MIT’s Pi Offers ‘World’s First Contactless Wireless Charging’ For Your Phone Up To 1 Feet

And we need a charger that’s actually wireless. An MIT-based startup called Pi has created world’s first contactless wireless charging tech that pumps power to your smartphone or other compatible devices up to a distance of 1 feet. You don’t need to have a charging pad, just move your phone or tablet closer to the Pi device.

The device uses the same Qi charging technology – based on resonant inductive coupling – incorporated into Apple and other wireless charging devices. Pi adds contactless charging capabilities by aligning its magnetic field with your device using a patented technology. Pi reminds me of the figures I used to see in physics textbooks. It looks like some inverted cone without the conical part. It can charge four devices (or more) at the same time and deliver up to 10W of power per device. However, the devices you add further would charge at reduced power. Also, it solves one of biggest problems of charging pads which make them worse than wired chargers. You can move your phone while it’s resting on the pad and charging. The contactless wireless charging tech is compatible with a variety of Android and Apple devices through a charging case that includes the resonant receiver. CEO John Macdonald showed off the Pi’s skills at TechCrunch Disrupt along with CTO Lixin Shi. “The hard part was figuring out how to make magnetic charging more flexible, multi-device, and extend its useful range. It tookus over a year to complete the mathematical proof that makes it all possible,” said Shi in a statement. When available in the market, the Pi wireless charger is expected to cost around $200. How Hackers Can Empty Your Bitcoin Wallet Using Your Phone Number And Email

The security of SMS-based two-factor authentication has been long-debated. Despite flaws in Signalling System No. 7 (SS7), which is an internationally used telecom protocol to route texts and calls, it continues to be used at a large scale in banking and other services. The security researchers Positive Technologies have shown how a bitcoin wallet can be hacked using SS7 vulnerabilities. By getting their hands on SS7 network, the hackers were able to reset the Gmail passwords using SMS-based two-factor authentication.

A big flaw in SMS-based 2FA is that the one-time password can be accessed on a variety of devices and services, which might have their own flaws. Thus, the attack surface increases. On the other hand, the true 2FA, which is like a push notification popup, sends the verification prompt to one device. In a video posted by the researchers, which is embedded below, it’s shown how easy it is to carry out the attack. By intercepting the text messages in transit, the hackers can take control of your Gmail account and any other service associated with it.

Not just cryptocurrency wallets, this flaw puts your banking and social media accounts at risk. “This hack would work for any resource – real currency or virtual currency – that uses SMS for password recovery,” the researchers told Forbes. Getting access to the SS7 network is the biggest barrier one needs to cross. The cybercriminals can buy the access on the dark web. In the past, at least at one occasion, SS7 was used to empty bank accounts. According to Forbes, many surveillance companies are also selling services to spy using SS7 flaw. What should the user do? As stressed earlier, SS7 flaw has been known to the telecom industry from a long time. So, unless they don’t take steps to make it more secure, the users need to take steps on their own. I was wondering if there is someone else among you, bettors, who happens to have a (very) big problem with gambling?

I, for one, have to admit I do have one. I spend like 50 % of the salary on betting, monthly. Rest of 40 % goes on rent, because I don’t have my own apartment, but don’t wanna live with my mom either, ofc (who wants that?). How do I live? Well with the remaining 10 % and just a bit of money I get from my mom (but a very low amount…). Don’t ask how much I eat. If I go to overtime’s to work in the weekend, guess what? When the payment comes, even more money to gamble. So it’s like I’m wasting even my little free time, only to get more money to throw on the window. Very stupid, I know…

I managed to stop for almost 2 months, in the begining of the year, January-February, but than again, I started with low sums at first and proceeded to spend very high amounts (for my situation) and lose it all. I just can’t seem to stop. Even if I am out of money for like 1 or 2 weeks, when I get some I will “try my luck” again. The result is the same always. I don;t know where to stop. Even if I stop and withdraw some of the money, like I did recently, I just put and bet it back again 2-3 days after. I really don’t know what’s my purpose. Do I wanna get rich by gambling? I don’t think that’s realistically possible. So what do I want? To live better with more money? Well I reach 0 sum every time, so it makes no sense, I would have more money if I wouldnt bet. I really don’t know, it’s an addiction, a disease, literally like a drug.

I know I should seek help, maybe I will, I don’t know yet, but I want to see if someone is in a similar situation and maybe learn something from that (though I fucked up so many times with this thing and I haven’t learned…).

I don’t want anyone to be in a bad situation, not being able to control himself, losing all the money (especially if he has a family; I don’t, so I’m pretty much hurting myself only), but, as I said, I would want to hear his story.
