Toronto Graffiti Photo Shoot (My own idea)
For this Toronto graffiti photo shoot, I tried to get a theme and that was the different types of graffiti that represent or show a certain area in Downtown Toronto. Since downtown is pretty big, there is a lot of graffiti in different parts of the city and that graffiti can be really different from another area in Toronto. For example; the first image is only 5 minutes away from the photo of the palm tree graffiti. That photo was taken around OCAD (Art University). We can see that a certain art piece can really define an area from how complex the graffiti might be or simple. I also just wanted to take photographs of graffiti because I feel like it’s a really interesting art medium. As for the lighting, I tried to get the best lighting that would make the artwork pop or make it look good. As for the DOF, some of the images either have a pretty large DOF of somewhat short DOF. It depended on where the graffiti was. I didn’t really edit my pictures as much because I liked how the original photo looked but one image that I edited a bit more was the fifth one. I edited that one because I really wanted the black brick to pop in comparison to the white sheet that is ripped. I feel as though, I was pretty successful in finding some nice graffiti throughout downtown, as well as successful on how I took the image in some pictures such as cropping a bit etc. The best photo I would say is the first, second, fifth and seventh photo because I really like how the lighting falls on the photos, the colours and the fact that it’s cropped a bit. The least successful picture would probably be the fourth and ninth picture because there’s not much going on and it looks kind of boring.

Zooming In Photo Shoot
For this photo shoot, I was trying to challenge myself in trying to take pictures with the zooming in technique. I wasn’t trying to create a mood or feeling, it was more of experimenting with how an object or certain subject would look like close up. As for the technical/photographic considerations, I tried to get the best lighting as well as a really short DOF. For some images the lighting are either bright or a little bit darker and this was because of what I was taking a picture of and where I was taking the pictures. For the pictures, I only edited one image which is the zoom in of my mom’s hair. I wanted to make the highlights in her hair pop a little more as well make the image a bit darker because it was very bright. I feel as though, I was somewhat successful with a few photos such as the first, second, third and fourth one. In my opinion, I feel like the best photo is the first and fourth one because It’s zoomed in from a good distance especially since you can see the texture and what the subject is. The worst photo would be the last one because, it was taken from a distance and it seems like there’s a lot going on from the background and such.

Expressive Portraits
For the process of my expressive portraits project, I started off with asking the question first and then getting their answers. I felt like this was better for me to see exactly how to take the pictures, where to take the picture and how the models should be positioned for the camera. The portraits relate to what the person said because of the way their expression shows in the image. I wanted to express exactly what the person said and show a side of them that either represents them or show a side that no one has really seen. I achieved this through the environment and lighting because I tried to make the lighting also tell the story through what they were saying such as having a bright or dim light. Many of the pictures have a bright light or a light that falls on their face with them smiling. That is to show a happy side which goes back to the question I asked which was "What is one thing that makes you happy?". The other question I asked one of the models was "What is one thing that you regret from your past?". In that image I used one light which was position to fall on his face and make everything else a little darker. This made the question and image seem much deeper.

“One thing that I regret from my past is giving people this sense of worth, which I haven’t felt back from them. I feel as if I am always giving people that 100% and I’m hoping in the future it’ll be different.”

“Basketball is the one thing that makes me happy because of the amount of energy it brings to me and it gets me pumped up every time I play, which makes it very fun when I meet up with my friends. I also wish to become a NBA player one day.”
