  So, obviously Sweet pea being Dilton Doiley’s memorial was a sight on it’s own but one of the Serpents had supposedly known the boy and after being begged to joing them even bribed with cigarettes and booze Sweet pea finally caved and found himself awkwardly staring off into space while Northsiders surrounded him trying, as rules applied to be happy.    “Seems kind of fucked to just expect people not to act sad.” Pea said shoving one of the provided snacks in his mouth. He hadn’t known Dilton well so his emotions hadn’t been effected except when it came to how the other died, a strange death indeed. “I mean. It’s depressing as hell.”  

“no one is arguing that,” betty said through pursed lips ; arms wrapped tightly around herself as if conserving heat in a room that was, to be frank, stifling. this whole thing was messed up, and she obviously wasn’t the only one feeling it ; the familiar southsider putting voice to the very thought that she could never share. “the doiley’s are burying their son. i guess they don’t want to be more sad than they already are.”

she wasn’t expecting company. not so soon, anyway - and certainly not so far away from the main gathering. betty had waited until the crowd had become focused on freshly laid out refreshments to slip away, and had found dilton’s office ( it didn’t look much like one ) fairly easily. she had shut the door behind her as some sort of wayward precaution - not realizing, until her arms were elbow deep within a filing cabinet and her heart had jumped thoroughly out of her chest, that it was still JUST as easy sneak up on her. “shit-” she almost cracked her head against the corner of the cabinet, the appearance of another guest sending a sudden jolt through her. she had milliseconds to decide how to play this- “would you believe me if i said, i got lost looking for the bathroom?”
