Random Solo cuz I'm in the mood for writing
Title: Gold Malice
"What are you trying to say? I performed that piece damn well!"
Rich sighed, eyes retreating down to his folded hands resting on the edge of the oak dining table. "You're tempo was off at the end, too fast to ever be considered one of Debussy's pieces."
"So fucking what?! I'm not Debussy am I?! Because if I was, I'm pretty sure I'd be deaf from all the frikin playing you have me doing." Her voice was sharp and traveled through the room with ease. The pianist's voice was like that. Far from the classy, soft one you might expect from a musician of her stature.
"Airiana, dear, please don't raise your voice." One of her father's co workers pleaded, holding her glass to her forehead.
Clearly, the banquet last night was more enjoyable for her father's friends than for Airiana.
The previous evening's activities consisted of hundreds of  Internationals all aged seventeen or eighteen. The event was special because it was for charity. The engagement only consisted of the wealthiest people in the United States, there were always a few foreigners invited for sheer publicity though.
The young musicians all played a collection of at least two songs, the maximum amount of time allotted being four minutes. A lot of the pianists played the classic, all time greatest pieces from the most well known composers. Though, no musical soul ever tired from hearing the same piece over and over. Works of art they were.
Airiana's mentor had recommended Debussy because it was a larger event and few people could play those pieces perfectly. The timing was rididculously spaced, and even Airiana had difficulty with it. Her performance was as flawless as usual, the right tempo, the perfect hit of her fingers pressing upon the keys.
But of course, it was never good enough for Victor.
She shot a dark glare towards the woman who was nursing her hangover, Anne Mary, she thought her name was. "Dad, you know I played that piece better than anyone here." The brunette growled.
His eyes flashed upwards in between cutting off a piece of his omelet. "Really?"
The tone of his voice caught her off guard. She froze. Feeling a slight itch in her arm as she starred at him wide-eyed. The banquest table quieting as the tension rose. "Y-Yes. Yes, I'm sure."
Victor didn't say a word. He simply placed his fork and knife on his plate soundlessly before reaching into his jacket pocket and pulling out a sheet of paper, crisply folded.
Oh no.
No.
The results.
How badly had she placed? What musical genius surpassed her expertise? If their name was Claude, she'd be pissed.
"Tell that Sooki Kobayashi.." He said, the crinkling of the paper filling in the silence as it was passed towards Airiana. "And Christof Sinclair, and Ambrosia Seonini." Victor's voice was statuesque. Hard. Controlled.
Dissapointed.
She bit her lip, her expression reading immense concern. "Gimmie that!" The pianist snapped, snatching the sheet from the gentleman seated opposite her.
Her eyes darted up the page until her eyes met the fourth set of words.
Airiana Charlotte Matheson, performing Debussy's Arabesque, and Clair de Lune
Fourth place.
"I expected at least third, Airiana." Victor stated.
She just shook her head, her perfect chocolate waves settling on her shoulders. "I'm-I'm sorry..." The girl whispered, looking down at the fruit adorned pancake on her plate. Her appetite suddenly vannished.
"As you should be. I'm thinking we should call in Nicholas for seven days a week instead of six." He was tantalizing her. No doubt, he was threatning her. He could've been serious even.
She ignored the mispronounciation of her piano instructor's name.
"No, no, dad, please. I already practice for four hours a day." Her voice almost cracked. Airiana was surprised at how desperate she sounded. Piano punnishment was the worst especially when he blared Beethoven over her playing so she'd get confused and have to stay focused...
"Yes, but that includes Nicholas' time. You should be practicing six, three hours on your own." He stated again, taking another intimidating bite.
"But Da-"
"Do you know the duration of Sooki Kobayashi's practices?" He asked, narrowing his eyes at her.
She stopped. That same fear instilled within her for no apparent reason. Victor could implant terror in anybody with the sound of his voice. "Wai- What?" She asked, stumbling over her words.
"I said, do you know how long Mr. Kobayashi practices."
"N-No, but Dad I-"
"For-ty-nine, hours, a. wee-k." He eunciated perfectly, each syllable ringing in her ears.
Forty nine? Forty fucking nine? He can't be sane, that boy can not be sane. Piano drives even the normal ones insane, how could this kid stand seven hours a day of pressing keys?
Fuck Sooki.
"And here you are, priveledged enough to have Nicholas tutor you and all you do is bang your dainty little fingers on the keys for 28 hours a week." He spat, shutting his eyes in pure disgust.
There it was again. Nicholas.
"Dad, I'm trying so hard I swear!" She panicked, sucking in a breath. "It's just a lot between my classes and-"
"Ms. Ambrosia Seonini has a 4.5 GPA." He growled. "Your fine piano instructor graduated with a 4.6!!! A 4.6 Airiana! If Nicholas were here he'd-"
"It's Niklaus!" She shouted, slamming her fists on the table standing up in her chair.
Her father looked at her wide eyed. "Excuse me?"
"You heard me, it's Niklaus. Not Nicholas, Niklaus."
Victor looked at her hard for a moment, before seating himself back down and taking a sip of his morning god damn drink. "I'm not surprised you know how to scream it." He shrugged, pursing his lips at her.
What a fucking bastard.
Her fist came down on the table again as she wagged a finger. "You little fucking-"
"Airiana! Victor! What's all the fuss huh?" Niklaus grins walking in, in his typical leathery attire. "We should be celebrating hm? Fourth place is a fantastic win on Ms. Matheson's part." He said, grabbing a glass of water off the table and placing it in Airiana's hands. "Sit down, pet."
His voice was velvety smooth. The accent rolling off his tongue making her melt beneath herself. Even in the heat of the situation the mere sound of his voice was enough to shut her up.
"Actually, Nicholas funny you mention that. We were just talking about her poor performance." He smiled meeting Niklaus' eyes.
Damn him.
"Poor? I think it was fantastic! Did you see the way those simple hands created such a heavenly sound?" He mock gasped, but Airiana knew he was just trying to get Victor off her case.
"I heard far from heavenly, Nicholas. Her judgement was completely off on Arabesque and the only reason she did well on Clair de Lune was because of her appreciation for the sound. She perfected that one months ago." Victor explained.
Airiana bit her tongue. What she would do to pick up her glass and throw it at his head. Instead, she only reached for the glass givin to her by her mentor and took a sip of it.
"I think Airiana just got lost in the song. It is a beautiful song, and I think she played it very superbly. She may just require a little more practice."
Practice pfft.
He walked over as she took a sip and placed a gruff hand on her shouolder, sensual, gentle. Her head snapped towards it, flinching in response.
"She was beautiful." He said.
That made her bite her glass.
He rubbed a few slow circular motions on her shoulder before leaving his hand to rest. Didn't want to seem too obvious.
She turned to her father, a newly instilled confidence bestowed upon her thanks to Niklaus. "Thank you Niklaus." She said a smirk playing on her lips.

The brunette bit her tongue, restraining the urge to slander Kyle again. Airiana's attempts at trying to seem strong were failing her. She had no problem mouthing off to people she didn't like, but when it came to Stefan she felt genuinely bad. He was there for her when she seemed to have lost her way, he didn't deserve to be dealing with her crap.
"Yeah, I can promise you that." She muttered, keeping her eyes trained on her shoes with furrowed eyebrows.
Suddenly, she found herself thinking about Stefan. If Kyle hurt Stefan to get to Airiana... "Stefan, don't get yourself hurt because of me. Don't let him hurt you because of me. I don't want you to get hurt trying to help me..." The vampire said nodding to him.
Tumblr media
"Hey, don’t look at me like that. I’m just as pissed off as you are about him lying to me." Stefan tried to pull it off as him messing around, but he was pretty upset that Kyle lied to him. He trusts him and for him to lie about hurting his friend. It broke one of his few rules that he placed on Kyle. Maybe this wouldn’t work out.
Stefan was taken by surprise when Airiana wouldn’t promise that she would back away from Kyle. “I used to be a hunter too. Many, many moons ago. I know how he thinks. He won’t try to hurt you unless you engage with him first. And right now he’s on a path to kill you because you’re taking it too far.” Stefan lowered his head and he looked down at the ground. Trying to find the words he wanted to say. He looked up back at Airiana. “I care about you. More than I do for him. You’re like the little sister I never had. I’m not going to boss you around. All I’m going to say is to be careful and don’t get yourself killed. Can you at least promise me that?”

Oh, don't tell me you don't remember? You know, there was that... creepy dude inside you. Is that the write terminology? I don't know-...I just know you weren't you, y'know?
Tumblr media
I guess I understand that. I suppose I was thinking in the much more literal sense, in which you turn around and literally you're in a place completely different from where you were... But what do you mean left? Left where? Here?
A… not so good place? That sounds… not good.
Tumblr media
You know, I felt like I knew this town. All the people in it. It was familiar small town and that’s it. Now, it’s barely recognizable. I thought my life would change when I left. And you?

Well Vanessa, it's nice to meet you. And I should say you wouldn't want to be the new face around here. People tend to take advantage of those around here.

I’m Vanessa. The new face, I guess.

I feel you sister. I'm Airiana, and you are?

I don’t think I’ve ever been this isolated before in my entire life. Moving to a new town isn’t what I thought it’d be like at all.

Yeah, it's Airiana... We met when you were... Not so much in a good place...
Tumblr media
Well I suppose that depends on what your definition of "turning around and everything changing" entails...
The sky? Did you wanna share a little? Like, maybe, you own personal experience?
Tumblr media
It’s… Ariana or something like that, right? Your name, I mean.
