Some things are too important to society to be left in the hands of Wall Street investors.
(I knew there was some deeper level of mismanagement going on, because a week of sick leave is way cheaper than a 24% raise, and the only reason I could think of to offer the latter instead of the former is Logistics Too Delicate. This article helps explain that.)

so mad that our takeaway from the mask thing hasn’t been “wait, so we could have been getting like 80% fewer colds and viruses this entire time?”

today is world AIDS day
a lot of HIV-positive people still face stigmatisation due to prejudices and misinformation. so here is a quick reminder that:
HIV cannot be transmitted through touch
HIV cannot be transmitted via saliva, tears or sweat
HIV cannot pass unbroken skin or gloves, meaning you can help an injured HIV-positive person without fearing infection
HIV medication is so good these days that it can push the viral load below a detectable amount, which means that the virus CANNOT be transmitted anymore! no, not even during sex!!! (which doesn’t mean you should just have unprotected sex; other STIs and unwanted pregnancy are still a thing that you have to keep in mind!)
the medication can have strong side effects though, so it is important to do more research and develop even better medication
not every person in the world has the same access to medication. it is absolutely vital that everyone who needs it can get easy and free access to it.
HIV is not a death sentence anymore!!! through education and free access to condoms and medicine we can keep pushing the number of new infections with HIV down and prolong the life expectancy of people already infected.
Please share this information, not just online but also with friends and family who might not know it. And if you can, donate to your local AIDS/HIV charity or if you want to support one that’s operating internationally then Elton John AIDS Foundation is the one I’d recommend!

Last June, one middle-aged union engineer postponed a doctor’s visit for work then died of a heart attack on the job weeks later. A conductor who spoke with the Times began feeling rundown last year but declined to see a doctor for fear of being disciplined for taking an unplanned day off. Instead, he waited months for the next doctor’s appointment that aligned with a scheduled day off. He then learned he’d been suffering from an infection that could have been treated with medication weeks earlier but would now require surgery.

i just wanna say that even if you have degenerative diseases, life can still get better with age. i don't know how long i have left and i just seem to keep getting sicker, but im steadier and happier and more secure in myself than ever.
i started my 20s healthy and my 30s deathly ill and i'm much happier now. i wouldn't even trade health for everything else i've gained since.
contrary to the popular misconception, health isn't everything or even the most important thing. it's good to have! but you can make a happy life as a sick person, in whatever time you have

this is a reminder that not all tools used for health issues are easily recognizable, especially to able-bodied people.
the knee socks i wear everyday compress my shins and feet so that blood doesn’t pool in them. i really only use my apple watch to track my heart rate and HRV. the flavoring i add to my water was recommended by my doctor to help hydrate me and treat autonomic neuropathy. the rings i wear on my fingers are actually there to prevent dislocations and allow me more dexterity.
i’m sure there are plenty more examples that people with other conditions could offer.
my powerchair is my livelihood, yes, but it is not the only tool i need for accommodation. i also need my socks, and my rings, and my watch.
if you are able-bodied, (and especially if you have power in any institution,) and somebody tells you they need something for their disability, LISTEN TO THEM! you are not educated enough to dictate what helps somebody with their condition.

‘relationships are work’ means ‘you have to put effort into loving each other intentionally & learning how to love each other and communicating properly’ not ‘your relationship makes you feel stressed and sad most of the time & the other person disrespects you and treats you bad but you stay anyway’

the idea of catching covid should be horrifying to people. we're only 2+ years into this pandemic and are already seeing long term effects like cognitive decline, increased risk of heart attack and stroke, immunity depletion and dozens more health consequences of having even a "mild" case of it. we already know from SARS-1 that many who had it continue to suffer long term sequelae nearly 2 decades after their infection. we know of many other horrible long term consequences of other viruses that can appear decades after the initial infection [e.g. shingles from varicella zoster virus (chicken pox), cervical and oropharyngeal cancers from HPV, multiple sclerosis from epstein barr virus (glandular fever) + many more] and yet people are being completely blasé about getting their 3rd, 4th, 5th+ infection. we are going to look back at our current minimisation of the dangers of covid with absolute horror in the future when a decent amount of the population will be suffering from the long term effects of this absolutely piss poor management of a global pandemic

I’ve seen so many threads debating the merits of rayon and whether it’s a plastic or a “natural fibre” going around, and y’all, the problem with rayon is not whether or not it satisfies some technical definition of synthetic fibre.
The problem is that the most common method of manufacturing rayon is so ridiculously toxic that it’s literally killing the people who work in the facilities where it’s produced, and is illegal to carry out in much of the world as a result – but instead of using better (more expensive) methods, everybody just imports the stuff from places where killing your workers for the sake of a buck isn’t effectively regulated.

Honestly, if you’re not physically disabled or you don’t personally know a physically disabled person in the real world, I don’t want to hear how physical disabilities are taken more seriously than other disabilities. Because once you really begin to notice how genuinely inaccessible our society is, every crack in the sidewalk, every ramp leading to a step, every gravel path that could have easily been paved, long walks to the only ramp in the building, you realize that physically disabled people were never taken seriously.

Fat people are allowed to participate in food traditions.
Fat people are allowed to feast on Thanksgiving.
Fat people are allowed to feel full.
Fat people are allowed to find joy and comfort through food.
Fat people are allowed to socialize through food.
Fat people are allowed to have dessert.
Fat people are allowed to have seconds.
Fat people are allowed to take leftovers.
Fat people are allowed to eat food.
