Seeing friends go hardest on their bunny hutch costumes and making some REALLY cool stuff for it is one of my favorite lead ups to dragon!

I love how the Bunny Hutch event at Dragon Con (make playboy bunny or hugh hef versions of a character) could have been skeevy, but instead, it gets progressively more deranged (affectionate) each passing year. Just saw someone's WIP for a sexy Pinesol bottle.

The perfect Izutsumi cosplay doesn't exis-

Early this year I made a quick kitty-sized Izutsumi cosplay to match the Laios cosplay I made last summer. With hand modeling by @soul-of-sin who owns this cat and also is one of my BFFs!

Personality-wise, this kitty is actually very much like Izu; she's picky, especially about who she trusts, and takes a while to warm up. She dislikes being picked up, except by people she really loves. The photo of her on my shoulder is the end result of three years living with her!

Most photos and all edits by me. I handed my camera to a friend to get the photo with me in it.

We've been invited this year to be guest judges for the craftsmanship contest :D I'm very happy to announce that we will be doing a (individual) feedback panel as well for our competitors, which is something I always want out of a contest

We are also going to be joining in on the illustrious @ladycels embellishments panel!

Uhh long time no post. But it’s that time of year again soo.. new cosplay reveal!!

Marcille!! Yeah baby!!!! I’ve been cracking out this costume pretty consistently since February. Finished her about 2 months ago (April 2025) but didn’t quite get a chance to get any photos as her and do a wear test until now (Florida weather and job things getting in the way per usual)

Got a few things I’m gonna update before I take her to the con (the belts need some desperate remaking). But I will be wearing her to Metrocon for those that care..

Best investment for this cosplay were these prosthetic elf ears. I’m gonna get so much wear out of these bad boys: Marcille, Frieren, any outfits for ren fest ever.. They’re so much comfier to wear with a wig compared to those ear cuff ones I had before.

Fun fact almost everything for this costume (for the fabric) was thrifted! The dress and cape were made using bedsheets and pillowcases from Goodwill. I found the shoes at Goodwill as well. The linen pants were found at a local thrift, I just hemmed them and added an elastic channel at the bottom. The most expensive part of this costume was the wig, which is also the longest wig I’ve ever worn. I put so many hours into crimping and treating this wig before styling to keep it tangle free and so far it has stood up to the test!

Might drop a process post on this costume, but honestly I don’t know that I will since it was made using a premade pattern and didn’t really require me to make up anything like Frieren did. But if you have any questions about the process I can answer as well.

Replica of Galadriel's silver gambeson costume from season 2 of The Rings of Power

I am so, so proud of this creation. The idea of "screen-accuracy" is a myth for many reasons, but something magical happened throughout this process, where I think I got about as close as a single person can to replicating a screen-worn costume (that originally took a whole team to build!) I was able to source remarkably similar materials, from the foiled linen to the 4mm chainmail, and a lot of testing and practise really paid off in the final version.

And I learned a lot! This was my first time doing trapunto quilting, and my first time doing any kind of chainmail work (and I am eternally glad I did not have to do every single ring by hand, oof!) The embroidery was probably the smallest I've ever worked, but it was a delight to be staring at Michele Carragher's work again (last time was Daenerys)

Chasing perfection can be frustrating and often futile, but there were so many places I was glad I slowed down, redid something, tried again, triple-checked measurements... it was absolutely worth it.

I am very grateful to both my friends who sent me reference photos from the SDCC exhibit last year, and to the Rings of Power costume team for posting behind the scenes tidbits and even responding to my emails. I could not have made this as faithfully without that help!

If anyone has questions about this build process, I have video logs already posted as well as progress photos, and I'm happy to talk more about it!

And up next, I'll be adding alllll of Galadriel's accessories that she has earlier in the season: cape, belts, quiver, and bracers. I'm excited for more embroidery and leatherwork in my future!

craft foam scale mail(le) tutorial

so for some reason blackwall has a scale mail(le)* loincloth. idk why, maybe people like to kick him in the balls or something, who knows.

if you’re made out of money and time (time being the same thing as money, so double money or double time, i guess), you can just buy scale making supplies from the ring lord or something, which can be pricey and take a while, or you can try to figure out some other way to do it.

i didn’t want to spend like $40 on scales that would look too real next to the rest of my fake foam armor, and i didn’t want to spend a billion hours weaving a skirt with rings and little metal pieces, so instead I decided to do it on the cheap and instead of like $40 i paid less than $5 for the materials i used since i had most of it on hand for my other armor, anyway. idk i think it looks just fine and is much less heavy than actual metal would have been. here’s a closeup.

i own a sillhouette portrait cutting machine i bought on sale from amazon a couple years ago, so i was curious if it would be any easier to do it this way, since i was making the shape in illustrator anyway…

so here’s what i did:

STEP 1- Vector scale mail(le) shape thing in Illustrator and scale (HAR HAR) it to how big i wanted it to be. the line up the middle is a crease line, which will make more sense later.

STEP 2- figure out how many scales i would need by arranging them in rows.

STEP 3- figure out cutting area i had to work with and arrange scales in rows on artboard.

STEP 4a- export to dxf format so silhouette machine can cut it.

STEP 4b- alternately, you can print scales onto paper to use as a template for tracing and cutting by hand.

(more under the cut so this doesn’t get long, including pics of what it looks like finished AND because i’m nice also there’s a jpg template at the end if you want to trace some scales AND the vector file i used to cut these in case you have a machine and want to make your own.)

A year ago today I got my first (and only) Galadriel swatch - and look how far we’ve come!

Yes, this costume has been a year in the making, and you know what, I love that timeline. I love working slow and focusing on the details, crafting something that will last for years and years, and holding myself to that high standard.

There will be more pieces added to this costume later this year (cloak, bracers, belts, quiver) but for now I’m sooo excited that version 1 will soon be wearable! I’m aiming to bring this to both ConnectiCon and Fan Expo Boston 🙌
