Lotus F1

Lotus does not currently have an F1 team anymore as in 2015 they let Reanult take over. the name Lotus was not used in the 2016 season. still to this day Lotus do not have a team although are working very closley with renault. anyway a bit of history.

The team's Formula One history started in 1981 as the Toleman Motorsport team, based in Witney, Oxfordshire, England. In 1986, the team was renamed to Benetton Formula, following its purchase in 1985 by the Benetton family. In 1992/3, the team moved a few miles to a new base in Enstone. Michael Schumacher won the Drivers' Championship with the team in both 1994 and 1995. In 1995, the team also won the Constructors' Championship, with Johnny Herbert driving alongside Schumacher.

Renault purchased the Benetton team in 2000, and in 2002, they renamed it to Renault F1. In both 2005 and 2006, Fernando Alonso won the Drivers' Championship with the team, and the team won the Constructors' Championship (with Giancarlo Fisichella as their other driver).

Fun fact Lotus had a twin sister F! team which was later on named Cateram.

The team

You can catch the Lotus bug at any time. For Paul Shipley, owner of PJS Sports Cars, it was at the age of four, when he was put into the driver’s seat of a Lotus Elan for the first time.

From then, he’s never looked back. Paul has, alongside master technician Owen Shipley, restored a Lotus 51 and then raced it for a number of years. Paul has also Sprinted and Hill climbed many other cars, including an Elise, a 340R, a Lotus Seven, an Elan and an Elite.

Over the last decade, PJS Sports Cars has sold a number of different makes and models of car, from the modern supercars to the finest heritage examples. As the years passed, Lotus owners in particular must have sensed the special place that Lotus has in the company’s heart, as the number of customers coming to PJS Sports Cars to buy, service, repair and restore their Lotus continued to increase, while at the same time loyal customers just kept coming back.

With the business continuing to grow in size as well as reputation, we opened our new premises in January 2017 and at that moment became a Lotus Authorised Service Centre.

As it grows, the company continues to base its business on basic principles of giving the very best customer service and ensuring only the highest level of technical expertise in the workshop. Whether your car hails from the 1950s or is fresh out of the showroom, we’ll treat it with the same respect and care.

You’ll do well to find a more experienced technician than Owen Shipley or a more enthusiastic one than new recruit Rob Swinson.

The company’s values align very much with those of Lotus and we are really very proud to be representing Lotus in the Midlands.

We've been living and breathing Lotus all our lives. Owner Paul Shipley recalls first sitting in a Lotus aged four and ever since then they've been in his blood. Alongside Owen, his master technician, Paul has bought, sold, repaired, serviced, restored, upgraded, driven, prepped and raced Lotus cars for over 20 years. PJS Sports Cars has been running for 10 years and with the move in January 2017 to new, larger premises and the award of Lotus authorisation, the company that lives and breathes Lotus is ready to share its passion with you.
