I bet if a mushroom could lap water out of your hand with a tongue that a gently drinking mushroom tongue on your hand would be the softest and gentlest thing.
Hello! I just wanted to thank you so much for your post explaining how to transition to cowash for one's hair! I'd heard before that washing with conditioner was supposed to be better for curly hair in particular, but I'd never been able to find an explanation of that that actually entailed, and I definitely did not do it right on my first attempt, resulting in a miserable time.
But THIS TIIME I had your helpful guide! I had no idea that the best tactic was to apply conditioner to the roots only first and just *scrub* for a while, no one had ever explained the elbow grease involved, and knowing that has been a LIFE CHANGER. I'm three weeks in, I can now sweat without it resulting in my hair drying greasy, my curls are coming in more resilient, my poor bleached-half-to-death hair *never* feels like straw anymore, and the most impressive thing: my scalp has stopped itching????
I've always been itchy all over my entire life. I thought that was just how it had to be. But three weeks into cowash, my scalp no longer itches, and it's got me rethinking every soap I have ever let touch my skin. (I'm pretty sure my dandruff has cleared up too, but more importantly, MY HEAD DOESN'T ITCH ANYMORE.)
So, again, thank you SO MUCH for putting the time into that post explaining how cowash actually works. It was super accessible and made so much sense that I just took the plunge and did the thing and it's had amazing results for me only a few weeks in. I am so incredibly grateful.
I'm so happy for you! Yeah, when I was first transitioning mine, it took a while to find a nice simple guide that actually laid out what you're supposed to do, step by step - the thing I found hard to confirm was that cowashing literally just means washing with conditioner instead of shampoo, rather than referring to a specific product. That, and trying to work out which products in the UK were safe, as it were, because all information I could find was American. And the mad thing is, once you have all those answers, it's actually very simple as a routine, but god is it complicated to work out before you start.
A friend of mine had exactly the same experience with the itching and the dandruff, btw. That's pretty common. The whole shampoo industry is an absolute sham.
In any case, you're very welcome, and I'm so pleased I could help! The next thing you'll find is that you turn into Rapunzel, it won't stop growing.
