β΄ September 30, 2024. βΛΰ·
ΰ³ββ· today's stats ΰΌβ§β
π Subject: german.
π€ Time: 2h 12 minutes.
π Location: the hospital.
ΰ³ββ· work of the sesion ΰΌβ§β
lately my study has been interrupted by major forces, so i couldnβt go to uni or study while i am here (still here, just a little bit better).
I went days saying that i wanted to pick a new language to learn and everything push me towards german. Itβs my second day studying it and i fin it particularly fun, like a combination of my two main languages.
Iβm taking baby steps, figuratively and literally. I downloaded study cat (an app made for toddlers i believe) and make my progress like i the good old days: like a baby; but then i discover it was a payed app and delete it immediately.
In my search to feed the vampiric need of speaking this langague i look anywhere and everywhere for resources, thatβs what i found so far:
π₯ Memrise [Quick sentences to train your memory] i didnβt play with it properly.
π₯ Duolingo [Play with simple concepts and practice your pronunciation] β
β
β
ββ, it can be better.
π₯ DW learn german [little courses with quizzes that improve your reading and writing] β
β
β
β
β
π₯ sloeful.com [Quick and easy, has examples and practical vocabulary. β
β
β
β
β
π§: vienna ; billy joel
π€β check list
π₯ Do some research for resources.
π₯ Do one lesson of duolingo.
π₯ Do one lesson on memrise.
π₯ Take note of todayβs subject.
βΛΰ·ΰ³ββ· health ΰΌβ§β
i disappeared from the internet for a week or two because iβm at the hospital right now, making progress with myself but pretty much bored the whole time. Today is day 20, and i almost could believe that the first time i say it out loud but it is what it is. Iβm trying to make improvements to get back at uni with a good scheme and tools. But for now, iβm stuck here.

ΰ³ββ· work of the sesion ΰΌβ§β
Hi! Long time no see, guys!
I'm really happy because I finally took my first class of the critique seminar last Friday. I had to catch up because I'm actually late (the seminar started on Friday the 16th).
Anyway, the work of the session was smooth as butter, I just watched Borom Sarret, a great Senegalese short movie from the 60s, and wrote a little review about it. I focused mainly on the visual and socio-political aspects of the movie and I think I did a great job.
Our professor asked us to make a public account to show our progress in the semester, so I made a side blog! It's in Spanish though, so I don't know if anyone here wants to read it anyway, but I'm making it pretty just in case, you can find it in my pinned post at the very end!
Also, I didn't do proper study sessions and just went straight to finishing my work in one sitting while I was on a phone call with a friend. My next class is next Tuesday and I feel really good about it, before I was so scared for no reason and had so many absences, so I'm glad that changed for the better.

It's all fun and giggles until you have to edit for hours without a break because you had to kick out some work to focus on midterms.
that session was rough, but at least funny games [2007] is one of my safe movies when I don't know where to find inspiration: it's short, simple and cool. using premiere is honestly one of my weaknesses. i never paid attention when it came to doing exercises and almost always relied on my friends and silly little video editing apps, but not anymore!
today was the day, no questions, no distractions, just pure madness and 32onz of coffee in my system against this dumb ass assigment, and i did it!
[Should I do some kind of review of my study sessions? the movies I watch on it? Let me know if you want to know anything in particular, see you soon! (in a few hours unfortunately)]

ΰ³ββ· work of the sesion ΰΌβ§β
Hi, so today I did something different because I'm studying for one of my midterms, usually I divide my work into annotation vs flashcards and then I study like a maniac until I learn something new or die trying (metaphorically). So here is today's schedule.

βText to summarize: 5βstudy deadline: monday 20thβ
β‘ study block I:
β text count: 1/5.
I managed to summarize Christian Metz's monologue, it was pretty easy, but I need to break it down even more for me to fully understand it, I would pass the notes to flashcards later. The text talked about censorship in the history of cinema and the moral censorship that some filmmakers have with their own work, so it was nice, its easy to be a college level text and i find it pretty entertaining

β‘ study block II:
β text count: 3/5.
My girlfriend joined me to study, actually she just listened to me and did a little chatting to get me in theme and it was actually quite fun and as an enrichment I believe is a great way to study this of being heard by someone as a dialog ratter than a questionary.
I managed to finish my notes for 3 of the 5 required texts, and left the other two for tomorrow (they're quite complicated for me, actually boring if I'm honest, but that's it I guess?), and with that I just left the basic concepts and I'm supossed I'm ready for my midterm!

I finished my essay!
I have to admit that it was hard, but I finished one day before the due date, at some point I find myself trying to fill empty spaces because it was such a short fragment of the movie that I only had two or three interesting things to hang in my analysis, but I manage to get to 2271 words.
The class is tomorrow, so I'm a little nervous, even though I know they won't give us any feedback until next week, but I mean, how can I blame myself?
Anyway, I'm glad that I used the pomodoro method so much and wrote down my tasks from the most manageable to the least, I really think it improved my study routine! That's it for today, but I have a midterm coming up, so you'll see me around.

Ok, today was a super productive session, I finished 2 of the main essay topics in a row!
I think I function better when people are talking around me, and my friends made me some company while I was studying and they actually give me some good feedback and help with my analysis. The session was slow at first because I was a little lost and honestly started late for my liking, but from there I began to write a lot of things that made sense and sounded all academic and serious.
I find the dissection of a movie really entertaining because its something i honestly think im good at (i love oversharing and overthinking so it was smooth as butter) and now i have to think the dialog section, i will finish it before the deadline im so happy!
This is one of my favorite scenes in the movie and I actually suggested it to my professor, so I'm kinda proud, but I think that might put some pressure on me, but that's ok, I like challenges (sometimes). So that's it!

π€ Declutter my google drive and create folders for this semester's classes.

π€ Write down my weekly classes and set up a study routine to keep the bundaries with my school hours and my personal hours.
π€ Bring back my uni journal for my schedule and appointments in paper form.
π€ Clean up the notion page where I keep my master list of assignments.
ΰ³ββ· semester goals ΰΌβ§β
π€ Start making some flashcards for my finals.
π€ Schedule study sessions with my friends or myself at a cafe or library
π€ Trying to finish my bible for this year's short film
π€ Attend all my classes and stop scrolling through twitter while I'm at it.
π€ Follow my academic progress here on my blog and in my digital journals.
π€ Start an commonplace notebook for my ideas and thoughts.
π€ Find time to return to my storyboard journal.
π€ Keeping up with the readings and actually taking notes from the textbooks.
π€ Create a study plan for my sessions.
I think that will be all, trying to keep it simple for my mental sake. Good luck this semester to anyone reading this!

ΰ³ββ· work of the sesion ΰΌβ§β
I'm doing an essay called "The visual illusion of presumed innocence and the art of assembling a truth. An Analysis of Anatomy of a Fall (2023)" for my editing theory class, is technically a test for this semester, but im counting it as an assignment because it was left over this winter break (which ends in two days actually).
I'm a clumsy person when it comes to organization and college, so focusing on this paper for 2 hours was a lot for me (I made some pomodoro timers, with 5-10 minute breaks). Introducing and describing the scene was easier than I thought, and breaking down the analysis points that came in the guide was cool too. Now I have to highlight the important things I'm gonna use from the textbook and apply them to my essay without dying first or something.
It was a good session, I'll try to double it next time (tomorrow).
