MollyBeth Headcanons
A/N: They have me in a chokehold so here's some ramblings about an AU where Molly leaves with her because I haven't posted headcanons in so long. Spoilers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mary-Beth has a penchant for sticking to the downtrodden, quiet types. Molly is no different, as her facade cracks and the lonesome, nervous girlchild inside of her starts to show. Knowing Arthur is terminally ill, Dutch is spiraling uncontrollably, and Molly is losing the rose-colored glasses, Mary-Beth goes against Karen's advice and asks her to leave Beaver Hollow with the rest of them.
Molly's past jealousy of the other woman and is yearning for someone to hate Dutch the same way she does. Who else could, but her? Mustn't Mary-Beth feel discarded, too? (She does, and she doesn't.) And it would hurt Dutch to be left. She knows it would. He's left her, in a way.
Molly can't face her family, not after this long without writing. They must think she is dead. Mary-Beth offers to let her tag along with her, intending it to be only until the next thing comes along. Molly doesn't know how to live without someone to tell her what to do and when, how, where, why— Mary-Beth is no man and no governess, but she will have to do.
Mary-Beth is quick to find that Molly has no fire. She does, somewhere deep inside, but that's precisely the issue: deep inside. She's unhappy all the way down to that fire. It takes months for Mary-Beth to get her to stop appeasing everyone to avoid more trouble, including her. It's only then that they begin to have actual conversations about Dutch, and the three of them; the world, and the two different ones they come from; and about life.
Around, then, too, Molly starts to think Mary-Beth may not hate her. In reality, her own loathing-cloaked jealousy is beginning to vanish. Mary-Beth has lacked respect for her at times, sure, but hate is too harsh. She softens the more Molly softens. It's when Molly shyly asks if they can do each other's hair that it clicks into place how lonely the woman is, and how many jagged teeth that loneliness has.
Molly is in the TRENCHES realizing she likes women. Let alone Mary-Beth, who pickpocketed every cent that got them set up in a Saint Denis tenement (oh, how the reality of poverty stung). She was jealous of the women lacing each other's corsets in the mornings, thinking of how tightly Dutch laced hers and how much better a woman would do it more than her longing to feel a sisterhood. Why can't she bring herself to see anything bad in the hard muscle in her arms? Why does she daydream about defending Mary-Beth to her family?
Mary-Beth has an easier time of accepting it. Sure, it's new. If it's happening, though, it must be something that happens. It's when she steps back from a rough draft and comes to realize she's been writing Molly by a different name that she reconsiders all those fleeting thoughts she's had: how easy it was to write about her beauty and her sadness; why she feels like she's found her place in the world when Molly cries at her shoulder and opens her heart and says I don't know what to do. Why does it hurt that she hasn't got the answers to hush her with?

Maybe I’m alone in this, but I feel like some of the issue in some of the missions could have been fixed if it was one or more of the ladies who helped out.
This is about the other women of the gang besides Sadie.
It wasn’t Bill’s fault that the dynamite didn’t go out - that was Arthur’s - but damn,
Abigail knows how to work with explosives. She knows how to shoot and is known by Hosea to be the greatest actress and schemer he’s ever known. She’s an insanely good thief and a survivor.  Abigail is also one of the guards at Beecher’s Hope and I imagine she’d have no issue with guarding camp. Literally -all she had to do was someone watch Jack which she was ORIGNALLY supposed to have. She had missions. Entire missions cut.
Tilly can shoot and is a great planner. She is incredibly clever and good at thinking on her feet, too. She is one of the most successful and underrated members of the gang. She know what risks to take and what not. I would argue she has one of the more successful robbery missions. That’s not counting her bravery with helping Arthur and the Marstons - especially at the end of the game.
Karen already had her role. Her bank mission is beloved and very active. We know she is one of the guards. She seems well rounded and has had a lot of time dedicated to her, imo. She’s very complicated and I love that.
Mary-Beth was a bit lacking, but was allegedly a very good thief as well according to what Arthur says. I think she was pretty weak willed and she did have to be rescued/almost rescued so I don’t really see as much strength in her as is. The strongest reaction I’ve seen is her reacting to character deaths, antagonizing and losing a game. HOWEVER, not every character has to be major or “strong” - which can have many definitions.
Even Molly was good at acting - in a way - according to the deleted audio I posted. I think her being high born gives her skills the others don’t have. No matter how good their acting, Molly has an advantage as far as having to fit into upper-class society. (Although there is the anti-Irish sentiment). That is why she was originally at the mayor’s party. The women in the game (outside of Sadie) should have had so much more to do. I don’t think they would have run into the same pitfalls the men would have - but they may have had their own struggles.  (I know I didn’t mention Grimshaw, but I feel she’s fleshed out.)

Sadie’s letter to the men in the gang in Chapter 5
Tumblr media
Dear Uncle Tacitus, I do so hope that you enjoyed your vacation. Lucky you! Leaving like that and you always suggested you were too hold for travel. I hope you and your cousins enjoyed yourselves. Me and your grand nieces have decided to take of our own as the place has become so dreary and godforsaken in your absence. We have gone to visit relatives (from my Daddy’s side. You are not yet acquainted with them) in Lakay, a small village just north of Saint Denis. It’s buggy and muggy, but apparently neither is too bad at this time of year. Please come see us when you can. Yours sincerely, Caroline Meta: Damn, her handwriting is beautiful and I think it’s so interesting how much she capitalizes in a sentence. It’s seemingly random. Some handwriting expert could probably really analyze it, but considering that I have heard these are created through a computer software program, that may not mean much? Not sure. Sadie is clearly educated at some point - not sure how formal or not, but I think that’s awesome, especially for the time period.

If you're still taking Red Dead asks could I plz have some headcanons for Molly? She's just so sad and I love that romantic Irish lass that got in over her head.
Hey! Here ya go. I've written some other Molly one's here, if you're interested. Hope you enjoy!
Expect Molly to write random poems for you when the moment strikes her. Dutch did not appreciate them, but the moment she realized she had an interested reader, the romantic in her turned her attention to you instead.
Loves to dance! We see her dancing with Dutch in quite an intimate way; with you, it's timider as she's new to relationships with women. However, she gains confidence quickly, and it's not long until she's grabbing you by the arm to dance with the cozy fire sparking behind the two of you.
The woman can't cook, and who's surprised? No one. However, she has become quite a good thief. Even if you can't cook, it's bound to be better than half the stuff Pearson makes. She's always trying to find spices she can discretely place into a pouch for the evening.
She's no forager, but if you have the skills, she'd love you to teach her! If you don't know how to forage, she'd love to find a book so you can learn together…..as long as someone like Charles or Hosea approves your findings before using them.
She knows Gaelic and is passionate about keeping the language alive. She'll call you terms like A chara (My treasure) or "A rúnsearc" (My Secret Love.) or phrases like "Is ceol mo chroí thú" (you're the music of my heart"). Gaelic is a beautiful language and very poetic, just like her. She will teach you some if you're truly interested, but she also likes being able to have a language that is her little secret with you. Source here.
Her favorite candy is chocolate-covered strawberries or strawberry bonbons, but she knows they're incredibly rare. However, you always save up (or steal) some for her when you go to town.
She loves tea. One of her love languages is making you a cup of tea after a rough day. She doesn't have a lot of it, but she certainly can get a hold of some of it from time to time.
Molly loves needlepoint art! She had quite an impressive sampler back in Ireland. She has definitely left little surprises like her latest project in your tent. She wouldn't mind learning to crochet gloves or even a blanket.
She can play the piano and loves to sing. She'd sound good with some of the other gang members if she joined in with their songs. It's a shame she's rarely around pianos. It's something she has in common with Abigail.
She can be overprotective and sometimes a little overbearing. She doesn't mean to be; she's just tired of losing people in her life. At least you appreciate it more than some people in the gang….

Hi could I get fallout 4 companions with a sole survivor that's really good at cooking/baking? Even though there's a lack of resources they're always able to make a tasty meal :)
FO4 Companions reacting to the Sole Survivor's cooking/baking skills:
Cait
Cait is initially skeptical, but she’s absolutely delighted when she tastes the Sole Survivor’s cooking.
She’ll tease you for being “too fancy” but can’t resist taking an extra serving of whatever’s on offer. Even with limited ingredients, she can sense the effort and love put into the dish.
Cait will often ask for something hearty, like a meat stew, and once she’s had a taste, she’ll go on about how it "hits the spot" after a long day of fighting.
Codsworth
Codsworth is always delighted when the Sole Survivor whips up something to eat, and he’ll politely offer his assistance, even if he’s not sure how to cook.
Whilst he can’t taste the food himself, he’ll always compliment the cooking, saying things like “It smells absolutely divine!” and offering praises for every dish.
Every meal becomes an opportunity for him to “fluff and polish,” ensuring the setting matches the quality of the food.
Curie
Curie is fascinated by cooking, always eager to learn new techniques, even if she sometimes gets things mixed up due to her scientific curiosity.
She loves the idea of making food “delicate” and “scientifically perfect,” so she’ll happily offer advice while watching you bake or cook.
Curie’s delighted with any dish, but if you make something with vegetables or fruits, she’ll be thrilled, claiming it’s “just like the old world” and perfect for a healthy life.
Paladin Danse
Paladin Danse is a bit of a meat-and-potatoes kind of guy, but he quickly learns to appreciate the Sole Survivor’s culinary prowess.
He’s always impressed that the Survivor can make something delicious out of practically nothing, but he’s especially fond of simple, hearty meals like roasted meat or stews.
Danse feels a little awkward about accepting the food at first, but once he digs in, he’s hooked. He’ll show his gratitude with a firm handshake and a grunt of approval.
Deacon
Deacon is totally into the fact that the Sole Survivor can create a good meal even when supplies are low. He’s all about resourcefulness and loves seeing the creative dishes that come out of seemingly nothing.
He’ll often make light-hearted jokes, suggesting you could sell your cooking as a new "underground recipe" in the Commonwealth.
Deacon’s definitely a fan of whatever is made with spices or anything that packs a punch—he loves the unexpected flavors.
Dogmeat
Dogmeat may not have a sophisticated palate, but the Sole Survivor’s cooking always makes him wag his tail and give an excited bark.
He particularly enjoys anything with meat in it, and even if it’s just a bit of leftover stew, he’ll happily share in the meal.
He’s a loyal taste tester and might nudge at your leg with a hopeful whine if he thinks there's any leftover scraps.
John Hancock
Hancock loves a hearty meal, and the Sole Survivor’s cooking quickly becomes one of his favorite parts of the day.
He’ll joke that “you’re the real hero of the Commonwealth” every time you serve him something tasty.
Sweet treats like pies and cookies have him absolutely hooked—he’s got a soft spot for anything that feels like a little piece of the past.
Robert MacCready
MacCready’s not exactly a food snob, but he’s very impressed when the Sole Survivor manages to create something edible out of the wasteland’s limited ingredients.
He’ll give a sarcastic comment at first, but after one bite, he’s all about the meal. He’s particularly fond of anything that’s spicy or has some heat to it.
He’ll often try to get you to make something “big and filling” since he’s always thinking about his next meal.
Nick Valentine
Nick is a man of simple tastes, but he definitely appreciates a well-cooked meal. He’s especially impressed when the Sole Survivor can bake something using barely any ingredients.
He’ll quietly savor each bite, complimenting you on your skill with a quiet, “You’ve got a real knack for this, kid.”
Nick loves anything with a bit of sweetness, like a nice pie or dessert, especially if it reminds him of the days before the war.
Piper Wright
Piper is overjoyed by the Sole Survivor’s cooking skills, and she’ll write about it in her journal, claiming that it’s “the best thing since sliced bread”—even if there’s no bread to be found.
She’s big on comfort food, so anything that’s hearty or filling is her go-to. She’ll always ask for seconds and enthusiastically praise your cooking.
She also loves to bake with you and will insist on trying her hand at recipes, even if they don’t always turn out quite as well as yours.
Preston Garvey
Preston is always grateful for a warm meal, especially when resources are tight. He’s definitely a fan of stews or dishes that have a good balance of protein and vegetables.
He’ll often tell you that “this kind of meal is just what we need to keep going.”
Preston might even offer to help cook, especially if it involves something he knows, like preparing simple meat dishes.
Strong
Strong, while mostly focused on his search for “milk of human kindness,” is deeply impressed when the Sole Survivor manages to cook up something that smells even remotely appetizing.
He’s not picky—anything with meat or something that can be gnawed on gets a thumbs-up from him.
Strong might even try to take a larger share of the food than everyone else, but he’ll show his appreciation with a grunt or a satisfied “good food, human.”
X6-88
X6-88 is more focused on his duties as a Courser than on food, but he quietly respects the Sole Survivor’s ability to prepare meals, especially given the wasteland's limited resources.
He’s practical, so he’ll appreciate whatever you make, but don’t expect any outward praise. He’ll simply state that the meal is “efficient.”
He prefers meals that are straightforward and no-nonsense—like grilled meat or something simple but nutritious.
Ada
Ada is fascinated by the idea of cooking in the wasteland, especially since she’s a robot and can’t taste anything herself. But she’s all about making sure the meal is “perfect” and will offer helpful suggestions.
She enjoys watching you cook, often pointing out how the ingredients could be optimised for better results. But when you bake something sweet, she’ll describe it as “incredibly efficient nourishment.”
Ada is especially impressed with any food that’s meticulously prepared or has a technological flair to it.
Automatron
Like Ada, Automatron lacks the ability to enjoy food, but they still value the efficiency and resourcefulness behind the Sole Survivor’s cooking.
They’re always keen to learn about the process and might even suggest improvements based on their mechanical knowledge.
Automatron might take notes as you prepare meals and will offer praise for any dish that has a perfect balance of ingredients.
Old Longfellow
Old Longfellow is a man who’s seen it all, and he’s particularly fond of a hearty, no-frills meal after a long day. He’ll often ask for simple dishes like fish, stews, or roasted meat.
He’ll quietly sit and enjoy the meal, nodding in approval after each bite, but he doesn’t always have much to say about it.
If you make something with seafood or something that reminds him of home, he’ll reminisce about the “good old days” in Far Harbor.
Porter Gage
Gage loves anything that’s simple and easy to prepare, but he’ll be downright impressed when the Sole Survivor manages to make something “top-tier” out of almost nothing.
He’s got a taste for bold flavors, so anything with a spicy kick or unique ingredient will catch his attention.
Gage might joke about you opening a restaurant in Nuka-World, but he’s genuine when he says you’ve got skills that most people in the wasteland can only dream of.
♡If you liked this fic, please consider buying me a coffee! Ko-fi ♡

They really made a character like Arthur Morgan and not only gave him crippling self esteem issues, but they gave him confidence so low that he doesn't share his passions with anyone ever.
Like what do you mean Arthur loves to write but thinks he writes like a fool?
What do you mean Arthur loves to draw and is really talented but he doesn't see it that way?
What do you mean Arthur loves the smaller things in life but doesn't feel like he's deserving of good things?
What do you mean there was a whole different side to Arthur that the people he cared about rarely got to see?
What do you mean he lived and died with parts of his life tucked away tight in the pages of the journal that only one other person has ever been able to read?
What a tragedy.

thinking about how fallout 4 is 1000% geared towards men but what is more devastating than a new mother who has lost her husband and her child in a single day. what is more powerful than a woman in a completely new world fighting anyone and anything to get her child back. what is more painful than having to destroy the very son you've been desperate to return to. female sole survivor will forever be on top because we've all seen the male war veteran loses his family story. what about the new-mother lawyer who's never experienced war waging it across a world she doesn't even recognize anymore to get her family back together. what about that
