Men’s Say on Abortion
Many pro-choice believers also side with the statement that men don’t have a say in abortions because it’s the woman’s body. When a man is in a committed relationship with a woman, it is difficult to say that he has no decision in the birth of their baby since it is technically half genetically his. Reports state that men are just as affected by the abortion as the woman when the man is actively involved with the women and her decisions. It is a clear argument to make on a women’s side that men have no say because it is not their bodies. Some countries even have laws stating that a woman cannot receive an abortion unless the paternal father agrees and signs paperwork.

Abstinence Only vs. Safe Sex Education
There has always been a major debate between whether schools should partake in safe sex or abstinence only education. The type of education that a person receives affects how they participate in the act of sex, which affects abortion rates. Abstinence only education teaches kids that sex before marriage is looked down upon. When taught this way, there is no correlation to a lower amount of sexual interactions. Teenagers, especially, will still engage in sexual activities so it is best to prepare them properly instead of assuming they will all follow the abstinence only teachings. Abstinence only education usually censors the use of condoms and other contraception options, so students are more susceptible to STI’s.

Justifications of Being Pro-Choice
A fetus is completely dependent, unlike born human beings
Giving rights to a fetus denies the rights of a woman who wants an abortion
If a woman cannot support her child, an abortion saves a life of hurt and mistreatment towards the baby
It fuels the already growing issue of the foster care system if the woman can’t abort
Not all women have access to contraceptives. Should they not participate in a normal act of life?
Men should stop dictating the actions of women
Mental and physical health of a woman is very important
There is not a good sex-education system in the U.S. to teach teens/adults how to engage in safe sex

Justifications of Being Pro-Life
Aborting a baby is completely goes against the women’s empowerment movement
They take motherhood seriously and disagree with not supporting the unexpected pregnancies. Every mother should be able to handle it.
You are unjustly taking the life of a human being
The fetus is a human being from conception
Size/age/dependency does not determine worth
Women willingly engage in sex knowing the possible outcome of pregnancy and should take responsibly

Global Gag Rule Reinstatement
Under the Mexico City Policy aka the Global Gag Rule that Trump reinstated, nongovernmental organizations outside of the U.S. cannot receive U.S. government funding if they promote, discuss, or perform abortions. This policy, thought to decrease the number of abortions in other countries, has yet to prove a decrease. It instead has put women at higher risk for dangerous unprofessional botched abortions, poorer access to women’s health care, and restricted rights to free speech.

Funding Goes if Abortion Stays
Trump stated that Planned Parenthood can keep its federal funding if they completely stop performing abortions. This would be reasonable, except for the fact that federal money doesn’t fund abortions unless it is a case of rape/incest/life endangerment. The 500 million dollars that Planned Parenthood receives annually goes towards the services that they provide such as HIV/STI tests and pregnancy tests. The Executive Vice President of Planned Parenthood stated that abandoning their patients is not in question.

Foster Care and Adoptions vs. Abortion
It is a widely discussed topic – Foster Care and Adoptions instead of Abortions. The main reasons for a woman to receive an abortion include: the woman cannot support the child or the woman cannot afford to miss out on school or work. If that woman cannot receive an abortion, that child will either live with the biological mother/family under unknown conditions, live with an adopted family, or be put into the foster care system. Experts believe that these children born in this situation will usually end up living a life of abuse and neglect. While this is not the case for all of these situations, it is very possible and does happen that these children are neglected and put into the foster care system. The system has all good intentions, but many parts are broken. Many of the children in this system will experience both short and long term harm because of their time spent in the system. Foster care has been a growing issue in the United States. If abortions are not allowed, those children will most likely add to the numbers of the foster care system.

Women Denied Title X Funds
Title X provides family planning funding for impoverished women. It also provides funding for close to 4,000 Planned Parenthood locations across the country. Trump stripped these women of their money who are protected under Title X. He recently revoked Obama’s bill stating that a health care center could not be denied Title X money for political reasons. Some of the information that gets overlooked is the fact that when Title X is in place, it saves the government money by supplying preventative care. Birth control prevents accidental pregnancies and in turn reduces the number of abortions that are performed. Trump’s action will not get rid of Planned Parenthood, but it will make it more difficult for undeserved Americans to receive health care.

Myths of the 3 Percent
While these percentages can vary, the most debatable number is the 3% of abortions performed. Planned Parenthood provided 10.6 million services to 2.7 million clients in the 2013-2014 annual report. Of these 10.6 million services, 327,653 were abortions. This leads us to the 3% of all services being abortions. The issue in numbers arises because one woman can go in and receive a pregnancy test, an HIV/STI Test, and a urine test, and they would all be counted under different services instead of one service. So, one can see why abortions might count for more than 3% if you count the individuals instead of each service they received. If this number was calculated using the 2.7 million clients instead of the 10.6 million services, the percentage would be 12.1%.
