At long last, here is my catalog for Brooklyn Anime Fest! I'll be tabling there this Saturday July 27th from 10 am to 8 pm with @mowuune, at table 41!

My Little Pony: Chaos is Magic pt 3 ( pt 1 | pt 2 )

Thorny Rose (Amy) and Twin Tails (Tails) are close friends of Sonic Speeds', and fellow trainee knights. The three of them began training at the same time, fueled by their shared determination to protect the peace of Equestria. More details below the cut!

Thorny Rose, being an Earth pony, possesses great strength, which allows her to use heavier equipment than the Pegasi or Unicorn trainees can. Her weapon of choice is a hefty hammer imbued with magic that summon winds or grow plants, which she wields with a level of skill even her Earth pony peers can't seem to match. She is training to be a royal guard alongside Sonic Speeds, as she wishes to use her might to defend Equestria and the people she loves from any harm that may come their way. She's protective, and proud, and not afraid to speak her mind. At one point in their friendship she fostered feelings of love for Sonic Speeds, but he was clear about his disinterest, and she moved on quickly, having more pertinent things to worry about. Now, she merely admires him- and chastises him when his ego gets him in trouble. She's had to save him from sticky situations more than once.

Twin Tails, though still fairly young, has great talent in mechanics and engineering, so rather than undergoing physical training to join the guard himself, he instead works towards improving the technology of the Equestrian army. He studies more closely under Prince Brilliant Mind than most of the other trainees, as the Prince has a similar talent, being the one responsible for developing much of the weaponry, armor, and other machinery currently being utilized by the royal guard and Equestrian army. Twin Tails idolizes the prince for his intellect and ingenuity and longs to be as great an inventor one day, but he also looks up to Sonic Speeds, who has been like an older brother to him for much of his life, quite a bit. His lack of physical might at times makes him feel inferior to his friends who are training to fight for Equestria on the frontlines, but he puts his all into supporting them with his magic-imbued inventions.

When Sonic Speeds is sent on his quest to find Midnight Star, his friends stay behind in the royal city, worriedly awaiting his return.

Equestria has long endured tensions with the umbrum, and though violence has largely been avoided, the situation has become untenable. In a bid for peace, King Eclipse (Gerald Robotnik) proposes something to the ruler of the umbrum, King Comet (Black Doom). They will use magic to create a half-pony half-umbrum child- their own spawn- who will serve as the liaison between their peoples and represent the hope for lasting unity between their kingdoms. King Comet agrees to this, and Prince Midnight Star is born.

The two rulers spend much time together raising their son and improving their kingdoms' relations. King Comet even begins wearing jewelry bearing the symbols of the Equestrian royal family (the eclipse, stars, moons). All seems to be going well, and an era of peace seems to at last have been heralded across the land. But it wasn't to last.

Soon after the true extent of Midnight Star's magical prowess makes itself known, the palace suddenly finds itself under siege from the umbrum army. King Comet wishes to take his son and use him as a weapon to conquer all of the world, all strides towards peace and harmony eschewed in favor of greed and lust for power. In the struggle to protect the prince, many are killed, with the final casualty being Princess Fragile Dawn. Face to face with the king of the umbrum, the young princess refused to back down, standing bodily between father and son and protecting her brother with all her might.

It wasn't enough.

The moment her body fell to the ground, a piercing cry filled the stagnant air, and a burst of magic so strong and bright it was seen across Equestria consumed the entire castle. Once the light faded and the dust settled, each and every umbrum within the palace was dead, including their king. When the guard and King Eclipse entered the throne room, they found the prince laying protectively over his sister's body, his horn shattered, his face wet with tears, and his head resting on her silent chest.

Sonic Speeds (Sonic) is a royal knight in training under Prince Brilliant Mind (Eggman), who serves as the captain of the guard because his underdeveloped horn made his magic too weak to handle the celestial duties of the royal family. Sonic Speeds's cocky attitude and foolhardiness has held him back from achieving his dream of being an elite guard despite his physical prowess, so he's desperate to prove himself to his mentor, by any means necessary. Eternal Night (Shadow) is the runaway half-umbrum prince of Equestria. He's on a quest for revenge after the death of his elder sister, Princess Fragile Dawn (Maria Robotnik), at the hands of his umbrum father, King Comet (Black Doom). His true name is Midnight Star, but he adopted a new moniker on his travels, as a way of hiding his identity and also to represent what he intends to bring upon the umbrum for taking his best friend from him. Brilliant Mind, who blames Midnight Star for Fragile Dawn's death and resents him for his great magical talent, sends Sonic Speeds on a near-hopeless quest to bring back his lost brother so justice can be served (and his own revenge for being outshone can be had). Through some miracle, Sonic Speeds actually manages to find him, and as he travels alongside the somber prince, attempting to convince him to give up his quest for revenge and go home (since attempting to force him to go would be... unadvisable), their relationship grows. He begins to doubt his mentor's convictions, but his sense of duty compels him still, and the day comes when he manages to persuade Midnight Star to return to the palace with him, unaware of what lies in wait...

I've got some more thoughts on Midnight Star's origins and the underlying history surrounding this series of events, but I'll save that for another post hehe. Stay tuned!

It's Pokemon Day, so I'm finally getting around to posting this PokeExchange 2023 (@secretstantler) piece I did for Flufferdoodle (AO3) on here as well!

The prompt was about Maylene trying to tough out the Snowpoint City cold like Candice can, even though she Really Really can't... After reading that, I wondered if Candice might carry that jacket around her waist around for something other than fashion, and this comic is what came out!

I designed a very self-indulgent TadaAi keychain and it serendipitously arrived just in time for Tadashi's birthday! Happy Birthday Snake (although the present is for me)!!! This was my first time trying out wooden charms, and they came out beautifully vibrant! The wood texture suits the design well too, so I couldn't be happier ❤️
