ive changed/ added alot to care’s backstory and i fear its become super super confusing and incoherent so i’m just going to summarize it all in one post. all canon divergent

the most influential people of cares life are

bailey

mindy (the older orphan)

harper

care is the oldest orphan living at the orphanage. they were orphans before her but those ones were ones who had already been there under the previous orphanage director. care was the very first orphan bailey had taken in under his care. care is bailey’s oldest orphan. although she isn’t aware of her real age, care is canonly 24 years old. the concurrent she lives is 2004, care was born in 1980 to a foreign tourist who ended up having to abandon her.

due to infant neglect she faced care was a sickly child and had to visit the hospital frequently from the ages of 6 months to 11 years old. if she hadn’t had consistent medical attention and an attentive overall upbringing during the early years of her life she would’ve either died as a child because of worsening health or grew up to have been an extremely frail adult. bailey was extremely vigilant with baby care, he did everything he could to ensure that she would grow up with as little health complications as possible and he achieved just that! as an adult care is as mostly physically healthy as can be, she only has issues with weight gain.

because bailey did most, if not all of the work by himself during his early years as the new orphanage director (including taking care of baby care) care ended up seeing him as a amalgamation of every kind of parental figure you could possibly imagine. occasionally he had extra hands but specifically when it came to her, it was always just him. even as an adult while care recognizes that he’s more close to being her father than anything else she still considers bailey to be this father-mother-everything in between figure to her.

as bailey started finding ways of making more money and became more of a criminal, he spent time with her less and care started doing things for his attention that became increasingly more unhinged. care was around 8 years old around this time. like physically not letting go when hugs him, to sneaking a pair of scissors and cutting off alot of her long hair, to eventually ripping out a tooth that wasn’t loose to get him to pay attention to her. it was just annoying at first but then he became really concerned about her attachment to him so for her (his) sake he decided to let someone else take care of her instead. come in mindy, who was younger than him, and like him was a orphan under the previous orphanage director’s handling. he made a deal with her that in exchange for lower rent she would have now be responsible for taking care of care. like making her meals and helping her bathe and helping her learn etc etc.

from here until care was 13 took the role of her big sister/ kinda mom and care naturally became very attached to her as well. even though they were only together for 5 years mindy’s influence on care is just as significant as baileys. a big part of care’s adult personality is thanks to mindy. care’s love of gardening, shopping, fashion, cosmetics is all thanks to her. most of her positive childhood memories peak when mindy’s in them. as for mindy herself though, she loved care very very much but was totally not in the right stage of her to take care of someone else. while she managed to take good care of care she was barely able to take herself. no one (not even bailey) really knows why or what exactly happened but one day mindy disappeared. without warning. there wasnt any note left behind by her for care, or anyone. she just didnt come back to the orphanage one day and never returned. all of the emotions that were entirely unidentified to care at the time when she first saw mindy’s missing poster is her worst memory of her entire life.

from here we can fast forward to the start of game with care asking bailey for the freedom to leave the orphanage by herself now. she believes she was 18 at the time but she was actually 21! this is where i have to explain harpers influence on care.

care has known harper since she were 7 years old, harper was just a nurse’s assistant who would occasionally tend to her at that time and was very kind to her. shes familiar with her. so when a very dejected and despondent 17 year old care has harper tell her that now she is care’s official primary care physician she doesnt question it and is more happy that its someone she trusts. i mentioned in a previous post that care remembers little of her teenage years and this is a direct result of harpers “treatment”. im leaving it vague on purpose bc i’d like the reader to come to their own conclusion on what exactly this entails, but tldr harper has been hypnotizing care since she became her personal doctor. (to varying degrees of success and failure) care believes whatever harper tells her.

care isn’t a documented person but the closest thing she has to documentation are the records of her hospital visits. harper either tampered or destroyed most of them so records of her real age are forever inaccessible to anyone other than harper.

bailey is aware that care doesnt know her real age and he prefers it that way because it benefits him more than anything. (the public knowing that care is a grown woman wouldn’t necessarily be BAD for him but would definitely raise some questions) its not affecting her physical health, it really isnt a big deal.

after care passes out for the time in game and harper tells her to start coming in on friday’s for therapy she does. she comes in every friday obediently without fail. the untested medication harper gives has the side effects of minor memory loss but it works really well for her, now shes able to work more efficiently than she was able to do when she wasnt taking it. even if she’s forgotten some things that apparently happened to her, her memory is still just fine enough to never forget about bailey’s payments. shes extremely grateful for sll of harpers help because without it, she wouldnt be able to function properly at all. care as she is currently is living just fine !
