Well not sure how much you’re into Tats, but I’m trying to decide what would be a better theme for them.

I usually go for mixing two characters weapons/elements but they feel like they need something special.

I’m deathly afraid of needles lol, but tats are neat. Personally my favorite are the more subtle ones, so if we’re going with a kafhime tattoo I’d think something more symbolic, along the lines of maybe a butterfly/rose and a spider/spider web because those are motifs they have that put together make me go crazy

what are some ideas/tropes/fic archetypes you think would be fun to see happen with kafhime??

Idk how you do it but you keep bringing up things I already had in mind and was just about to post. Anyway.

I’m a big old fan of well written and well characterized AUs and kafhime in particular make me soooooo ill thinking about them (shocking I know). A specific idea I’ve been toying with on the back burner for a good while is a medieval/royalty au where nobility Himeko is arrange to marry someone from another land and Kafka, who is undercover as part of a rebellion movement against the throne is assigned to be her personal knight to sabotage the marriage. Cue developing feelings.

besides that like, idk, I just love thinking about all the different ways they clash naturally just by being set up as narrative foils, I love exploring that in both writing and here

Actual fanfic archetypes…. Enemies to lovers, obviously, friends/enemies with benefits catching feelings, yearning, so much fucking yearing. Going against your head and your very nature to be with someone, chasing them to the ends of the universe where the two of you could be at peace, absolute obsessive devotion/the reluctancy to accept that despite the intrigue…… a lot of what you’ve been writing in da capo actually, lmao

what are some of your favorite and/or most unhinged kafhime thoughts?

oh boy let's seeeee. and also caveat of course these are my own headcanons but i'm not going to fight to the death for them and eventually i'm sure they too will change. it's just fun!

so kafka is into fragile things right. but the real thrill of something being fragile and ephemeral is the fear we have to contend with at losing it, at watching it be destroyed and crumble. take the fear away and it's not the same. and that's kafka in a nutshell, right, she lacks the fear component. having fear again would make her truly appreciate the fragility of everything withering around her. the fragility of love.

i think kafka is very empathic just not in the regular degular sense. again, lack of fear, so she feels empathy but without the fear that tinges our social conventions compelling her to extend it beyond those she considers near her. and it expresses itself in ways others would find gross, i guess, like how she quarantines blade's mind and senses to keep his mara contained. you can be empathic without being soft-hearted or overly friendly.

both kafka and himeko are very sure of who they are as people and aren't seeking validation of themselves in the other. it makes slowburn extra great in my opinion. himeko doesn't need kafka, strictly speaking, and vice versa. that calm self-confidence and self-assurance is why i see them as being more middle-aged, like they've been around, they have tested themselves, they have done the work and resolved a lot of issues. well, at least himeko has. and so them being together becomes a choice, a curiosity, a kind of... dance towards something.

i think kafka falls in love first, and himeko way later. himeko keeps a lot to herself, she's travelled for a while and has said a lot of goodbyes. it's not that she is an ice queen but she is reserved in letting others close.

i think a lot about her casualness on jarilo-vi. she worried very little about the trailblazers on the ground. she seems a bit more blasé about dangers than i initially assumed and the way she shrugs off kafka's repeated interferences in the keeping up with star rail was so funny. she's got this sense of direction heading forward and kafka loves the chase to keep up with her. himeko comes out on top a lot and it has kafka coming back for more.

also, corny maybe but their dates would 1. be mostly arranged by kafka, 2. extremely over the top romantic. think candlelit dinners in a gazebo with soft rain outside. think orchestral concerts with box seats. think invitation-only masked balls. (especially the bigger functions are all about slipping away for quiet moments just the two of them. the contrast.) do these dates impress himeko? nope. she finds something to critique and kafka finds that so endearing.

Man. It sucks so bad that no matter the year and no matter the fandom we will always circle back to this nonsense. It sucks even more when I see it from fellow wlw. I’m a fan of female characters in shounen, I even ship some of them with popular men, I’m used to nastiness from fujos and dudebros, but seeing such a small and underrepresented circle tearing itself apart over that is just incredibly saddening. Being a woman or a sapphic doesn’t absolve you of misogyny btw, and if you’re so eagerly willing to drag a female character through the mud for quote on quote getting in the way then you need to take a long hard look at yourself and shut the fuck up.

the real tragedy is seeing wlw shippers in 2023 getting so into hating on another wlw ship that they swing right back into misogynistic 2003 rhetoric of "i hate this woman she's in the way of my ship and my ship is better"

Kafka was a devil hunter in her world, which tells me she saw what having no fear does to people and fought against it, rejected it. But that rejection can’t be from fear of her turning into a devil since, well, she doesn’t have fear. So, why? Why become a devil hunter? For the rush? Because that adrenaline was the closest she could get to understanding what this unknown concept felt like? Maybe it’s disgust? She has an eye for elegance, for beauty. Maybe she saw the devils succumbing into such extreme forms of pleasure and was disgusted by the inelegance. Hmm. I don’t think that’s quite right either. An idea I had is that she heard a piece of music, or watched a film, or read a book from another world, found some form of art that explored fear and all it’s themes, and became obsessed because the art was beautiful, but she could not replicate it or create something like it because she was missing that crucial element, the fear.
