a2 ~a due~ review
Recently I've been getting into the visual novel and otome dating game scene and decided to try out this game. Upon first viewing I wasn't really a fan of the art style but that's more of a personal preference. I can see the clear art inspiration from early manga and anime. I decided to download it on my phone since its more accessible to me than my laptop.
I started the app and it went smoothly, the music and the title screen were quite pleasant. I started and I was determined to get the ??? End first since I like to do the best endings last so I can put the game away with a good memory. At times it did feel slow but it wasn't too long really so it didn't feel tiring to play.
-----------------------Spoiler------------------------
Around the last third of my ??? Play through i felt kind of guilty since I kind of felt that Hao had more to his story and feelings. The end was surprising, but the twist wasn't too bad and didn't hurt. ??? End hurt the least out of all of them probably like a 2 pit of 10 pain wise.
I then set off to do the friend route. Alot of the dialog was the same so I could easily just skip through. When it did start to veer from the last route I was touched by the relationship that began to blossom. It was kind of confusing at times having to remember what each music word was but there was a in game dictionary so it wasn't too bad. When the call came in that the show was canceled I felt crushed since I felt like it was all for nothing and it sucked, but then I remembered the money from the beginning of the game and I knew where this was going. It was sweet to see how Sona was willing to die at the hands of the loan sharks to let the orchestra go on. Its sad that the show didn't happen anyways, but atleast they made a promise to see eachother again so I guess it wasn't too bad. On a pain meter this was a 4 out of 10.
Finally I played the love route and oh boy. Most of the friend and love route was the same except for the very end. It was nice that the show went and it was cute to see sona in something other her regular sprite. When she kissed Hao during the show I really related with her and how she was so spur of the moment, but immediately trying to pass it off as nothing when it backfires. The music room scene had me shedding a few tears especially with the I didn't laugh note. I was crushed knowing that Sona didn't make it and get to say goodbye. Hands down most painful route maybe a 6 or 7 on the pain scale.
-------------------final thoughts--------------------
Sona: I absolutely loved her design and how unapologetically punk she is. She had a tough attitude and I felt that I especially related to her. At times yeah she felt a little annoying with how headstrong she was but I feel like that also made her character admirable.
Hao: Adorable I love him. In the beginning he was funny with how he threw chairs and I felt like I've met teachers like him. As we got deeper into his character he really started to grow on me more than just a funny character that I didn't understand.
Do I reccomend: Yes, not too long maybe a 4 hour play.
Final comments: Racist got beat and I got to play a punk girl with a mowhawk what else can I ask for lol.
