Help get KOSA smashed to oblivion.
You make a difference in this. Every call and email counts. If you are UNDER 18 you can still call and email. If you’re queer or trans, please call. This bill will affect trans and queer youth. It will make being queer unsafe at home and on the internet.

An open letter to the President & U.S. Congress Vote No on the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) S.1409
I urge you to vote no on the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) S.1409. As reported in CNBC and Axios, this bill actively harms kids. Nearly 100 human rights and LGBTQ+ organizations, including the American Library Association, GLAAD, and GLSEN, signed an open letter opposing the prior bill in November 2022 because of how dangerous it is. On this new bill, Evan Greer (EFF) wrote, “I’ve read through it and can say unequivocally that the changes that have been made DO NOT address the concerns that we raised...” KOSA won’t make kids safer. This bill allows any state attorney general to sue any website for “harmful” content. When you have Republicans calling anything LGBTQ+ “sexual exploitation” or anything about race “CRT” to successfully remove books, teachers, and people from the public eye, it’s clear they will use this power to dictate what content platforms can show to minors. The Missouri Attorney General used “mental health” successfully to ban gender-affirming care, which will lead to skyrocketing suicide rates for trans youth. KOSA also hands more private data of children to social media platforms. Per the ACLU, “...the bill would legitimize platforms’ already pervasive data collection to identify which users are minors when it should be seeking to curb those data abuses. Moreover, parental guidance in minors’ online lives is critical, but KOSA would mandate surveillance tools without regard to minors’ home situations or safety. KOSA would be a step backward in making the internet a safer place for children and minors.”

IMPORTANT!
I’m writing to urge you to reject the Kids Online Safety Act, a misguided bill that would put vulnerable young people at risk.
KOSA would fail to address the root issues related to kid’s safety online. Instead, it would endanger some of the most vulnerable people in our society while undermining human rights and children’s privacy. The bill would result in widespread internet censorship by pressuring platforms to use incredibly broad “content filters” and giving state Attorneys General the power to decide what content kids should and shouldn’t have access to online. This power could be abused in a number of ways and be politicized to censor information and resources.
KOSA would also likely lead to the greater surveillance of children online by requiring platforms to gather data to verify user identity.
There is a way to protect kids and all people online from egregious data abuse and harmful content targeting: passing a strong Federal data privacy law that prevents tech companies from collecting so much sensitive data about all of us in the first place, and gives individuals the ability to sue companies that misuse their data.
KOSA, although well-meaning, must not move forward. Please protect privacy and stop the spread of censorship online by opposing KOSA.

I am genuinely extremely terrified of the KOSA bill. I can't stop thinking about it.
I know exactly why it's happening. It's because the U.S. Government seems to think that any content relating to LGBTQ+ issues are innappropriate and therefore require censorship. They want to censor US. They want the LGBTQ+ community to fizzle out because god forbid they have any "unnatural" people in their faux paradise.
Along with us, they want to drag down the internet, because they know that's the place where we're the most accepted.
This is not about safety.
This is not about protection.
This IS about erasure.
About exploitation.
About PURITY.
I am terrified.
I am terrified for my friends. For my family. For my identity. For my well-being.
But I am even more terrified for those living in bad homes. For those who can't be themselves in the real world. For our transgender and nonbinary friends, brothers, and sisters. For the children in upcoming generations who will live and silence and who will be blindfolded. Those children who will be unsafe no matter what they do.
Let me say this again, this is not about protection.
I know there are a million others who can explain it better than me. But I need to express how terrified I am of what this world is turning into.
This is not a problem to be ignored.
This is not a problem to scroll past.
This is a threat.

KOSA UPDATE
It passed the Commerce Committee markup with a unaminous vote. But this shit is far from over.
Keep calling your senators and representatives, email them, and POST about the KOSA bill and its dangers everyday until this tomfuckery is shutdown!
KOSA is dangerous as it now threatens end to end encryption, which means EVERYTHING we have internet is in threat of being compromised. We NEED to do something about it and even if you have anxiety, you can do something about. I did, and I felt like I was going to die as I was doing it, but I did it!
If you're not comfortable with calling, email them, sign petitions, post about it on social media. Blow KOSA up, it worked last time and that's why it didn't pass. So let's do it again!
We need action, our privacy and our safety is at stake! This goes beyond violating our 1st and 4th amendments!
STOP KOSA
STOP EARN IT ACT
STOP RESTRICT ACT
STOP CSAM
STOP COOPER DAVIS
These bills are a threat to kids AND adults and they need to be stopped! Keep calling, keep emailing, keep being a pain in their ass!
Edit: If this passes, it won't just affect Americans, this will affect everything and everyone worldwide. So even if you aren't American you can help us fight! You can call, email, and sign petitions!
Edit 2: No further moves are going to be made on KOSA until after August as Congress is on recess, but it WILL come back in September. So we need to keep pushing, we need to be loud! Keep calling and email your representatives and senators!

Okay so I did some research, very basic research, on the user base of tumblr and how many of us there are.
There are at least 300 million unique visitors worldwide on this site. Over 500 million blogs.
Listen. Tumblr is $30 million in debt. This is Super easy for us to solve.
If each user gifts one blog crabs, which costs slightly over $3, that would be roughly $600 million at least. Far more than enough to get Tumblr out of the red zone.
If we want tumblr to stay afloat and not change something as integral about their operating system, we need to show them they can be profitable without reducing themselves to common social media sites. What we have here is special. It is different. We are the social media site people run to when theirs collapses and for good reason.
If we want this to work, we have to make it work. We can even make it into a game. Just how long can we outlast the other social media sites?
