My thoughts on witcher!jaskier
So, so. I have been looking at a lot of witcher!jaskier shit lately, and eventhough bear!jaskier strikes a cord in my heart, to me, jask will always be a cat. So, with Jaskier being a cat, he would know Aiden, that would be logical. My question: what would their relationship be? my headcanon, Jaskier is Aidens teacher! Hear me out. Julek (jaskier's first actual name) was a promising young witcher of about 50 years old when it happend. He doesn't go to the caravan often because he doesn't like his siblings all that much, but he occasionally does to gamble and drink without having to worry about prejudice. He gambles his fun money away and gets drunk as a skunk in the process. He then remembers just how much he doesn't like being at the caravan and in his drunken mind decides to leave the caravan then and there to continue on the path. On his way out he stumbles into the wrong cart and finds Aiden. Aiden came out wrong. When he went trough the grasses (i hc that eventhough the cats do take in witchers from other schools that came out wrong, they also made their own, and aiden was one of the later.) Usually, a cat comming out with weird mutations isn't a problem, that's the cats school's specialty. But Aiden was a step too far. Aiden was deaf after the grasses. And the mages wanted to know why, so they strapped him to a table, to dissect him later. that's where Julek finds him. at 12 years old, scared, feverish from the grasses, alone, unable to hear, and not knowing what is going got happen to him. Julek, drunk as he is, decides that this is the perfect opportunity to make a shit decision and just. Takes. The kid. Julek just steals this child, and when he sobers up he realizes that that was a shit desicion but can't go back now, not when the kid looks up at him with scared sad eyes and go god he is gonna get so attached to this kid. So, Julek raises Aiden to the best of his abilties. He feeds him, trains him, teaches him the speech of hands (sighn language). Aiden is a smart boy, and phenomenal with trowing knives, he truly has impeccable aim. He's large too. Whatever took his hearing made him grow fast as fuck. Eventually, just when Aiden is getting used to not hearing, after a year or so, fate is cruel to him once again and takes his silent safety. Getting his hearing back is excutiating. Everything is loud, and sounds are so sharp now and it is overwhelming and aiden just want's it to be quit again but it is never quiet and and and. He's not having a good time. It takes him well over a month for him to adjusted to sounds. But now his hearing is better then any witcher's. It's overwhelming and it hurts but at least he can hear the monsters coming now.
All the while they are getting chased. Rememeber: Julek took a kit that wasn't his, not only that, Aiden was supposed to be a sience experiment and the cat mages want him back. so, 3 years after aiden getting stolen they make the desicion to go back to the caravan and claim aiden as julek's kit, to keep them from being hunted.
only problem: only grandmasters can assighn a witcher a kit to go on the path with, and the current grandmaster won't do it, because the mages want to keep him. so, Julek does the sane thing and chalenges the granmaster. If he wins and kills the grandmaster, then he becomes the grandmaster and can claim Aiden. if not, well... he wont be around to witness what they would do to his kit (son) nobody expects this 50 something year old witcher to beat the grandmaster with a century of experience under his belt. Julek is good, but he's (relatively) young. They are all wrong. Julek wins. Aiden is his. He claims his kid, steps down from the grandmaster position and fucks right off. I have so much more for this au but it's late so i might write that later if you want.

I'm a sucker for Witcher!Jaskier who abandons the Path to be a bard instead but after the Mountain he is tempted to "Kill" the everyone's favourite bard to distance himself from the memories of his travels with Geralt.
He finally does it couple of months later when Nilfgaardian soldiers try to capture him. He kills them, retrieves his Witcher gear*, and then makes sure the rumor of the bard's demise spreads far and wide
*He doesn't wear any insignia and does his best to hide his swords as well, trying to stay as much under the radar as possible
He is back on the Path and within a month he runs into Ciri. He is petty enough not to do anything about it at first, she is after all Geralt's child surprise. But he is not petty enough to let her die or be captured by Nilfgaard when he sees them attack her. Jaskier saves Ciri and well. It's not like he can just tell a child to fuck off now. They start traveling together, Jaskier deciding that taking her to Kaer Morhen is probably the best bet.
They don't make it to the Keep together. One day, in a village not that far from the Keep, they run into Geralt. Well, Ciri runs into him, Jaskier is off on a job in nearby woods. He has left Ciri in a small apothecary of an old lady who hired him. Geralt is there to replenish some herbs. She tells him she's been traveling with a man who promised to help her find Geralt which is why they were so near the Keep. Geralt is on high alert, but when the man doesn't return after several days, they leave for Keep alone
Jaskier for his part is very aware of Geralt as soon as he is done with the hunt. He starts walking in the opposite direction of the village and only turns back because he sees injured Eskel and has a bad feeling and he wants to make sure Ciri will be fine. He makes it to the Keep just in time to save the day (no one dies). Geralt is very confused
Jaskier also punches Geralt in the face for his assholery (I am living vicariously through this) He also promises to kill him if he hurts Ciri ❤️
Jaskier doesn't leave only because Ciri asks him to stay and he helps train her, finding Wolves' methods stupid and wrong. Like, Ciri is not a big muscly witcher and never will be as strong physically as Wolves and they can't just ignore that. Jaskier, despite having witcher strength, is also not very big and thus has always relied more on his agility rather then physical strength and privately teaches Ciri his fighting style. She does win a sparing fight against Geralt (even if part of the reason is his surprise and inability to predict her moves; it's the only fight she wins against him without using any magic)

Do you have dragon!Jaskier fic recs as well? Really fell in love with it due to shining
Looks like people crave Dragon Jaskier, which, like I 1000% understand so here’s a bunch of fic recs
Even Steel Blades Need Fire
Jaskier has a fiery secret to tell Geralt and let me tell you, it’s 20 years in the making. @letmetellyouaboutmyfeels
Vi Kivan Ui Hefoc Vi Svihelen (Trian Zklaen Qu Rajntn)
So this is by the same author as before and it’s a sequel to Even Steel Blades, but it has Jaskier interacting with his dragon family so YES
‘My Own’
Aka the one where Jaskier and Geralt take Ciri up to Kaer Morhen for the Winter and we get lots of Witchery goodness and bonding up in the mountains. If you can’t tell, I have a large soft spot for the whole Kaer Morhen family. @valleyofwitcher
Wanderlust
One-shot. Jaskier is a dragon that loves to travel. It’s not a surprise that when he loses his memory he finds himself drawn to a Witcher. @the-real-dannix
the fire in your kiss
One-Shot. Geralt gets kidnapped by a dragon that feels awfully familiar to him. @winterladyy
At the Top of the Tower (In Lands Far Away)
This one is just an AU where Geralt is sent to slay dragon Jaskier but SHOCKED he falls in love instead. @ohmygoshwhatascream
Shining
This is a really popular AU surrounding the idea that Borch basically picks up Jaskier as well as his new dragon child once leaving the mountain because Jaskier has secretly been a dragon this whole time. This is a gen fic basically so its the vibe, this is the fic for you. @nemainofthewater
A Quest for Your Memories
This one is pretty fun, Jaskier has amnesia, doesn’t know he’s a dragon and begins to turn back into one against his will. This is still in its early stages but is being updated regularly and has a super fun concept. @blaidd-gwyn
Fából Vaskarika
I know, I have to bring up my own Dragon!jaskier fic, it’s just one chapter now but might add more later. It’s canon timeline but Jaskier is a dragon that’s been cursed into human form.

Okay but with dragon Jaskier. Like through the years more and more Witchers come to the keep for winter to see and spend time with the dragon until every Witcher from every school spends every winter at Kaer Morhen, and Jaskier has adopted them all into his hoard. Jaskier is such a big dragon and there are so few Witcher’s left that if they smoosh together Jaskier can curl around all of them at the same time. He’s very protective over his hoard.
Vesemir steps into the great hall and stops in his tracks, something deep within him relaxing at the sight.
Jaskier is curled around a pile of Witchers, his big body barely fitting in the remade hall. Together with the bard and Geralt, they tore down some walls and reinforced others, making space for Jaskier to fit when the winds are harsh and the winter comes truly.
The cold doesn't bother the dragon, but Jaskier was adamant that even his heat won't keep his hoard from getting cold, so one spring the couple stayed behind with Vesemir and they made some changes to the keep. It's not perfect, never will be, but it works for now.
Vesemir knows that Jaskier has an estate with a small castle that he plans on using in a few years. It'll be hard to leave Kaer Morhen, but his children are right - there's only so much grief and bad memories one person can take before it stops being a home. He thinks they're all pretty close.
For now, Jaskier is as content as he can be, almost radiating happiness. The dragon's eyes are half-closed, still trained on the Witchers curled by his belly, under his wing. Vesemir allows himself a small smile when their eyes meet.
The bard truly changed a lot when he came for the first time, as bold and full of fire as his species suggests, unafraid of anything, from Witchers to hard work. Jaskier is hard to hate but also hard to like and Vesemir is glad that he and the bard somehow resonate together. He's truly good for Geralt.
His most lonely pup is currently curled by Jaskier's chest, white hair standing out against the dragon's red underbelly, eyes closed. Vesemir can hear his slow, steady heartbeat, can smell the sweet love and deep contentment on Geralt.
For all he taught his pups to stay clear of others, Vesemir is glad that Jaskier's too stubborn to listen to Geralt. He's still too stubborn to listen to them, not when he's sure he's right. Vesemir knows it's only a matter of time before their winters will be spent not in Kaer Morhen, but in Jaskier's castle.
He doesn't mind as much as he did, a few years earlier.
Geralt is happy and, against all odds, in love with the bard. Eskel is content, his hair now shorter, not so ashamed of his scars. Lambert is cuddling with that damn Cat that may not be as bad as he thought. Coën's smile is more gentle than Vesemir ever saw.
There are even Vipers in Kaer Morhen now, tangled together by Jaskier's belly, 5 Bears now seemingly hibernating in the cradle of Jaskier's tail. Vesemir can't remember the last time there were so many Witchers in one place...
Well, he can but it's not a good memory.
This time, however, there's a dragon in the keep. No matter what they send, how many sorcerers and armies, Vesemir knows Jaskier can take them. He knows what his big, hard scales say, the fully developed frill of spikes along the dragon's throat, 3 rows of teeth.
Jaskier is an old dragon, probably one of the oldest one left, and he's not to be thrifled with. As hard as it is to believe, Vesemir now knows that they're Jaskier hoard, and gods protect anyone who comes between a dragon and their hoard.
You're standing entirely too far away, my old Wolf, it's nice and hot here
Vesemir smirks when Jaskier speaks in his mind, finally taking the few steps closer to sink next to Eskel, furs soft beneath him, Jaskier radiating warmth.
The dragon lets out a satisfied rumble, one great wing covering them all even more, allowing no heat to escape.
Vesemir closes his tired eyes and mentally says goodbye to Kaer Morhen, now absolutely sure it's the last winter they stay here.

Yes, yes I'm doing the thing.
So. Anyone else but me notice tortured Jaskiers teeth look...off?
Tumblr media
Like his top teeth are too even, the cute canines are missing, and his bottom teeth look like there are way more than normal... 🤔 Perhaps like a transformation??!!
Like this for comparison:
Tumblr media
Ok. So, allow me to go out on a limb. Maybe I'm just spending too much time on this, buuut is there any reason his torture clip is right after the Borch flashback? Y'know cause we haven't make any allusions to Jaskier and his scale patterned clothing or anything. Or the suspish looks that were being exchanged by the bard and the human-shaped dragon in EP. 6.
What do you think?/

For my lovely inspiration, @softnerdypeter, who is an absolute dear and made me think of this.
So, not all dragons are bards, but all dragons sing.
As dragons, it sounds a bit strange. More like humming, voices woven together like a thick rug. The youngest one get to sing the melody, because their voice hasn’t deepened yet.
It is a sight to behold, and so rare most thinks it’s a myth.
Especially because dragons are so rare now, and it is dangerous to meet up in your true form. (I’m sticking to the idea that their dragon name is something they saw or something that happened as they hatched.)
Jaskier is a dragon, isn’t he? One of the younger ones, one of the best kept secrets on the continent.
It will take him a few hundred years to get his voice as deep as his mothers, but he practices every day. But he has to practice as a human.
The thing that makes him such a wildly popular bard, is that he has history on his side. His memory runs deep, and human words come to him easily. He enjoys all kinds of singing. He listens to birds, converse with sirens, enjoys the crickets small accompaniment to the nights symphony of noise.
He takes inspiration from all that he sees. His best love song may star humans, but it is not always the inspiration behind the song.
The most moving love story he ever saw, he saw in a riverbank, and he translated their fight to an epic, spread the tale of longing, heartache and lust.
There are dragons that despise him for it, but when he meets Jackdaw upon that wretched mountain top, he is nothing but kindness.
Essi was not a bard. She was but a human, but Jaskier loved her as deeply as any sister he ever had. For her, he tried to sing in the old way, let her sing the melody.
Geralt almost found out then.
But the day he actually finds out, the day Jaskier reveals his long held secret, is when he brings Geralt to his hatching place along the coast.
He brings Geralt to meet his mother.
Geralt listens, as Jaskier and his mother sings together. And at night, laying in rented beds at the inn, one entire room apart, Geralt asks him about it.
Geralt never asks to see his dragon form, he knows of the dangers.
But when they have found the cub of cintra, when they are in the deep mountains of Kaer Morhen, Jaskier spreads his wings for them, scales glistening in the sun.
Wyverns don’t sing, but when Jaskier sings in his dragon voice from atop the mountain, all of nature is still. They listen.

After being abandoned by Geralt and with Nilfgaard hot on his trail, Jaskier decides to forsake his human form and embrace his true nature as a dragon, retreating to the Blue Mountains.
Winter has descended upon Kaer Morhen, and its inhabitants are none too pleased with their new dragon neighbor, especially after discovering that the formidable creature is none other than Geralt’s bard.
Now, Geralt faces the daunting task of apologizing to a literal dragon in hopes of persuading Jaskier to resume his human guise.

You’re a dragon, Jaskier
I just finished Witcher s2 and I have thoughts.  Once again, I bounced this off of @aplaceofnonsense, my enabler.
Me:  Hey, remember that “Jaskier is immortal” theory I had from last year?  I have to amend that.  I don’t think he’s immortal.
Saph: …he’s not?
Me: He’s not immortal.  He’s a dragon.
Saph: um…WUT
(Season 2 spoilers below the cut)

Jaskier never hid the fact that he was a dragon from Geralt; the witcher simply didn't believe him.
However, Jaskier never mentioned that in dragon years, he was quite young, considered more of a dragonling rather than a fully grown dragon, despite appearing as an adult human.
Later, when Geralt meets Borch, another dragon, he begins to wonder if Jaskier was telling the truth. Eventually, Geralt witnesses Jaskier's dragon form.
To his surprise, Jaskier as a dragon is rather fluffy and only reaches up to Geralt's knees.
