Gavin scratched at the back of his neck and glanced down at his feet for a moment. In what felt like a desperate and pathetic attempt to not look like he was jumping at the chance. He still wasn't entirely sure how he felt or what was going on with him, but Hana felt like she was at the center of this.
"Okay, well, since you do owe me," As if that was the only reason he wanted this- "Maybe you should cook." Gavin had no idea how good or possibly bad of a cook Hana was but something about the idea felt so- well really almost too sweet, Gavin couldn't get the image out of his head.
"But tonight sounds good."
Gavin looked offended as he looked down at Hana in her seat, "Me? drama queen? Who are you kidding?"
[ continued. -- @phcking-prick-dbh ]
Hana left her desk and hurried into the closet supply closet she could find near the bullpen. She felt the tears ready to burst out at any moment and she didn't want anyone to see her in that state.
"Is something up?" She scoffed and leaned against the door of the supply room. "I don't know, didn't you have a job to do last night?" Hana tried to keep her voice down, but. the more Gavin avoided to answer, the more she felt like punching a wall. Or his face if ever she saw him anytime soon.

Gavin was trying really hard to not let his own pride get in the way. He leaned against Hana's desk and was honest with her. He really wasn't sure why he didn't plan for Hana just teasing him right back. That bitch.
He had already known that though, how much of a bitch she could be, overall, Gavin really didn't mind all that much. You'd never be able to get it out of him, but her bitchiness was sort of endearing.
"I am so not asking you on a date." Gavin insisted, but the way the corner of his lips tugged up a smile gave him away "I was simply saying that if you were asking me out on a date well... it wouldn't be problem" He tried to explain while sounding as nonchalant as ever. But there was something in the way she touched him when she poked him Gavin tried not to think about it too hard.
"Besides, I would not need to smoke for courage before talking to you. You're just fucking dramatic."

Shit. Shit. Shit. Gavin sighed. Maybe he teased and pushed too far? Normally the two of them were relentless with each other, he wasn't sure what shifted but something clearly had in the last 12 hours. He watched as Hana stormed off. He wouldn't chase after her, no he had some self respect. If Hana wanted to throw a little temper tantrum about it that's fine. He'd give her some space.
So he headed outside, a side door out of the way where he could go for a smoke in peace. He just needed a minute to collect his thoughts of what he even could do to deal with this without making it worse. He knew that he had a tendency to do that.
After about 5 minutes Gavin headed back inside, shoving the pack back in the pocked of his jacket he walked over to Hana's desk, "Dawkins," He started as he leaned against her desk, "Could you please listen to what I'm saying?" Gavin wasn't sure what he was going to say, but now it had to be important.
"I never said I had an issue with it being a date-"

Gavin was honestly taken aback a little. Did Hana just agree to go out to dinner with him? His eyebrows knit together and his arms crossed over his chest as he looked down at her skeptically. This was seemingly far too easy.
Then Hana kept talking. The frown on Gavin's face from his confusion on the world that was Hana Dawkins slowly shifted as the corner of his lip curled up. "Dawkins," He started. Gavin was learning that he liked saying her name. "Did you just invite me to your place and offer to cook dinner for me?" He looked so stupidly smug.
"Like on a date?" As much as part of him just wanted to clarify what she wanted but also another small part of him he wasn't entirely ready to admit existed in words that he maybe kind of wanted it to be that.

Gavin just rolled his eyes at Hana trying to brush him and his concerns for his landlord off. He didn't particularly care for the guy, as someone who took his money every month, but that didn't mean he deserved to face the wrath of Hana Dawkins. A truly terrifying thought for any man.
Well Gavin hadn't planned to pawn off any of his paperwork on her so that was fine- but it almost caught him off caught as she brought up the concept of a dinner. Gavin could feel the way that stupid grin found it's way onto his face as he watched her seem to get a little flustered over her own words.
"Dinner, huh?" Gavin asked and poked at her shoulder. "Do you want to have dinner with me?" He did not feel bold. He didn't feel like of course Hana would say yes, he wasn't the most confident. This was only worth it to watch Hana squirm trying to come up with an excuse.
He couldn't help the thought that occurred to him that Hana looked... kind of cute as she shook her head like it could reset what just happened. "What would you want to do?" Half of that was just to continue to tease her because god it was a good reaction, but the other half of him, just genuinely wanted to know.

There was always something so comfortable about Hana. Now that the previous ordeal was mostly out of the way, and the air cleared, Gavin felt like he could just enjoy the time with her, instead of feeling like he wasn't supposed to or wasn't allowed to.
"So you actually made the poor guy check on my apartment to see if I was there?" He hadn't really believed it before- that Hana had gone that far but well, the more she kept talking about the night before and her panic this morning- Gavin knew she could be just as stubborn as he was if she wanted.
As she agreed, a sweet sort of smiles stretched out on Gavin's face. His face might have been a little warm but he just hoped to god it didn't show. "Name your conditions-"
"Hey! Not my fault. Tina has a different phone than I do so her charger didn't work for mine."

Gavin took the step over as Hana elbowed him and just laughed. It wasn't hard enough to actually hurt at all, just that soft sort of teasing way that made their time together feel easy.
He stepped back in closer, ducking his head down a little to be able to listen to her a little easier. His jaw almost dropped. Gavin nudged her back, "You did not yell at my landlord oh my god- what did he say?" Still with a smile on his face that he couldn't seem to get rid of as he looked at her.
Oh Gavin felt his own heart stutter in his chest now. Hearing the words- even as a denial come out of her mouth- he didn't know what to do with them. "Oh you totally owe me," He insisted as he tried to play it cool himself. "Are those not the same thing?" Another attempt to just put all the attention on Hana.

Hana's smile was sweet- was a thought that Gavin tried to push to the back of his mind. Maybe something he'd consider later where it came from or he'd simply ignore it for the rest of his life. That would be determined later.
"Wait what?" Gavin's hands dropped to his side as his eyes watched Hana walk back to her own desk. He almost chased after her to figure out what the hell she'd down- but the busy bustle around the bullpen made him much more aware of his surroundings.
He calmly walked back towards his own desk, only taking a small side step to lean against hers for another moment. "If I get in shit from my landlord because of you. I think you should need to make it up to me." He didn't quite make eye contact, just a quick glance before he resumed watching all the other commotion around them.
"Not my fault you care."

Gavin really could not stop the stupid little satisfied grin that spread out on his face as Hana stuttered her way through a reply. That was absolutely a win for him. She looked sort of sweet and- oh god why did his chest feel tight like that?
Not the time. The smile on his face softened the more he looked at her though and he stood up properly off the door behind him. "Good." He didn't give himself the chance to really consider the possibility of losing her, that was simply a scenario that he hoped to never have to think too hard about. "I'd appreciate that you did too." He rolled his eyes at her, "Never gonna happen. You know I'm going to make sergeant before you." It felt so easy with her again, now that they'd cleared the air on what he issue was. He stepped away from the door, putting her between himself and it, letting her leave, content with the answer he'd gotten. "I guess you can," He teased but the smile felt easier than it ever had before.

Gavin had absolutely zero words. Which was fairly uncommon for him since the man didn't know how to shut up sometimes. He was pretty good at digging himself into a deeper hole. He knew he was insensitive and quite often hostile which usually drove people away from him or actually wanted him dead.
She was important to him. Gavin knew that he liked having Hana around. He wasn't trying to ruin anything now but well, once his brain finally caught up to what he was hearing? Oh it would be hard to stop his mouth from running.
Instead of doing as she asks, he leaned his entire bodyweight against the door. Gavin knew about his own stubbornness, at this rate Hana really should too. "Would you actually listen to me instead of being so determined that I'm going to laugh at you or some stupid shit?"
"Maybe I'll try a little harder to y'know... not fucking die." Gavin shrugged. He was bad at expressing himself through words. What was he supposed to say? Outright verbalize that she was important to him? No way. That would be stupid. "But you have to do the same." It was the best he could do.

Gavin felt like his head was spinning, and it definitely showed on his face. His brow knit together in his confusion and the wrinkles showed around his eyes as they narrowed in on Hana. "No no-" He shakes his head "This is not about you caring about someone" He emphasized.
"You fucking care about me?" Hana could care about whoever she liked, Gavin really didn't give a fuck. She kept going- about how she liked having him around and honestly Gavin wasn't sure if she was just outright lying to him. But the way that she kept talking so quickly, like she couldn't stop the wave of words that just flowed out of her felt genuine.
Gavin knew that he was an asshole. He had kind of made it his thing after a lot of things went down. He pushed people away so that he never needed to worry about getting too close or getting attached. It was also a lot easier to not give a shit about his own safety when no one else did either.
"No." He answered staying still in front of the door, he pushed back against her trying to get her to just stop. "Dawkins," Gavin said trying to just get her to listen. "I'm not going to fucking make fun of you." There had been a brief moment he'd considered it. Brushing her off by laughing at her maybe she'd stop caring then.
Unsure what to say next, what could he say? Gavin paused. "Why do you care?" He tried to leave out the usual judgment in his voice and just understand her. He knew he cared about her too, despite how he'd never admitted that out loud before, let alone to himself really.

Gavin pulled his hand back down to his side after she pushed him away. After a moment he pulled his arms back across his chest and closed himself off again.
He wasn't sure what he expected from Hana really. But for her to instead say she cared about him? Taken aback was one word for it but honestly it didn't feel like a strong enough word. His jaw fell a little slack as he stared at her for a moment.
"You what?" He blinked. Gavin found himself at a loss for words unlike any other experience. She'd caught him extremely off guard. His arms loosened across his chest and his knees relaxed as he pulled away off the door behind him.
Gavin had to take another second. "Did you just say you care about me?" It felt outlandish. Hana had to be lying to him "I definitely need you to repeat that and quit fucking with me." The idea of that seemed ridiculous, why would she push him away and hide her real reason if she actually cared?

Gavin's eyes narrowed in on her. He stayed still in his position leaned against the door. "That was a bullshit answer and you know it."
Then he started to notice the way that she started to look away from him, how she'd just been hiding her face. Gavin didn't even really think before he just moved, his hand landed easily on Hana's shoulder and squeezed.
"Would you just be fucking honest with me?" It wasn't harsh or aggressive like Gavin might normally have been. Instead, he chose a different tactic, just trying to ease the answer out of her.

Gavin closed the door and leaned back against it. He crossed his arms tightly over his chest, tugging at the leather from his jacket. Gavin took in a deep breath and looked at Hana across from him.
"Dawkins." He kept his voice level as he started to pose the question, "Why do you care if something happens to me?"
There was a burning feeling across his chest, a need to know what he was missing. He paid close attention to Hana's face, trying to watch her body language too. "Answer the question and stop brushing me off if you're so worried about wasting time."

Gavin wasn't stupid, and he certainly didn't miss the way that Hana turned away from him. The only real question was why. Nothing that Gavin could conceive in his head made sense for why Hana would get so overwhelmed or emotional about that. It was just Gavin.
"You thought I..." Gavin tried to finish the sentence in his head. She thought he might have died. Or was hurt at the very least she still seemed worried even after he picked up the phone. There were even more questions now.
Completely self aware he was a pain in the ass, Gavin hopped down off of Hana's desk and instead of walking away and discussing this later, he grabbed Hana by the wrist, "Come on," His voice had softened slightly in a way it normally wouldn't as he started to pull her with him towards the supply closet. He hoped for some privacy that maybe he could get some genuine answers from her.

Gavin did not care for Hana trying to brush him off. Really the more nonchalant she tried to act about her previous behavior the more concerned he got. She was acting way too weird for him to just drop it.
He took a sip of his coffee and stayed comfortably seated in Hana's way. "I don't care." He tried to say. "You were just acting weird as fuck. Still are."
"Now. Explain to me why you needed to make sure I was okay." That he hadn't been able to logic together. She'd never asked or just checked in like that before for no reason. "I'm not leaving until you tell me."

Gavin listened to the sound of the click as he was hung up on. It took him a moment to even process what the fuck had just happened. Whatever it was, he was extremely suspicious of Hana now.
He started the ignition and put the car in gear. Gavin drove himself over to the precinct with one goal in mind. It was driving him crazy trying to figure out what the hell was going on. He walked fast, keeping a fast pace as he entered the building focused on one place.
"What the fuck were you talking about earlier?" Gavin set himself to sit on the edge of Hana's desk. He leaned back and purposefully made himself an obstacle so she couldn't clear look at her own computer or papers. "My turn for answers."
