No anime review today. I have a major headache and I am beyond tired. My bf has also been extremely annoying and snarky to me today so I’m just doing myself the favor of going to sleep.

Chimimo - 2022
My boyfriend, his friend and I saw this show being advertised on Plex and on a whim decided to watch the first episode. They weren’t so amused but I was immediately hooked.
The story revolves around Jigoku-san (Mr. Hell) and his batch of adorable mochiesque demon spirits called the Chimimoryo, or Chimimo for short. They come to the human realm to turn it into a hellscape but are thwarted when they meet the three Onigami sisters. The Hell-natives end up boarding in the house with the sisters only to fail constantly at causing any sort of hellish chaos.
Mutusmi, Hazuki and Mei seem like three ordinary sisters but each has their own vices that cause Jigoku-san to question his own level of evilness. Mutsumi has a secret temper with destructive outbursts, Hazuki is a chronic, money-hungry drunk and Mei is a chore-shirking social media nut. These traits cause Jigoku a lot of trouble and he ends up being a mediator more than a trouble maker.
However, Jigoku’s boss constantly threatens him with fates unimaginable if he doesn’t complete certain levels of overtake within a specific time frame . Constantly, Jigoku manages to buy himself time whether it be through lies or deceit as he bumbles to get his goal achieved with the help of his Chimimo companions.
This anime takes on the episodic format much like American cartoons. It is split into two segments per episode, maintaining the story plot described while each part is a different obstacle. The art style is very simplistic but it does have a soft, sort of pastel appeal to it that I can see attracting a very specific type of audience. I couldn’t imagine a lot of people outside a niche group enjoying the visuals of this anime but please prove me wrong though.
Overall, it’s a mindless and entertaining watch that might garner a chuckle or two. My rating for this show:
7/10 - the sisters sometimes grate my nerves a bit and I wish the Chimimo were a little more the center focus sometimes.

Warau Salesman (Laughing Salesman) 1989
I learned about this anime from a Kenny Lauderdale YouTube video and it sparked a curiosity inside of me as to how good this actually was. Clocking in at 10 minutes per episode, Warau Salesman had grabbed me and I was ready to go down that rabbit hole with him.
The show plays out in episodic form, lacking no continuous story aside from the salesman himself (Moguro Fukuzou) using his strange powers to mess with everyday Japanese folks. He chooses people who are lacking something in their lives or have some major character flaw and falsely advertises a way to make their lives better. The victim will always choose to accept the salesman’s product and much follow whatever rule Moguro gives them less they be in for misfortune. Sound simple enough, right?
While for a little the victims lives DO get exponentially better, there is always some driving force implemented by Moguro that causes them to break the one rule given to them. They end up ruining their lives and Moguro ends up laughing at their expense.
That’s just it though: Moguro’s entire reason for doing this is SOLELY to get a laugh out of the victim’s misfortune; Schadenfreude if you will. There’s been a lot of questioning as to whether or not one can overcome the salesman’s powers and I have to agree with Kenny when he said “no, you can’t”. He is magic. You can’t beat Moguro magic.
This series is projected towards an adult audience as it displays older people and their lives and the struggles of adulthood so I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone under the age of 23 (or if you’re a college graduate and have SOME implications of the working world). It wouldn’t make sense to anyone younger than that though it’s not to say you COULDN’T watch and enjoy it.
This has become a personal favorite of the year so far for me so my personal rating is going to be:
8/10 - I would give it a higher rating but the recycling of certain careers does tend to get a little redundant.

Call of the Night - 2022
Where do I even begin with this one? My boyfriend started to read the manga prior to its anime debut and he told me it was really good and definitely worth checking out in anime form. I have no idea where he got any raving opinions on this but I could not disagree more.
While I can understand the appeal of anime that have a slow paced story and a chill vibe, this anime pushes it a bit much for my personal tastes. The main characters are rather boring and don’t actually DO anything worthwhile for this show to have such praise as it does. Additional characters are also plain and rather generic as well, making the cast very much akin to animated wallpaper. I also rather dislike the art style with the drooping faces and the protruding ears as it makes me feel like everyone is either falling asleep or high as all hell constantly.
I’m also not one for excessively lame male protagonists however, typically their costars help boost the appeal throughout the show. Nazuna, the more “interesting” of the two, does none of this for our protagonist Ko. The entire relationship they have is more based on curiosity and mutual benefit than that of a true friendship or romance. Hell, Ko doesn’t even understand romance. Nazuna just continuously teases Ko and offers little in return aside from the vague promise of turning him into a vampire at some point and hanging out with him at night. I find no other real positives for her character. Ko does the same for Nazuna - offering a bland personality and little to no conversation despite having some apparently tasty blood.
I’ve seen five episodes so far of this (I’m watching it with my boyfriend as he’s available to) and I cannot find myself liking it anytime soon. Once again, I can see the appeal it might bring to some viewers but I PERSONALLY don’t think it’s anything worth while. There’s far better vampire anime/manga out there to see.
Rating: 5/10. Mediocre at best.

I figured I would follow through and do some anime reviews of anime I have watched recently or am currently watching. I’ve chosen to start with the 2016 anime: GAKUEN HANDSOME.
The story is simplistic; a new student enrolls in an all boys school only to find himself friends (and more than) with a few of the school’s most handsome bishounen ikemen.
The art style of this anime can be (and has been) marked as crude, amateur, an eyesore and completely ugly to look at. However, as it is a gag anime, it was left with room for the creators to do what they wanted without risking the important elements of story telling. If you’re not into anime that looks unprofessional and quite frankly MS paint inspired, this will be your stopping point immediately despite what this anime does offer.
The episodes are short, roughly three and a half minutes each so watching this in one sitting is entirely doable and highly recommended. There is really no point to watch some and go back as you’ll find yourself uninterested and leaving it on the back burner of your ever growing anime list. It does provide a better story system than a lot of other anime in the 3-5 minute genre but it’s not GREAT either. It’s simply mindless entertainment for you and your friends to laugh at and mark off your anime bucket list.
I finished this tonight (August 25, 2022) and my overall score for it and personal opinion of it is: 6.5/10. I would recommend it to people who are hardcore anime fans but aren’t afraid to explore things outside of their preferred genres and want to get a decent laugh out of something meant to make you laugh.

I’m back from my trip to San Diego feeling a bit better. The vibe I got from being there was unique and only matched by my experience living in NYC. I would choose NYC any day if given a choice but San Diego was a close second.
I also have been thinking of posting some anime reviews of shows I’ve been watching or have watched here just to keep some things lively. I’ll probably use my actual computer for that as it might be text heavy. Typing a lot on a cell phone can be a bit arduous versus a physical keyboard and buttons.
Some I’m planning on reviewing are:
- Call of the Night
- Warau Salesman
- Chimimo
- Tokyo Mew Mew New
- Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha
I’ll more than likely start it tomorrow when I am not suffering from slight jet lag and lack of sleep.

Today I was told I should consider “running out into traffic” due to me being completely useless and having no point.
By my own boyfriend.
I can’t help but think there’s a lot of truth to that. Life never really did suit me much anyway.
He’s not entirely wrong. I can’t even do simple life things anymore at this point. I feel useless to myself so how could I believe I could be useful to someone else?

I suppose I will use this as a safe space to talk openly about my life and how I am feeling. I don’t expect anyone to read, like, reblog, or comment on this in the time I’ll be here. That’s not why I’m doing this. This is for me. It can also be for anyone else it might help.
I’m an adult (I’ll leave my age ambiguous but I’m a lot older than I look) who’s been struggling with a lot the last decade or so of my life in many ways. Whether it be mental, physical, emotional or otherwise - it’s a lot. I won’t bore you with all of that right now but much rather let it out gradually as I post here.
What you may know for now is that I am a panromantic/asexual AFAB (I also identify as female so I suppose that would make me cisgender). I have a pet snake named Azazel whom I mostly refer to as Zaze (ball python) and my birthday is August 16 making me a Leo.
I am very interested in the art and works of Dr. Seuss, Jim Henson, Ralph Bakshi, Vaugh Bode, Don Bluth,Jhonen Vasquez, Roy Lichtenstein, Francisco Goya, Michaelangelo Carravaggio and other such similar artists.
I am a certified cartoonist/comic artist though I much prefer editing rather than creating comics. I have a BFA in cartooning from SVA in NYC that I received in 2018. I like to draw and create things as well as baking/cooking, playing Animal Crossing (and a few other mostly mobile games), doing crossword puzzles, watching anime, and drinking coffee. I am also partially bilingual being able to speak English fluently and I have a good proficiency in German. I’m not particularly all that interesting but I would like to think I’m not a total bore.
The reason I’m making this blog is because I am excessively lost and incredibly unsatisfied with life as a whole. My current living situation, the people (and lack of people) in my life, financial issues and other such life struggles consume my thoughts all too often and I have no real outlet aside from my weekly 50 minute therapy sessions every Wednesday. I don’t think this will solve much of anything but I’d rather get my thoughts out there rather than NOT say anything. I won’t go on much more as to give this time to process and will continue to update as often as I can/need to.
