potential collection on notebooks of mine. I dont have many but like the idea of the wear that each of them take on and how that can be adapted visually to capture a sense of dedication the notion that when you write you transfer a piece of yourself to the paper. or in this case the notebook.
artist shrino ohtakes collect his sketchbooks and documents their personal meaning. he has this almost violent scrap booking style which creates a rich textural portrayal of the time and place these scrapbook have been created.

Collection 1
Initial Photographic response. A family run business in Shepard's bush houses a large collection of portraits. They seem to be aspirational figures of the musical world. Each photo included on the wall compliments the next, creating an ecosystem of moving parts. The faces feel like an ensemble of representation and culture that reflects the taste of the curator.
This to me highlighted a sense of family values and community, where the people on the wall serve to reflect personal memory and individual perspectives on each person. The wall becomes this sprawling tapestry of shapes from the objective perspective of passer byers , but for the curator it becomes a sound board of memory and experience.
Some of the named featured are Nas, Busta Rhymes, Liam Gallagher, Lenny Henry etc.
On the whole, each photo contains a signature and sometimes a message from the person featured in the portrait. Which allows some of the images to grow beyond the moment of capture, allowing the celebrity to regain their sense of likeness and add further humanity to it.
I want to build on this through an investigation of family photos, exploring the intimacy that portraits evoke. On living room walls or large book selves the long ever unravelling trail of familiar connection can be documented and mapped out. This is interesting to me especially with how warm and personal this style of collection feels.
Lastly, in response for this particular collection I would like to aim to create my own portrait collection. Displaying my own personal taste, and map out people who have influenced me from a far. This will result in an expression of self in a more nuanced format.
