package, ready to whip out of your bag should the wind lift or the summer night grow chilly. The seams on each side have pockets. The zip on the right side makes the anorak easy to slip on and off.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You’ve spent all day in the waves and now it’s time to kick back at the outdoor bar on the boardwalk, sip a bottomless beer, and watch the evening fall. Your tired muscles are glad for the micro terry cushion of your Boardwalk Polo, and it doesn’t hurt that the retro, laidback cut is catching the eye of the girl at the next table. Send a drink her way and let the evening roll.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There’s no doubt that the traditional and ultra-cool four-pocket Cuban shirt is comfortable and convenient for easy-access storage. And the Hawaiian shirt is the height of laid back fun. The Battenwear Five-Pocket Island Shirt is the perfect marriage of the two. Reach down into the fifth pocket for your train ticket or metro card. You’ll be well on your journey to Rockaway Beach by way of Cuba and Hawaii.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Camp Pants are a new addition to the Battenwear collection. The nylon body makes for a quick dry, and the reinforced knees and rear make it super durable. Zip pockets on the front and rear provide extra security.Adjustable ankle ties and an adjustable nylon mil-spec belt will allow you to customize the fit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the soft nylon, the Camp Shorts are good either in or out of the water, with mesh pockets for an easy dry after a long day of fun at the river or on the shore and general outdoorsy rumpus. Featuring a Velcro waist pocket for easy access to gear and zip thigh and back pockets to keep things secure. These shorts were made for playing outside, looking great, and getting dirty.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Basic Pocket Tee is a basic everyday staple, complete with the iconic chest pocket. Constructed of a medium weight cotton that is comfortable to the touch and, like most American-made clothing classics, will just become better and better with each wash and wear. The fit is roomy without being boxy, and with an added side slit for a better fall and greater allowance for movement.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Battenwear's five-panel Camp Cap is back for SS15. Featured here in a navy loop terry construction. With its bendable foam visor, it can be tucked into your back pocket as easily as fitted to your dome.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Packable Tote was created to make everyday, mundane tasks a bit more bearable (pun intended). Its handle is just the right length to make it slide on and off the shoulder but not too long that it can’t be hand carried. And when it’s not in use, it packs up into its interior zip pocket for a compact bundle. Contrasting splashes of color between the 1.9 oz ripstop nylon and the nylon-webbing handle to make the tote as much fun as it is useful.
