I scrolled on down to the obituaries. I usually read the obituaries first as there is always the happy chance that one of them will make my day.

Someone knew. The shock washed over him, stealing his voice. It couldn't be this easy. There was a catch -- somewhere.
"Dakota--" His voice broke on the last syllable. He cleared his throat and tried again. "Dakota is an old friend of mine. That's all. I'm...I'm just trying to find him."
pixelthecatwhowalksthruwalls:
Well, why not? It couldn’t hurt. “Search ‘dakota deadman.’ He might be in a condo.”
‘Dakota Deadma-’ Her fingers hovered over the keys mid-sentence, in shock. ‘Dakota-san…’ She whispered to herself, and shook her head to try to recollect herself. ‘Before I give you an answer, I need to know: why are you looking for him? Sanun-sama may not need to know that I’m using the data-base, but if he does find out and there are cases related to this information, I will get in a lot of trouble. Do you have any bad reasons for wanting to search for him?’
She thought she should have asked these questions earlier, but better late than never, especially since she technically had not disclosed any information yet.

She smiled. ‘Well, I hope I don’t make you suspicious,’ she said, ‘if you need help with anything, I’ve been here a little while, so I may be able to help.’
At the words “looking for someone”, she raised her eyebrows in interest. ‘Oooh, that sounds interesting!’ she said, ‘Do you want any help, or is it a “I have to do this by myself for the honour” thing?’ She spoke in as low of a voice as she could in a joking manner, but immediately burst into a fit of giggles as she finished the sentence.
“I don’t know,” he admitted. “The person I’m looking for is a really private individual, he may be living off the grid. I don’t even know if he’s in the city itself or just in the area…”
‘Hmmm, what is his name?’ she asked, ‘it’s not a bad idea to search. We also have things that normal people don’t, Sanun-sama doesn’t need to know.’ She winked cheekily and quickly ran to get her laptop, bringing up a database. ‘I can only tell you if he’s in Port City, and a general area, but not specific details.’

He waved her applogy away. “Don’t worry about it. I’d prefer someone just asking as opposed to trying to pretend it doesn’t exist.”
Delaney sat on the edge of the desk. “I need a way to pay the bills while I’m here. The Agency has a vague veneer of reputability, so I only have to be suspicious of half my coworkers instead of all of them. And…and I’m looking for someone.”

“The leg? Oh…” Delaney paused. Mimi was young and he couldn’t tell her too much anyway.
Better to gloss over the real reasons, he decided. She didn’t need to know much more.
“There was an accident,” he lied. “Industrial. The VA fixed me up though. It was…years ago I guess.”
Her eyes widened still more, if that was even possible. ‘Wow…’ was all she was able to say. ‘It’s a good thing you’re okay, but…’
She was lost for words. She had only just met this guy and already she had the nerve to ask deeply personal questions. ‘I apologise for asking,’ she said, ‘it was out of line.’
‘Oh, Delaney-san, um, why did you decide to come to the Agency? I mean, I understand why the Agency would want you, but why the Agency?’

This sounded wildly unlikely but Delaney didn't push. He shrugged and waved. "Alright, if you're sure."
Delaney went through the park for his morning run. The running blade attached to his leg made a conspicuous gliding noise when he brought it up and down but people cleared out of his way fast, which he appreciated. After 50 minutes of this he found a shady spot under a tree and paused for a rest, chest heaving. He was soaked but the wind was cool. It was the time of year when birthdays drew close. He shut his eyes against the gut punched feeling and looked around for someone to yell to.
As per the advice from his friends and family, Matthew had to be out of the house and away from the energy drinks. The one place he could think of immediately that was least likely to have that was the park. He meandered for awhile, trying to soak in the nature. He was curious of the man resting against a tree, but his instincts told him to not bother the guy. Matthew followed his gut and after a quick glance, he walked by the tree and still on the path.

Delaney winced and rubbed the back of his neck. “It’s alright. I’m still getting used to the prosthetic…I just wanted to be sure it was alright.” He pushed himself up and tapped the tip of the artificial foot on the floor. “Feels fine to me.”
Still slightly shaken up by the prosthetic leg, she unconsciously grew slightly more timid.
‘S-So, Delaney-san,’ she said, ‘um… When did you get that? Um, I-I mean, sorry-’
The ONE question she was trying to avoid asking can out of her mouth. She covered her face quickly and turned her head away, blushing deeply from embarrassment. She busied herself with a loose thread coming off her sleeve, trying her best not to pull it too much, but enough to busy herself.

The silence present as the wannabe-Poe ran out the door was deafening. The first thing Delaney did was grab Dakota's shoulder.
"Don't freak out," he said. "We're here and we're alive, and we're not seriously injured, please don't-"

…For some reason I’m getting the feeling we ought to talk with the Agency members about attitudes towards our cases, and perhaps death/murder in general. I wonder why.

"you were the one who investigated mr. kirkland's body, right? your second-in-command asked me to see if you found anything noteworthy."
Haha, I most certainly did! [Delaney appears to regard this entire thing as a joke…] He certainly put up a fight didn’t he! When his skull collided with the mirror he suffered a horrible head wound that probably ended in brain damage. He’s better off dead in my opinion but I don’t think that the head wound killed him, at least not straight away.
Most likely he drowned after the knife pierced his lung. The sac filled with blood and the rest as they say is history! Ah-hahaha.
It takes several minutes to die from a pulmonary edema. I can’t imagine the killer left it to chance either so Arthur likely died with the killer standing over him. The head wound sped things up but from my experience the pierced lung is a much more likely culprit. We would need a medical examiner to tell us more.
[Delaney leans back and smiles.] Anything else?

Delaney found himself staring at the ceiling in befuddlement. He couldn’t see Mimi but he could hear her voice. Had she blinded him again?
He gave a thumbs up anyway in case she was worried. “Perfectly fine,” he wheezed. He sat up and felt the end of his leg where it transitioned into the prosthetic leg, exposing the metal to the air when he pulled his pantleg up. It seemed okay.
Out of the corner of her eye, Mizuki saw something metal. She turned her head and saw the prosthetic leg.
‘Kyaaa!’ She yelped, scrambling up, before realising how her reaction may have seemed. ‘I’m sorry, it… it was just, um… Uh…’ Thoughts were flying around in her head at a million miles an hour. ‘A-Are you sure you’re okay?’ she asked, once her thoughts were somewhat calming down, ‘I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to act like that, it was a shock.’

Most likely but that's inevitable in a house this small. There's little privacy here.
What's more interesting is that the killer had the foresight to attack Arthur in the bathroom. They're ideal places to commit murder. Lots of hard surfaces as Arthur found out.
Results on Arthur’s body
He suffered a horrible head wound that probably would have ended in brain damage. He’s better off dead in my opinion but the head wound certainly isn’t what killed him. Most likely he drowned after the knife pierced his lung; the sac filled with blood and he couldn’t breathe through it.

The noise must have been incredible. I wish Dakota and I had heard it while falling asleep.

Pretty obvious what happened. He's better off dead to be perfectly honest.
>end investigation
I'll examine the body. It's probably in rigor mortis by now.
You decide to investigate the body.
Arthur is leaning against the bathtub, in a sitting position. His head is bleeding, and there are multiple knife wounds on his chest.
What will you do?

He probably drowned once the knife perforated his lung. Not a nice way to go.
