having knowledge of music theory is so weird. I listen to songs now and I’m like “I IV iv bII ii07 I7. spiccy” or “oooooohhhhshiittttt that’s some SAucy modal mixture” and then my friends tell me that I’m not allowed to choose the music anymore

Brahms - Symphony no. 2 in D Major

Is it Brahms’ best symphony? Probably not. It’s his least popular of the four. Probably because it doesn’t hold as much of the power/angst of the others. But what it does have is a cheery, more lighthearted mood, leading some to call this his “Pastorale”. But Brahms, ever the sarcastic joker, warned his publisher, "is so melancholy that you will not be able to bear it. I have never written anything so sad, and the score must come out in mourning.” I will admit the second movement has some sense of melancholy, or nostalgia, and could be seen as a shift from pain to acceptance. But that isn’t enough to keep the mood down on a piece Brahms wrote over his summer vacation.

First body paragraphs: Eloquent, lovely. Unparalleled beauty in both diction and grammar. Thesis is strongly supported. Wide vocabulary. A semicolon is used. 

Last body paragraph: Short. Ugly. The crops are dying. Using the word “because” 56 times in only a few lines. Sentence structure whomst’ve? Forgot what my thesis says. In the distance, screaming
